Sounds terrible. For us, basic fares don't even come up in search and Delta and Southwest are preferred, but you can pick other airlines too. We have something called lowest reasonable fare and if you don't select that, it goes to your manager and not higher.

Nope. Not headquartered where I live (a small part of all the travel).

Someone explain to me how, in 2022, airline websites with all manner of personal info such as passport numbers, government security program info, numbers, address, contact info, travel program numbers, emergency contacts, etc....

...doesn't have 2FA.

Are you f**king kidding me?!?

Have run into this situation, but at least in my case flights were rebooked at no extra cost by the airlines.

However, the cost of flying has gone up close to 100% for the flights I am booking these days. Flights that I had been watching 6 months out all doubled in price, and I am kicking myself for not booking them when I could have booked them. Fortunately, looking to the end of 2022, most of the flights are not on my dime except for 2 trips in December.

Crossed the 100k mileage mark this year last week, the first time I have broken 90k miles. Will be nice to make the highest tier with our frequent flier program. Will make Platinum again with Marriott this year.

Lots of great dinners / meals, but prefer being home. Missed a ton of skiing b/c of all the work travel. At least the consulting fees are fantastic.

I don't know how people travel for work as a job.

Wow, people can’t keep off of their phones for a few minutes when they are boarding a ****ing plane…

Holy ****…hang up and pay attention to what you’re doing. Your call isn’t that important, and I’m sure whoever you are talking with doesn’t want to hear all of the noise on your end of the call.

It’s like everyone around me is yapping way on their phones and trying to talk over each other.

How do you guys feel about Airtags/Tiles in luggage? Has that just become another essential frequent traveler item?

I've got a full month of travel coming up to numerous places, including some international ones.

While I normally go to great lengths to stick to a carryon, I'm likely to get separated from my bag at least once.

You guys find those trackers to be helpful/useful?

Default Look, this is our Frequent Flyers thread!

I can’t see the need if you’re just carry on and it won’t leave your side.

Checked bags - how is a tile/tag going to help with a lost bag situation?

Stolen bag - I could see this but how frequently is this?

So many news reports of people tracking their checked bags going halfway around the world after they checked them for a 2hr flight.

Others saying they've been able to get their lost bags even after the airline says they can't find them even though it's onsite right there.

As much as I dislike Apple an Airtag would absolutely help since they ping off any Apple device and they last months on a battery.

AFAIK there's no equivalent device for Android.

Like @f4phantomii I have 3 overseas flights coming up and my wife will be putting trackers in them.

My plan is that anything we absolutely need we shouldn't check. If luggage is lost, claim it on the credit card / travel insurance if delayed, and buy new clothes/shoes etc.

I do about 75-120 segments a year, and over the last decade have only had luggage lost/delayed 2x. But this is a different time, and I try and I expect that the chances of lost luggage will be real.

I am purposely avoiding certain airports, but it isn't always possible.

Stolen luggage? happens, but they can have my clothes.

What is essential stays with me/us.

Android version is called Tile. I think they have actually been around longer than Airtags. But you know, Apple people gotta Apple and Airtag sounds catchier.

Some of the Tiles have user replaceable batteries.

And since Apple goes out of it's way to discourage users from turning off wifi, bluetooth, and the like, it dies form a more cohesive detection network.

From doing some quick reading not the same...not even close. Tiles only work with "other" users if they have the Tile app installed? At least that's what it looks like. Plus, if you want to locate a lost tracker it looks like you need a premium membership for $30/year?

Yeah, AirTag wins hands down IMHO.

Ordered a Tile.

One of my international trips is to a country I will *not* be taking my personal phone into, and other coworkers who have gone have told me to expect for my luggage to be opened and searched multiple times without me present.

Nobody has had anything go missing, but have had their luggage sometimes show up a day or two later even though they arrived at the airport with it and had to surrender it for "security" checks.

Both true, I think. Tile is less expensive so I decided to try it.

The subscription fee is if you want it to issue alerts if it gets too far from your phone (like if you left keys). And it allows you to have the Tile make a noise on command. But just getting it's last reported location is no cost.

Having worked in material handling industry for a few years now, if your bag still has a bar code on it, the airline has to know where it is in the system. Even if it fell off the conveyor, the airline has a record of when it was last scanned. I guess the situation can be a little more difficult with the lack of staffing, so they might not be able to send someone to physically retrieve lost bags.

To minimize your bag getting lost, make sure that the bar code on the tag is visible.

So my experience with a Tile went better than expected.

I sent it with my kid for a week who lives in another city and has an iPhone. So I knew it would have to be reporting "in the wild".

Sure enough, the Tile app allowed me to see last-seen location pretty regularly.

And regularly enough that I suspect any Samsung phone with BT & Location services enabled report detecting the Tile whether the phone has the app installed or not.

I have a ton of travel in the next 6 weeks so plan to take it on the road.

Pleasantly surprised to see I will be AA Gold next year First time I will have had "status" even though it's only a meager one.

Congrats. I'm on United and SW (loosing A list next year) so I don't know what does AA Gold get you. UA Gold gets me free Economy seats with extra legroom at ticket booking and group 1 boarding.

Ordinarily being $18 short of the next level would really piss me off.

But I will be well past Gold by the end of Oct and possibly Platinum by Thanksgiving.

Nice.

I will make Aeroplan Super Elite for the first time this year (next week), have been 75k for years.

Big difference for me is the ability to get worldwide business class tickets at 50% when using points, and a lot more upgrade credits.

Another gripe, flew to IST with a stop over in VIE. The overseas flight was in J cabin on an Austrian 767 which sucked. Was supposed to fly J cabin on Turkish Air MIA-IST but due to Hurricane Ian had to change plans. I realized I fly to much when I am not happy with a lay flat seat versus a nicer lay flat seat.

Lufthansa has decided to ban Apple Airtags from checked luggage. They are claiming because it's a transmitting device it won't be allowed.

Nevermind the dozens of phones with BT transmitting too. And apparently it's fine on a carryon or keyring?!?

I bet other airlines will follow that precedent.
