Default T7 Volkswagen Multivan revealed

Quote:
Volkswagen’s commercial division has finally revealed the new 2022 T7 Volkswagen Multivan, showcasing a new Kombi-esque design and plenty of family-friendly cues inside.

Following a drawn-out teaser campaign for the new-generation people-mover, Volkswagen has now confirmed the T7 Multivan will be based on the ubiquitous MQB platform that brings more interior space than the current T6.1-based version, plus a towing capacity of up to 2000kg.

The new Multivan measures 4973mm long, 1941mm wide and up to 1903mm high, with a wheelbase of 3124mm. A stretched version measuring 5173mm is also available.

Although Australian prospects are unconfirmed at this stage, the new Multivan is under consideration for Volkswagen’s local line-up as a potential addition in 2022.

The new Multivan is headlined by styling that draws inspiration from both the iconic Kombi and the Volkswagen ID. Buzz that has been confirmed for production.

There’s also plenty of parallels with the new Volkswagen Golf Mark 8 that has just touched down in Australia.

Inside, there are even more cues shared with the Golf and the larger Volkswagen Touareg, including a 10.25-inch digital dashboard and a 10.0-inch centre touch-screen display, facilitating wireless charging and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring.

The Multivan will also inherit the latest IQ.Drive safety suite used in Volkswagen’s passenger car and SUV range, as well as vehicle-to-infrastructure connectivity.

Employing a new range of engines including the 1.5-litre ‘Evo’ family that has been ruled out of Australia to date because of our sulphur-rich fuel, the Multivan will include plug-in hybrid and diesel options abroad.

The engine shuffles drive via a shift-by-wire transmission.

Prospective Australian buyers are set to be offered a second row complete with two captain’s chairs that can be rotated 180 degrees to face third-row passengers.

There’s also a floating console with cup holders, power outlets and a fold-out table. Very Kombi-

Further maximising the T7’s practicality, the rear seats will also be removable, liberating up to 4053 litres in the case of the longer version of the Multivan.
Volkswagen Australia officially says the T7 Multivan is “under investigation” for the local marketplace.

However, given the ongoing sales success of the current T6.1, the T7’s inclusion looks like a fait accompli.

NO VW! You already had a winner with this:

Don't ruin it, just give us the ID buzz already.

This is just an updated ICE van that other markets have been getting for a long time. Sort of like how they developed a Golf/GTI/R along with the ID.3. The ID.Buzz is still coming.

Yeah, the and ID.Buzz is going to be as boring and slow as the other ID cars (+ saddled with the same terrible infotainment) if not more-so. Meh. It's going to be the New Beetle all over again.

I don't think anyone is looking to the ID.Buzz to knock their socks off with acceleration... And anyway, 0-60 of 6.2 seconds (ID.4 GTX) would be faster than most minivans...

I haven't seen the ID series infotainment, but if it's similar to what was in my MK7.5 R, I haven't been in a car with a better, more intuitive interface. No, it's not apple simple (stupid), but it was very powerful and easy to use once you played with it for 5 minutes.
