Hows the PRI delta handguard? Been looking for the older round ones but these have been growing on me

Definitely light, which is nice with the can on the end. The top rail helps a ton with getting everything lined up nice so I would suggest that if you're considering it. Only complaint is the backing threads to screw the pic rails in aren't permanently mounted to the handguard so relocating the rails after mounting the handguard can be tricky. I do like how snugly the back of the top rail fits against the MBUS Pros. The barrel nut is also machined well and easy to align the gas port near the target torque.

First problem is that it didn't want to power up out of the box, so I needed to pull and reinstall the battery. Once running I noted the disappointing amount of optical parallax this thing has; my other two Holosuns are rock solid but the dot moves slightly on this one when I move my head to either side, so that's lame. And then using it for the first time at the range yesterday, it turned itself off twice over the course of about 150 rounds. So yeah, not happy.
Apparently a new battery has resolved the turning-off issue but we'll see with some actual range time. The shake-awake feature has worked any time I spot-checked it in the last two weeks. Yes, that should have been the first thing I did but since the battery life is touted as lasting for years I figured out of the box it would at least be 'good'. Nope. Meter says it was low on volts.

Success!

So, I hadn't heard back from Savage yet about the chamber burr and then discovered they close their whole operation from July 3-12, which is actually pretty awesome. I think it's like a big paid vacation for them under the guise of a "factory shutdown". Unfortunately, I couldn't even insert a snap cap into the Mark II more than about half way. I did a super cleaning on the chamber and tried it at the range Sunday with 3 different loads. It had gotten so bad (I think I made it worse with the cleaning lol) that even trying to load a round was scarring the bullet. Yikes. I figured it wasn't going to work well anyway so brought other stuff. ~100 rounds through the HD shotgun, oof, got a bruise to show for it, but a lot of practice off and on through the day going from low ready to on target at 20-40 feet.

Also, the swap meet was basically just like a car swap meet. A bunch of misc parts (duh). I'm sure I could have found some great deals on optics if I knew what I was looking at, but that's something I'd still rather buy new for the peace of mind. Tons of stocks and vises, empty ammo cans and cases, tripods, and then all of the really rare/weird stuff. There are apparently private sales at that meet, but I didn't see any functioning firearms.

Anyway, the gunsmithing!

Before:

I'd done some research into clearing 22 burrs and ran across some old info about gunsmithing tools that nobody makes anymore. Sounded like some folks had good luck with a punch tool also, but I couldn't remove the barrel. However, I found this and ordered it:

Tandemkross "ChamberMade" Chamber Ironing Swage Gunsmith Tool for .22lr, .22long, .22short

Pretty cool how it's designed to work from either down the barrel with a cleaning rod, or with a 1/4" socket. Not as great as the old tools that are basically the same swage but with an attached rod and hard to find.

The socket I had couldn't get centered while in the chamber, but I could fit a little box wrench! A ratcheting wrench would have been ideal, but didn't have one that small. I connected the barrel side to a cleaning tool to keep the swage in the right spot, and then used another cleaning tool coming from the bolt side to put pressure on it. With the rod tool I'm sure you could get some wicked pressure on it and really clean some pipe.

A pretty slow process at only about 15deg a turn, but definitely worked.

It's not perfect, but plenty good enough that the practice ammo goes right in easy and the rifle functions properly. Ran some snap caps through from a magazine and it loads and ejects. Do you think it's ok to store the rifle with a practice round loaded, to avoid accidental dry fire? I'm worried it'll seize or something though. I guess I could just try it out and check it occasionally.

The hardest part was just committing to potentially fubar'ing the rifle and not getting any warranty help at all. I'd solved that by buying a CZ 457 MTR though...sooo, I had some courage. lol

.....and bought a PTR 109 (well the 406 in CA, fin grip bleh) - local shop, good deal. HK91 is my dream gun from Counter-Strike. Next up: DE, P90, and MP5. Sig P228 up there also.

...and bought an M&P 15-22 Sport. I'd already grabbed an Angel Blue Walther P22 for my daughter, who's now decided she wants to do bow and arrow instead. One of the local ranges has a 22 only section with reactive plates at 25 and 50 yards. I've seen it a few times, looks like a blast. It's like a family thing. Bring in a cooler for sodas and sandwiches, a kid or two, a thousand rounds and make a day of it.

I may have a problem.

EDIT - pretty sure that smithing tool rod thing I'm wrong about. The swage is the tool, the rod is custom? I dunno, but I'm looking for one.

I just bought Edge. I couldn’t handle the UPS Mail Innovations garbage shipping tier they were charging $5 for, unfortunately I still paid $15-20 in shipping recently...didn’t expect the shipping to be so ****ty.

Any opinions on the Sig Sauer Romeo5 Red DOT sight? Looking in getting one for the AR15 Do not need anything fancy, just target practice at the range.

they used to be great, then they grew and moved locations a few years ago, and its been a poop show ever since. i only use them when they are the only one's who have what i want at this point. besides the slow shipping in house, and adding to it the super slow mail innovations, even with ffl pricing they are more expensive than just about everybody else on almost everything they sell. its sad to see what were good companies circle down the drain.

They’re still better than Midway, with far better customer service that you can still talk to and better customer-friendly policies like their return policy. Prices, especially recently, are high for sure. My consideration for using them is that I hate Midway, Brownells doesn’t charge tax for me (yet), and they allow backorders on a fair amount of things. They didn’t really gouge after Sandy Hook or other times to my recollection either.

**** Midway.

Do you need to adjust the sight after a certain amount of rounds, or does it hold pretty well

I might just get it and try it out.

What's the easiest/laziest way to clean a suppressor? I've got a Ti baffle stack that's easily removable, but I don't want to scrub the bastard after every trip

I just use H#9 and a soft bore brush but make sure whatever solvent you use is compatible with the finish.

I have heard of smearing nickel anti-seize on the brake or in the baffle chamber can REALLY help. Haven’t tried it myself yet, but picked up a $70 Surefire scraper for my supremely tight tolerance aka always carbon locking SOCOM mounts.

This too, but I believe the ultrasonic may be capable of damaging the finish? Have a small ultrasonic, but haven’t tried the can in it.

This was what I did last time. Forget which solvent or if it was #9, but the Surefire’s even come with a scrubby brush.

I'm probably going to grab an ultrasonic and some CLR/Purple power/Whatever. The baffles are Ti, and I'll clean the cap/tube by hand. I just don't want to scrub the baffles. They're annoying.

I use m-pro7 in an ultrasonic cleaner and it's magical. never used it on a can but it works really well on just about everything.

Anybody with a Springfield Armory Saint AR pistol or a Sig Sauer M400 tread pistol. Any inputs? Going to the range this weekend to try them out before I buy. Looking to get it for 150-200yrd range target practice.

Any other options in the $1000 range?

I have the full size Saint Edge and it's butter - the trigger and muzzle break on it are really fantastic - I'd imagine the pistol/SBR is pretty much the same Would have picked up the pistol but my club banned non-pistol caliber on the short range so seemed kinda pointless for me

You can find BCM uppers in the $600-800 range and build a pistol lower.

There’s some Mk2 uppers in stock, but you missed the 11.5”: https://bravocompanyusa.com/ar15-upper-receiver-groups/bcm-mk2-upper-receiver-groups/
