BTW, what does Tozawa have? Edkwon? I was guessing something with his liver since no alcohol?

1. He's showing those skin blemishes on his skin, spider hemangiomas (Google it) which is a textbook symptom of many advanced liver disease 2. His doctors insistence absolutely no alcohol. Plus Tozawa is a semi fictional reference to a news story the real Jake Edelstein wrote about a scandal involving UCLA medical center into the 2000s where they did a liver transplant on a Yakuza boss (who obviously paid fat cash) and this was exposed so the medical center took some serious heat. I worked on staff at UCLA hospital for a year so colleagues first told me about this story before I even heard of Edelstein or his book. Last edited by edkwon; 05-10-2022 at 02:23 PM. |

Tokyo Vice's overall pacing was excellent, yeah it had its slow parts.
I enjoyed Westworld S3, didn't really have to put as much thought in it compared to past seasons and it was brave for showrunners to go in that direction. I'm not sure if Tessa Thompson is coming back but she needs to pay her dues in the skin dept. |

Got through the Snyder Cut of Justice League. (Never watched the Whedon lighthearted version.)
Some pretty shots. More depth of field than Pattinson's moody The Batman. I actually didn't hate Ben Affleck as Batman although his face looked oddly plump when in that mask. But it just didn't have coherence. Or character development beyond "oh, Aquaman showed up finally". |

Caught up on all 4 eps of We Own This City and I love it.
Likely gonna be up there with Chernobyl as one of the best mini series HBO has. |

There's plenty of context clues that you'll just notice immediately, especially after the next episode, that help you place where you're at. |

Some comic I have never heard of has a Comedy Store special on HBO. Jerrod Carmichael. Holy hell, he must be an upcoming actor for HBO because it was bad. Don't waste your time.

After puffing up We Own This City I found E5 a little lack luster.
There was less Bernthal and it was noticable. Perhaps they're saving the best of his character for last. Sent from my SM-A516V using Tapatalk |

God damn what a fantastic episode of Barry this week. Felt more like a penultimate but there's still two left for the season!

I've been re-watching succession and it has been so freakin epic the 2nd time around. I just got to the end of season 2 with that massive bombshell after the mini-vacation post-Washington DC and before the shareholder meeting. So epic.

'guy runs onto car lot...motocross person trials up onto the roof and across to showroom' *Sales guy, mid-sales-pitch, 'oh no...not today...nope...not today' heads to main sales floor as rider opens fire. Seconds later, after bullets rain down on shoppers, sales guy comes out...* I was laughing my ass off...the way the do these is fantastic! *what, no airbags where Barry lives???* BTW, this show should be a class study in how to choreograph a scene without a budget. In in almost no scene do we see any details but we clearly know people died or something happened, but the way it's filmed, you don't need to actually set up/film it, it's all post-work. No, it doesn't have the impact of Ozark or BCS, but it does the job, and I'll bet they are at 1/3 the budget. Last edited by Grap; 05-30-2022 at 08:02 PM. |

Well, it's HBO we are talking about here.
Sure it's likely not Thrones level budget but I highly doubt HBO is saying 'no' to most of the things they are asking. I was listening to a pod Hader does with the Ringer after every episode and he was talking about the setup for these scenes...only really mentioned the challenge of shooting them logistically, not so much any mention of budget constraints. |

Notice how everything is either off-screen or way-off, but still high impact? It's really smart filming. |
