Well put.. when the people who know how to build a car start building EV's the Tesla fanboi with the megaphone in the corner screaming about 0-60 will start to fade away. Most people do not need the most extreme anything. They want solid average and reliable without all the extra baggage. And F150 is the perfect candidate to test the waters in the EV world. They outsell cars in some states by themselves. Ford better pour every penny this thing needs from day one. A mistake on an F150 is brand suicide.

Surprised they put an IFS rear in it. Also, pretty clever that scales function is. Don't know how useful it is though to anyone but the hardcore worker truck types....and they'd probably want a solid rear axle. Gotta give them credit though for innovating.

Deflation? We’ve been long into inflation. The feds changed how inflation is measured in the 80’s and is now artificially lower. We’ve been growing well above 2% inflation for a long time in most meaningful metrics.

Can we talk about how Ford isn't going to make the cheap one available any time soon for regular buyers? THere's no way you will be able to go to a dealership and see one for less than $60k (before tax credit) for years.

They advertise these bargain basement prices and you end up not being able to get one or it's severely de contented. Like if you want radar cruise control on an Explorer you gotta pay $45k.

This $40ish thousand EV F150 will be their equivalent $35k Model 3. They will make it unappealing (fleet customers aside).

and a Durmax straight 6 or a RAM ecodiesel may be better resale in 5 years . Ford dropped 6 diesel.
Soon as major battery tech change none will buy that truck used.
its like late 70s all over again. Product shortages and rapid price climbs till they have to rein it in with high interest rates.

Decent ride along review. Nothing super in-depth but looks moderately promising so far.

I was reading an article (and, of course, I can't find it now...) in which the author was pointing out that Ford hadn't revealed the size of the battery packs.
Also, not only we don't know battery pack size, but we don't know whether or not Ford is using 400V packs or faster charging 800V packs like in GM's Hummer.
Based on the 5% to 80% charging times quoted by Ford, the author says Ford is using the less expensive 400V packs to attract commercial customers (lower cost of entry).

In the article, the author guesses its 90kwh for extended range.

Found the article:

https://driving.ca/column/motor-mout...electric-f-150

Quote:
[...]It's possible - though, I'd suggest, not probable - Ford isn't offering us battery details because it has an upcoming battery announcement that is not yet fully developed.
One clue might be the Lightning's fast-charging specs. On a DC 150-kW charger, the smaller-battery version - with 110 to 130 kWh, estimates Forbes - take 44 minutes to charge to 80 per cent from 15, while the larger battery (150 to 180 kWh, says Forbes) takes 41.
Perhaps Ford has discovered some super-secret cooling system that lets its bigger battery charge more quickly, and is looking to surprise us closer to the Lightning's on-sale date.
More likely is the possibility Ford's marketing department simply doesn't want a direct comparison with GMC's upcoming Hummer SUT.
General Motors has already announced its pickup will offer batteries with up to 200 kilowatt-hours and 350-kW charging, double the Lightning's 150-kW maximum fast charge.
The reason - and again, there must be a reason for such glaring omissions in the spec chart - is that The General's Ultium batteries run on 800 volts, while the Lightning's lithium-ion setup almost assuredly operates on the same 400 volts as the Mustang Mach-E.[...]

The only battery info I have seen is a 2.4 kWh “house battery” for tools etc...

The battery has to be way larger to be able to get that can range on a truck that is not very aerodynamic. Also looking at the charging times you can tell that it has to be a fairly big battery. IIRC the Mach-E extended/long range has a 98kWh battery. The electric hummer is supposed to come with a 200 kWh battery pack .

300mi range & decently equipped (dual zone climate control, "leather" and interior that isn't F***ing gray, heated & ventilated seats) at 55-60k and I'm in; I won't want a first year (nor will I reserve one so wouldn't be able to get one anyways), but second year possibly. I don't want blue-cruize or any of the other "look at me" tech garbage, just bluetooth so I can run my pocket computer through the head unit for google maps & music. If the lower range model is significantly cheaper with my required appointments I can make it work too; I honestly only need the extra range a 1/2 dozen times a year, and if the wife gets an ICE CUV then it won't matter (thought she was in for a Sienna Hybrid AWD, but sadly no, Highlander hybrid AWD is likely in our future).

It pains me that I'm putting roof racks & and a cargo box on my IS simply because nobody makes a fun wagon anymore (you know, that isn't stupid money).

Not going to happen at $55-60k. I bet you’re looking closer to $75k. Hell, to get those features on an Ecoboost F150 you’re looking at $60-$65k Lariat. I think sticker on my lariat was a bit over $60k (Fx4, 502a, heated / cooled seats, etc). Hopefully within 5 years we see the cost come down and it can be had for $65k.

I’m interested to see what impact running the AC along with cooled seats has on mileage / range.

If a Lariat could be had for $70k’ish with heated and cooled seats and extended range, I could be tempted considering the federal and state tax incentives. I’m also interested to see what the residual value looks like in 2 years on a truck with 20k miles.
