I'm reviving this old thread to introduce some new info.
The need to change the whole knuckle didn't sit well with me- I thought there had to be a simpler way, like simply changing out the bearings. Turns out I was half right: I took new front and rear bearing assemblies from a '13 WRX and a '15 WRX, and sat them side by side. The REAR bearing assemblies appear completely interchangeable, so no knuckle required for the rear. The FRONT bearings are not interchangeable, the mounting bolt pattern is different. I verified that the '15+ WRX uses the same bearing as all '08-'14 STi's, and even the '15+ Legacy and Outback. In other words, there doesn't seem to be any 5x114 FRONT hub that directly mounts into a 5x100 equipped knuckle. I would still like to compare the front knuckles from the '13 and '15+ WRX- will the '15 knuckle fit my stock '13 struts, unlike the '08-'14 STi knuckles? Does anyone happen to have an answer to that?

I have a 2012 WRX sedan and I bought a full set of knuckles with hub, rotor, caliper from a 2015 STi. According to parts.subaru.com, the front knuckle is the same from the 2008+ STi's (with 4 pot Brembos) as well as 2015+ WRX's. However it also lists the the 2011-2014 WRX's which can't be true. I can confirm the STi front knuckle is too wide to fit in the WRX strut. Looking at aftermarket coilovers, websites show their products will fit on 2015+ WRX and 2015+ STi. So this should mean that the 2015+ WRX knuckle is too wide for the 2011-2014 WRX strut mount. |

Great write up everyone. Sorry to bump this. Especially if this has been answered several times in other threads.
Other than wheel and suspension fitment options, why would I want to switch to 5x114.3 ? Are the 5x100s easy to break under certain HP? Thanks! |

Depending on what year 5x100, the 5x114 had better bearings that bolted in instead of press fit. You are also spreading the load over a larger area making it stronger. I had also read something a while ago about kick back on big brake kits being worse on 5x100, but I haven't been able to find that thread in a while, so I can't quote anything specific. |

I'm sure up to a certain power level they are fine. I just want to make sure I'm always operating in my limits haha |

Working on this swap rn. As gsrcrxsi said in this thread in 2015, the front STi hub fits on the WRX front axles but are too short to get the axle nut on (properly). The rears fit fine.
My parts list so far: 2012 WRX sedan 2015 STi front and rear struts 2015 STi front knuckles (I swapped rear as well but not required) 2015 STi front and rear hubs (I swapped ebrake/dust shield too and use the original WRX ebrake cable, but not required if you trim the WRX rear dust shield) 2015 STi front and rear brembos Stoptech stainless steel brake lines for STi, front and rear DBA 4000 front and rear rotors 2012 STi front axles - have not actually tried to install yet |

Question about the drive shafts,
I have a 2013 WRX hatch and I want to swap the STI suspension from a parts sedan into it, but keep the five speed trans. Will the STI drive shafts wear down the bearings in the five speed trans? Has anybody discovered the long term effects of using these together?

STi DS is shorter than the WRX because the 6 speed trans is longer |

Sorry, meant axles not the drive shaft. I was told the STi axles in the 5 speed transmission would leak fluids and wear out the bearings if they were used. Does anybody know if this is true?

As far as I can tell from comparing parts, the STi hubs bolt into the rear without issue. My WRX is my daily and wont ever produce more than Cobb stage 2 power so I went what I feel is a pretty economical way of doing this. Call me crazy but I purchased EVERYTHING from Rock Auto including the Brembos! I will post the results for the rears in a couple days. |

Before attempting to assemble anything, I compared the axles side by side and the part that goes into the transmission housing was nearly identical. The only visible difference was the part of the inner stub that locks into the transmission was about a quarter inch longer. Upon closer inspection I saw that the extra length was at the very end past where the shaft locks in. Assuming that quarter inch of extra length doesn't cause interference inside, I can't imagine how it could make any difference in terms of wear at the outside. I actually have one of the STI axles still out on my bench so I will grab some pictures and measurements tomorrow when I work on the car again. Last edited by dexterous; 07-30-2022 at 10:36 AM. |

I know I'm bringing this thread back but I just wanted to confirm that the 08+ sti front axles are good for the 08+ wrx. I have an 08 narrow body that I installed sti axles in with zero issues. I am doing the complete widebody swap into my 08 including the quarterpanels but my axles needed to be replaced before I was ready and I used the sti axles in order to not waste money and it works flawlessly even though they are longer by 1/4" or 1/8"

I have about the same miles as you so far. I'm going to be putting the sti lower control arms on the front pretty soon and the 11+ wrx rear knuckle... so it'll have the same track width as the wide body. I would recommend everyone to just use sti axles front and rear on all wrx from 08-14 if you have to replace them. When doing the 6mt swap you should be able to use the stock axle from 08-14 wrx as well unless the r180 has a different spline count.
