By that logic, since rally cars run on tarmac and not just off road, your whole point about needing to change tires and wheels to qualify as a "rally" car is moot. And Nascar has more to do with it's cigarette and detergent sponsorship then with any stock car. So perhaps you should try again.

Heck what more can one ask for?!

Geez, I gotta get one of these things!

Janq,

One correction, the stock clutch on the STi have 900lb "MORE" clamping force then the regular WRX.

So you know about all these and you are still thinking about the G35C? I barely remember what a G35C looks like anymore. If you want status, go buy a used S430 Mercedes, they only cost $12K and looks like you just spend $100K

Currently, the STi Owns everything until the Nissan GTR comes out, but that will be for double the price..

snoogans..........you sure the EVO don't come with cruise control? I need to go look that up now. Cruise control is important to me.

The Neon has about as much to do with NASCAR as it does with NASA.

STiLL,

Maybe the following analogies will help sort things out;

* STi = Bruce Jenner = Decathalete (Best all-around athlete) and no slouch in any specific event;
* EVO = Donovan Bailey = 100M = "World's Fastest Man" around a track but insiders are concernd about 'fragility';
* SRT-4 = Ben Johnson = 400M (aka '440' or 'Quarter') = Quick, but required a boost.

Any one of the above are/were contenders but everyone knows only one is on a Wheaties box.

try this on for size

STi = perfect for the Subaru Loyalists, anyone needing/wanting a 300hp/300tq AWD street car, an "STi" to drive into their garage to brag about, who just want a car that kicks ass, or anyone who can just afford it!

EVO= perfect for the Mitsubishi Loyalists, anyone needing/wanting a 271hp/273tq AWD street car, a "Lancer EVOLUTION" to pull into their garage and brag about, a car that ALSO kicks ass, or anyone who can AFFORT it!

SRT = "baller on a budget" type car, anyone who wants one of the best performance for the dollar ratios out right now, Dodge loyalists, anyone wanting/needing a 215+ TURBO FWD street car, anyone who could care less about mufflers, and frankly, who do not MIND having a kick ass NEON to brag about!

I never said anything about wanting status...where/when did I mention "status"? !?

I like the G35 C for its design as its "beautiful", and for the same MSRP money as an STi you get leather and a Bose radio with 6 disc CD and Brembo's, 18" rims (sexy!), LSD, the Z's Track Suspension...plus my wife loves it (and hates the look of the STi).
Also the G is no slouch by any measure although its not as performance extreme as the STi.

Friend, I have zero concerns about status. Otherwise I wouldn't be entertaining a Subaru much less been driving Subies for the past 14 years. Status...please. <lol> If status were my concern I'd be pushing a '04 Rangie or an H2 or a G500. Thats status in my town.

The GTR will be for all intents and purposes in its own galaxy as compared to the STi. There is no comparison. Now Porsche, Viper, BMW (M6), Ferrari, Lambo, Aston and possibly Vette (C6) folks will have something to look forward to.

Then there is the Ford 'GT 500'...!!!

Run a stock STi on a rally course at 10/10ths minus roll cage, wheels, and tires, and let me know how that goes.

there's a lot of people out there that would put there money on the EVO... same stuff
Snoogans has a point. I'll elaborate:
1. Brembo brakes and 'Sport' ABS: What really counts is how well it brakes...if it had no ABS and 5" drums and stopped in less than 100 feet, I don't care (I am exaggerating, of course) if you have brembo or 'sport' whatever, that car can STOP. And the EVO has been proven to have mighty stopping power.
2. Porche designed 6spd manual: See #1 supplement tranny performance in place of brake performance. The EVO has also been proven to have a pretty good tranny.
3. Differentials: Once again, see #1. The EVO doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the STi has, but it still outperforms (or at least matches) the STi in the twisties, which kind of makes the diffs moot, don't ya think? Power is still put to the ground where it is needed.
4. Shaved rear glass: so what? Sure it saves some weight, but it is 'necessary' to keep the weight down.
5. Clutch: you got me there...can't really say anything about this unless I have hard numbers to compare between EVO and STi.
6. Forged internals, AWD: EVO has AWD, but I wouldn't know about the forged internals
7. BBS Wheels, Defi Gauges: EVO has some nice wheels, too, and read #1 for the Defi gauges also it is subjective (although most would say the STi guages beat the EVO's hands down).

Don't get me wrong, I love the STi, but snoogans' point is well made. The great aftermarket stuff is all fine and dandy, but there will be many who say that everything comes together better in the EVO. BTW, I am definitely getting the STi. Don't ask me why, because it really just comes down to which one I like better subjectively, which is as it should be.
