Default Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Reveal Today

Quote:
Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo: Watch The Live Unveiling Of The Jacked-Up Electric Wagon Here

Porsche will further venture into the electric segment with yet another model: the Taycan Cross Turismo.

A Shooting Brake version of the regular Taycan with an increased ground clearance, it will officially debut today at 10 a.m. ET (4:00 p.m. CET), and the unveiling, which will feature CEO Oliver Blume, VP Model Line Stefan Weckbach and Brand Ambassador Aksel Lund Svindal, will be streamed live.

The jacked-up electric car, which boasts height-adjustable suspension, all-wheel drive and an exclusive driving mode that optimizes its dynamics on gravel, will allow it to tackle bumpy roads better than its four-door sibling. It’s not a full-blown off-roader, obviously, but a practical electric executive estate with superior comfort for rear passengers compared to the regular Taycan, and a bigger cargo area behind the seats that’s accessible via the large tailgate.

All versions with have a dual-motor setup with a two-speed transmission. The entry-level Cross Turismo 4 puts out 375 HP and 469 HP with Overboost and launch control engaged. The 4S offers up to 562 HP on Oversboost, or 482 HP without it. The most agile models will be the Turbo and Turbo S, with 670 and 750 HP respectively when using the Overboost function.

The Taycan Cross Turismo will start arriving at dealers later this year, and it will likely cost a bit more than the equivalent sedan.

How to time flies. Seems like only yesterday the Porsche loyalists where up in arms about a Porsche SUV. Good thing they did.

Default This Writer Tells ANYONE Who Doesn't Like EV's To GROW UP And MOVE ON. And You'd BETT

Quote:
People Who Say "F*** Electric Cars" Need To Grow Up And Move On

Despite the astonishing EVs we're being given by manufacturers these days, some people are still hell bent on hating what they know nothing about

People Who Say "F*** Electric Cars" Need To Grow Up And Move On - Blog
I’ll speak for everyone here and say that many of us have grown up with the phrase ‘Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow’ ringing in our ears. But these four cyles of an internal combustion engine are not the only four pillars on which we have built our love of cars. Freedom, speed, power, aesthetics, emotional attachment and learning new skills also play a big part, so why is it that some people are still hell bent on damning anything battery-powered?

The reason I ask this question is because I drove a Porsche Taycan Turbo S yesterday for a video you’ll see on the channel later this month. After a day behind the wheel, my overriding thought was ‘great, now everything else I drive will feel ruined’.

The reason for that is because the Porsche is astonishing in every conceivable way. For starters, I have never felt acceleration like it and neither had any of the guys on the shoot yesterday - it’s not a fast car, it’s time travel.

People Who Say "F*** Electric Cars" Need To Grow Up And Move On - Blog
Videographer / Presenter Jack even went so far as to say “this has to be the ultimate car”, and that’s from a guy who owns a BMW E36 328i Coupe, E39 530d and Mazda MX-5 Turbo project car. I, meanwhile, can’t argue with his sentiment either (except for the fact that I could buy 150,000 £1 Volvos (a car I currently have on my driveway for the same outlay).

Anyway, I liked the Taycan so much, I even gushed over it on Instagram, after which a few of those comments starting pouring in. ‘Fk EVs’, ‘Too bad it’s electric’ and ‘Electric piece of ****’ were some of what I’ve read and the reason for my rant because:

People who say ‘F* EVs’ clearly have no experience with them and presumably no driving licenses.

‘Too bad it’s electric’ makes absolutely no sense because if it wasn’t electric it wouldn’t tear your face off with every pull.

‘Electric piece of sh**’ might have been true 20 years ago, but EVs are now truly viable as one-size-fits-all cars because of +300-mile range models we’re seeing, great driving dynamics and a charging infrastructure that’s expanding at a rate of knots.

People Who Say "F*** Electric Cars" Need To Grow Up And Move On - Blog
So to the people who moan and cry about electric cars, grow up and move on, because you’re making yourself look like an idiot (as I’m sure I have in the past when I was openly skeptical). Also, if you’ve got no experience of something (and I’m guessing all of the naysayers mentioned above don’t), then what qualifies you to bad mouth an EV, especially one as exciting and compelling as the Taycan?

Perhaps once lockdown is lifted, I’ll have to contact a few people, borrow the car again and see if I can change a few minds. I’m sure once they’ve realised they need a change of pants after 2.8-second 0-62mph launch control pulls they’ll come round to my way of thinking.

But until that day, what say you? Are you with me on this, or are you of the mind set that anything EV is automatically a POS?

THAT is not a car for fat butts like mine. HATED every second I sat in the Taycan. Definitely a skinny persons car.

I would imagine taller folks having complaints as well....

The green one... probably $200k but it at least looks good enough to help justify. And the bike rack on the white one, not sure if awesome or absurd.

My primary issues with electric cars are cost and curb weight; both need to come down, the latter significantly so. I already don't like driving a 3,600lb car, I can't imagine how much I'll hate a 4,600lb car, but know I will. Secondary issue being that there aren't many offerings on the market right now, and there aren't any that interest me.

Any before anyone comes in with that "cars have gotten good at handling their weight" you're right, they have, but they still feel heavy and numb.

Right now everyone's chasing distance per charge, throwing huge battery packs at everything they make.

I hope that once they get past this initial phase, manufactures will start tapering back. I'd be happy with a 150 mile sporty EV that weighs a lot less.

Taycan is a good looking car (and can be fast), this new model looks great too.

The author should change his perspective to: if you're into luxo-barge power from a dig; if you want an vehicle with the driving characteristics of an economy car but doesn't need gas; you like high tech gadgets; or you want to be apart of the green initiative, unlike those faux greenies (and/or peasants) in their hybrids, then electric is a great option.

Default Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo wagon unveiled

Quote:
Higher-riding battery-powered Taycan Cross gets enhanced practicality, all-wheel drive and traction-boosting Gravel driving mode

Porsche has expanded its EV offering with the introduction of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo – a more practical, rugged wagon version of its Taycan sedan.

Confirmed for release in Australia around the same time as Europe, in the third quarter of this year, the crossover Taycan will be priced at $201,000 plus on-road costs for the entry-level 4S ($10,600 more than the Taycan 4S) and $271,000 plus ORCs for the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo — just $2500 more than the equivalent Taycan Turbo sedan.

For now, the range-topping Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, which is also powered by the largest 93.4kWh Performance Battery Plus, won’t be offered in Australia.

Based on the same J1 architecture as the Taycan sedan, the Cross Turismo variant features a longer roof and Porsche’s Active Suspension Management that employs a three-chamber air suspension.

With an optional Off-Road Package, drivers can raise the suspension a further 10mm to give the Porsche wagon an extra 30mm of ground clearance compared to the Taycan sedan.

Boosting traction, the Cross Turismo comes with a special Gravel mode, that pre-arms the chassis, stability control and throttle calibration for loose surfaces during light off-roading.

Drawing its styling cues from the 2018 Mission E Cross Turismo concept, the five-door wagon features a traditional shooting brake silhouette, with a heavily raked rear screen.

Other new elements for the Porsche wagon are new rims, and protective cladding for the sills and wheel-arches, plus a decorative-looking rear metallic bash plate.

Thanks to its raised roofline, headroom in the rear seats has increased by 47mm, although its 446-litre luggage-swallowing capacity (the Turbo and Turbo S boot is 405-litres) is almost identical to the sedan. At least seats down boot space is boosted to 1212-litres.

Unsurprisingly, sharing the same powertrains from the sedan, performance is remarkable whatever Taycan Cross Turismo you choose.

The entry 4S version, features two electric motors (one for each axle) pumping out 360kW. Thanks to an overboost function that raises power yet further to 420kW, Porsche claims the zero-emission wagon can polish off the 0-100km/h dash in 5.1 seconds, combining the strong acceleration with an official 455km range.

The quicker Turbo’s peak power, meanwhile, is 460kW or 500kW on overboost that ensures an incredible 3.3-second sprint to 100km/h, from rest, and a 452km range.

Finally, if somehow that’s not enough, there’s the Turbo S that ramps up power to a mighty 560kW on overboost and ensures the Cross Turismo can hit 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds, while still being capable of covering 418km between charges.

As part of the Taycan Cross Turismo’s introduction, the standard Taycan battery has had its charging capability wound up from 270kW maximum to 290kW. That means 100km of range can now be added in just five minutes.

Using a wallbox and the Taycan’s standard 11kW charger, a full charge takes around 10.5 hours. A new 22kW AC charger is an option.

How much does the 2021 Porsche Taycan cost? [ these Australia Price Tags ]
NOT USA PRICES

4S – $190,400
4S Cross Turismo – $201,000
Turbo – $268,500
Turbo Cross Turismo – $271,000
Turbo S – $338,500

* Prices exclude on-road costs

I think it looks good, not 200k-350k good, but I don't have that kind of disposable income; I too like the green.

Related/unrelated, I saw a Buick tour-x in the wild today, towing a trailer no less. I still like the way it looks (minus the plastic cladding at the wheel arches), if only it had mechanical pieces more in line with my interests.

Yeah exactly. Imagine something that looked like that green thing with a WRX 6MT AWD turbo 6MT* drivetrain for $35k on sale in NA. I'd keel over.

Had to edit that after thinking about it

So I ended up selling my 911 Turbo (got some good money back from it) and put down a deposit to build a new Cross Turismo 4S with anticipated build this summer and delivery later in the fall:

Some screen grabs how my config is supposed to look, we'll see how it matches reality

The rear 3/4 view of that is perhaps the most attractive of any car currently on the market. It looks perfect.

Nice call, Ed.

Came out of the store today to find your new car parked next to our Leaf. Looks mean as hell. I’d go for that green, but if not available? You nailed it.

Haha even if I'm wanted the green, I'm not sure I could get one in that color. Lemme explain and share a little bit of my shopping experience:

So I configured my desired build on the website configurator and had my build code in hand. I shopped around a few different dealerships in my area (SoCal) to see if I could do anything better than MSRP or get some kickback incentives for giving them addl business. Basically every dealership told me the same thing: allocations of the Taycan CT were going to be very scarce and each dealership would only be given one build allocation of each trim level of the Cross Turismo, so basically 4 builds max per dealership, at least at this time.

They all pretty much gave the same reason, the sales numbers of the Panamera Sport Turismo were poor overall in the US compared to the sedan so Porsche HQ was reluctant to allocate too many units of the CT to the US market and not see them move, especially at the high prices they start at.

So when I submitted my build config I basically had to get the approval from the sales GM of every dealership that my config wasn't too wacky or 'out there' so in case I flaked on my purchase, it was still appealing enough to sell to another customer. That probably includes picking weirder less mainstream colors or loading it up with too many frivilous options and jacking up the price to an unappealing degree.

Luckily my tastes don't swing that way and I did a reasonable and desirable config with a conservative color and only optioned what I considered important, Premium Package with upgraded 18 way power seats, heated/cooled, adaptive cruise control on top of the standard cruise, the Performance package which includes the basic sport chrono package, PTV, rear axle steer, PDCC, etc, and a few other cosmetic flourishes.

All the Cross Turismos comes standard with AWD and height adjustable air suspension standard, even the base model, which was a draw for me, and the full glass panoramic roof for the US market.

here's my build code for anyone who wants to peruse

https://www.porsche.com/microsite/po...px?c=/PMMMDYJ1
