Thanks guys!
Yeah definitely want to build it once. The rack is stock and everything fits great. The only thing I had to change was reroute one of the power steering lines around the mounts and add a little length to the steering link. |

Crossmember
Alright everybody. Here is the finished front crossmember ( X-member, Cross-member) that makes this ls1 swap happen. its all done except i may add a few minor gussets to the steering rack mounts. Obviously I also need to paint it too. I'm posting tons of pictures for you guys to see what i did.
Side not for anyone planning to build one. If i were to do this again I would have just build it from scratch and not reuse anything from a stock crossmember. https://i.imgur.com/vsHWopw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/AOfIjyS.jpg https://i.imgur.com/9g5V3bY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Q0AGnTp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/v2mv3aB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/E21Ilm6.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cesLKk0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1hH8jwj.jpg |

Motor is in with no jack stands. I'm super stoked!!!
https://i.imgur.com/N3LeWSb.jpg https://i.imgur.com/EvPvFJM.jpg I still need to clearance the manifold for the steering link and route the 2.5 inch tubing back to the cats. I think I'm going to run a Y to a single 3.5 exhaust after the cats. https://i.imgur.com/XJV74BQ.jpg I have basically the most badass shifter set up, the GTO t56 with this shifter combo shifts so tight and smooth. 10 times better than my 6 speed subaru trans. https://i.imgur.com/RKyzM6n.jpg Also clearanced the shifter hole and it fits great too. https://i.imgur.com/NKi6Vnd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/s72vZwL.jpg |

spindles
Well I assembled the rear end yesterday. The spindles fit great as well as the brakes and axles.
It still needs an alignment but the car went wheels down on all 4 for the first time in months and definitely the first time with the LS1 conversion in. I modified the z32 brake brakets and made my own hard lines, I then reused the OBS stock rubber brake lines for now to save $ for now. The parking brake cables need some work. The brake cables are a bit to long and dont lock up as tight as the should. They still lock but not enough for my liking so I'll figure that out soon. https://i.imgur.com/xr4bCWN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/08QZzrY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/J7T1SVe.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rxOJ6m9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Mql9grP.jpg |

small updates
I got a chance to work on the car a little this weekend. I don't have much free time these days but I will still work on the car when I get a chance.
First, I clearanced the exhaust manifold for the steering rack. It is a small restriction but its less than it appears because I removed the second wall of this section which gives more room inside. https://i.imgur.com/GfPPsFk.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OrNWoL9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dmoDgt0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wQRGR84.jpg https://i.imgur.com/X1tenPV.jpg Here its is cut up too. https://i.imgur.com/SrpDMLf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MlkLHyJ.jpg I started working on the turns coming off of the manifolds but I ran out of wire and gas at the same time.... Well that sucks! Haha. 11lb spool of wire and 150 bottle of gas aren't cheap either. https://i.imgur.com/QfoNeJr.jpg https://i.imgur.com/T9N3FGL.jpg |

Next, I worked on the t-bar. I wasn't sure if the driveshaft would have enough clearance and since I haven't ordered one yet I just did it to be on the safe side.
https://i.imgur.com/mYpHu6J.jpg?2 https://i.imgur.com/cwN2tk9.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pMlgXP6.jpg Here is stock for reference. https://i.imgur.com/uXpxak9.jpg Finally, I finished my parking brakes a while back but the Subaru cables were one inch to long so they didn't lock tight enough. Sooo, I cut them down. Problem solved! They lock nice and tight now. https://i.imgur.com/hKXToF4.jpg https://i.imgur.com/YNSae1E.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TNOcCqo.jpg As with everything on this build, it's the little details that take the most time. Thanks for following along ever body. |

Looks good! Is the exhaust going to have room to run back from the crossmember? It looks like they would drop right into it. Seems like a shorty that collects in the rear might fall where you need it to. Just my observation based on the pics.

Piston Junkie,
Yeah I agree. But I'm going to make the car smog legal in CA and get it BAR'd so headers aren't an option. All other manifolds hit the steering shaft so I'm making these work. They will fit the steering rack with a tight 90* bend. If I have to I will do pie cuts to get a really tight bend. Eventually I will build a set of headers for it or manifold for a... Turbo :-) but that will come later. |

Yeah it sucks! Haha. Thanks man. I’ve made it hard for myself unfortunately. That’s the cost of being particular. Haha.

Thanks Mac2008!! Welcome to the subaru family. They have been great cars for me. I’ve owned 4 of them(2 of which I don’t intend to ever sell) and want to but another.

Thanks Noobe! I actually built them out of trailer fenders. I just cut one in half and fit it to my liking.

exhaust work starts
I ordered more parts so I can keep working on it. Today I worked on the exhaust down tubes from the c5 manifolds today. It snakes around to clear the cross member and the steering shaft buts its coming out pretty good.
Started with the pie cuts https://i.imgur.com/FHFwL3P.jpg A lot of them. https://i.imgur.com/fjJvkOE.jpg Came up with this. https://i.imgur.com/0gftZdM.jpg Fits good too. https://i.imgur.com/IFK8E07.jpg https://i.imgur.com/f2gsoBF.jpg |

more exhaust work
worked on the driver side exhaust some more. 24 FEET of TIG wire used on just the pie cuts....
https://i.imgur.com/AsF22IN.jpg https://i.imgur.com/pKi0kjU.jpg It has good clearance between all of the hard surfaces. I dont expect anything to hit with the poly engine/ trans mounts. https://i.imgur.com/6SubH30.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OnWRia1.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7ONpPPK.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IVZHZzi.jpg https://i.imgur.com/TYCStgW.jpg Ground clearance for the cats is really good. pretty much flush with the bottom of the car. https://i.imgur.com/Mw0eJl6.jpg |
