Default '98 impreza engine swap

I just purchased a 98 impreza coupe with a 2.2l and manual trans. It has 230000 miles on it so I'm wondering what my options are for an engine swap. This is my first subaru so I'm new to all this.

I own 2 GF8s
A 97 auto trans 2.2l
A 98 MT 2.2l.

On the 98 trans I was thinking of going for the 99 version 5 or 6 EJ207. It's a pricey engine but according to research it's the most reliable engine for subaru. Even used in the rally cars. Just a suggestion. Try looking that up

Rebuild the 2.2L. Those are the most reliable engines Subaru made. Granted you have the interference ej22 (as do I) but she's still a beauty. If you really want to swap though look for a phase 1 (96 or earlier ej22). That's what I'll be doing down the road. I own a 97 Impreza Coupe. Personally I think the 22b was the best Impreza ever...ej22 ^_^

What difficulties can you run into while swapping these engines?
