Angry OK, how the heck do you get rid of athlete's foot!!!

I can find no cure!!! Unfortunatly, I work at a job that requires dress shoes and walking around so I can't just take them off all day or wear flip-flops (slippers to you locals). I have tried tanactin spray, some athlete's foot cream, and even some anti-yeast infection spray (my wife accidently bought it for me instead of tinactin but I tried it anyway.. hehe.) and nothing has worked. what has worked for everyone else?? Thanks

Eric

But seriously, you should go see a doctor for a cure, because if it gets bad enough, you won't be able to cure it.
I have had it for almost 2 years. I went to a doctor but they said that the athletes foot pills aren;t covered under insurance and they were expensive. Maybe I will try with my new insurance plan.

....Blowtorch....???

J/K...

See a DR....I had to...There are several creams/sprays/ointments that have come to the 'Over the counter' market since.
I use a 50/50 mix of bleach and water, in a 'trigger' spray bottle on the shower floor after every shower, and an 'OTC' aerosol on the feet......Works for me.

Good luck

I used Tinactin or the generic equivalent (1% Tolnaftate)

Thing is you HAVE to use it EVERYDAY ... TWICE ... for like TWO WEEKS. If you don't it won't work, it'll come back. Keep spraying them for a few days even if you don't see the fungus anymore, just to be sure.

You just gotta set aside a time in the morning and evening where you wash and dry your feet then spray them.

Yeah, I'd like to spray some of that stuff in Madden's face. Somebody make him stop!

Back to the topic... I used the generic 1% tolnaftate cream for a couple weeks straight and it worked for me. If you have one of those anti-slip mats in your shower I would suggest throwing it away and either not get a new one or replace them very often. That material is a breeding ground for little nasties since it hold in the water long after it has drained away.

The active fungus causing the infection is tinea pedis, and sometimes it will have to be treated with oral medication like itraconazole or ketoconazole for several months continuously before it can be eradicated.

Piss in the shower. no shizzit. It'll kill the stuf off if you're in a public shower and help prevent from getting it. and if you have it, it helps get rid of it.

Just let it go all over your feet.

I knew this would bring back the pissing thread...there was a thread on here a while back about pissing in the shower.
Yeah, for some reason, it does help get rid of AF (athlete's foot...not Abercrombie) if you piss on your feet. I had a discussion with my doctor about this and he thought it changed the pH of your feet...which the fungus doesn't like.

Good luck!

that was my thread. IGC ownZ body fluid threads.

I think pee has ammonia in it. or it degrades into ammonia shortly after contact with air.

Should you do this even if you have a severe burning sensation when you urinate?

Hey, i know the feeling of having to wear dress shoes for 10-16 hours in a day. WHat you really need to do first is control the moisture in your shoes cuz if your feet are in the equivalent of a rainforest all day, no matter how much tinactin you use, it'll come back. Go to your pharmacy and pick up some gold bond medicated powder or Dr. Scholls foot powder. The latter has anti-fungal properties plus it sucks up moisture in your shoes making it a much less friendly environment. And of course try to alternate the days you wear the same pair of shoes...

I think the stuff I used was Micatin....(maybe Tinactin) but, after about 3 days, it was gone. I guess it doesn't work for everyone. I also started wearing shoes in the shower that I shared with my neighbor in the dorms. I left him a coupon and a nasty note.

I don't know if it helped at all, but it felt nicer, whenever I didn't need to wear shoes/socks, I went barefoot. It seemed to me that airflow over my feet might help.

Try tea tree oil.

"We've heard lots of people talking about tea tree oil these days. So when a podiatrist we know told us recently that he sells it in his office as a natural cure for athlete's foot and black toenails, we decided to look into its healing benefits. A natural antiseptic, tea tree oil can be used to treat several problems, including cuts, acne and canker sores. Best of all for runners, it kills foot fungus, says herbal expert William J. Keller, Ph.D., chair of the department of pharmaceutical sciences at Samford University School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Ala.
If you're thinking of buying a vial of it the next time you're at a health-food or vitamin store, follow these pointers:
* Some products combine the oil with drying agents, such as baking soda, for an extra punch against athlete's foot. To figure out if a diluted tea tree product contains enough of the pure oil, sniff it. If you can't smell the strong medicinal odor, don't buy it. Also, read the list of active ingredients. A good product contains 5 to 7 percent of the active ingredient cineole and 30 percent or more of terpinen-4-ol.
* If your oil is full strength, it may overly dry your skin. Start applying it straight from the vial. But if your skin starts flaking off, dilute by mixing one part tea tree oil with five to 10 parts vegetable or olive oil, says Keller.
* Apply the oil three times a day. Continue applying it for a week after athlete's foot disappears.
* Some of you may be allergic to tea tree oil, so only dab a little bit on a small patch of skin the first time you use it."

I second the pee recommendation - you'd probably have to
piss on them toes like 2 times a day, though.

Otherwise, Tinactin or some similar foot powder spray should
work. The trick is to use it every day for a while - otherwise
it just comes back.

Some people recommend Vicks vapor rub to clear up toe fungus -
you could always try that, if you're adventurous (or just like
the smell of it ).

I've fought with AF for quite a while and it seems to be the best stuff out there. Noticable difference in a couple days...use it for like a week and it's gone. Just remember to keep taking care of your feet or it will come back.

Good luck!

Also, see if your insurance covers some other kind of fungal infection, like ringworm. It's basically the same fungus, but appears on other parts of the body.

Buy new shoes, too! And wash your socks in bleach and hot hot water. Just letting shoes air out and normal cold/warm washes with detergent will NOT kill the little bastard shrooms.

~Kate - Who rescued a kitten and it repaid her by giving her ringworm. Tinactin burns!

I second the tea tree oil (pure), But also use Gold bond on your feet and in your shoes. Also soak your feet at night in a mild bleach/water solution.

Don't forget to piss on your feet in the shower.
