Oil pressure question
So i installed an oil pressure sensor and gauge on my 08 sti.. The oil pressure at idle is reading 8psi.. It does come up to around 50-60psi with rpms.. The sensor and sending unit are in the intake valley back towards the left center of the engine... This number seems low to me... What about you all? What should it read and does rhe sensor location make a difference on what the reading will be?
Thanks Rick

Can you post a pic of exactly where you put the sensor?
That pressure is way too low. On my 207, Oil Pressure is/was about - Cold Start - 95 PSI - Hot Idle - 35 PSI - Hot Running - 75 PSI There are two (2) location points on the top of then engine where you can install a sensor. Sounds like you have one of them. Could just be a problem with your install or the wrong sensor for the gauge you are using. What gauge and what sensor? |

The gauge came with the sensor and sending unit.. I installed a boost gauge also from the same company.

i certainly hope so.
As for your gauge issue, I'd start by re-checking your install, making sure all the wires have proper contacts, no bare wiring, etc. I don't remember the ProSport gauges as being high quality, hence people in the past have had issues. If you confirm your install is correct per the directions, then maybe you have a bad sensor / gauge / both. Ring up ProSport after you confirm your install was correct. |

Is there a way to double check the pressure in another location via another method to confirm what it actually is? I dont wanna be driving it with pressure like that if it's actually low.

I take it this is not originally your car? How many miles? How was it treated by the previous owner? Any idea? Is the motor stock or modded? |

Other questions:
Do you know if the oil pick-up has ever been changed? One big issue, which can result in low oil pressure, is a cracked OEM oil pick-up tube. If it breaks or cracks severely, low to no oil pressure = engine and owner extremely sad. I changed mine out at 100K on my 205 and it was cracking. Installed a KillerB pick-up and never looked back and moved them to my 207. I'm not saying that is what it is, but it is a known problem. |

Im inclined to think that i have that issue.. Unlikely that a brand new setup in a location known to give accurate pressures would read low.. Would like to test with another method to confirm before forking out the dough on a new pickup since ill likely get their oil pan too haha...

If it's at the front location, then that pressure is low. At the rear it may be normal. Some follow-up questions are what oil, and how long has I been in there? Thank you! If you have any questions once you get your hands on it, let me know! |
