I would be surprised, but pleasantly so, if the slightly improved handling can get it closer to STI lap times considering everything I mentioned. And you're correct about the performance pack, the higher temp pads (and Brembos calipers, I guess lol) were exactly what the VA needed and it showed across multiple situations and tests - hopefully the '22 has better pads than the last gen. And I mentioned the 86 because I stumbled on that info while looking at these times and it's amusing that it's considered slow by most while it seems to now be keeping up with the WRX in the 0-60 and only slightly behind in the 1/4 mile. It's a lot closer than I expected anyway.

The new engine has more total power under the curve, but most of that is on the low end and that's less important on the track. If your pushing the car hard on a track your spending your entire time in the upper RPM range, where the new engine doesn't seem to hold much improvement over the old 2.0.
I'd be thrilled for new WRX owners that care about tracking if it was faster than a VA STI, but I'd be shocked unless the new rubber is a huge upgrade over the old Dunlop's. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk |

So, yeah, I don't know, we'll have to wait and see what happens with lap times. |

Interesting to see if the VA with that gearset would work better.

Guess it would depend on the track? Raced it around the Utah Motorsports Complex and 3rd was the highest gear we got. Dropped to second a couple times; but, I can't say 6100 was an issue. Then I ask what's the deal about that? Spent years reading complaints here that the 2.0 would drop off before 6000 anyway. And what people have discussed and shown on graphs, it seems to do something similar. It's just much better on the way up? |

The higher redline of the FA20 and the 4.44 gearing should make for a better all around package whether on track or street. Mileage will suffer.

Obviously there is a bit more to it but looking at the turbo sizes they should have pushed the fuel cut to 6,500 RPM. FA20DIT turbo checked out @ around 6K but you can still run a ton of timing with good quality gas and make good power past 6.5K. I am sure we will see a spicier tune down the line like VW did for the 2019 cars when they cranked the boost up top. This engine has a ton of room left on the table.

So anyone know if Staight6 ordered a 2022 WRX? Or is it a wait and see thing, and order a refreshed 2024 WRX?

He can have the autotragic in white at the dealer 1 mile from me. I did not think it could look worse in person until I seen that color combo. white is by far the worst color with all that gray/black plastic trash everywhere. |

Grey metallic likely the number one seller as it hides all the imperfections very well.

Not sure if they were ordered or just out of our allocation; but, we sold a WRB first, then a MG2, then a CBS. Then we have 2 unspoken for ISMs inbound, then an ordered SOP, and ordered CBS. The CBS is an employee purchase and SPT.

Saw a 2022 in WRB pass in front of my apartment today. It's almost a head-turner, and not in any good sense. Like, it almost looks like something you've seen before (VA WRX, Crosstrek and/or Honda Civic), but then you look harder and realize it's unlike anything else you've ever seen and you wish it was any of those other vehicles instead.
