Arizona Subaru Club
i need your thoughts and remarks on an arizona subaru club. please let me know what you think about the club. i have a site almost built and was wondering if anyone would join and if anyone was interested. i have been talking with two california subie clubs and they wanna get a meet together so i figured what better way to represent az than with an az specific club. i can get stickers and shirts made at low prices. if you guys are interested please post up and give me some club name ideas. it will be a free club, just kind of a hangout online and then meets and drives will be set up on a monthly or bi monthly basis. forums and news and maps and past and future drives/meets are on the website. so post up and let me know what you think. if you think im wasting my time let me know that too. thanks for the help guys. and dont do anything i would not do. peace ryan

I think we should go with our own. AZscooby is never updated they dont reply to e-mails and they never organize events anymore. Also AZScooby doesnt have a forum. Just my thoughts.

It has been my experience in the past that it is hard to plan events that people are interested in participating in. We have done meets, BBQ and drives. Any input or help in planning is appreciated. The club will never be a success without help from its members.....
As far as the website, what would you like to see? Have you submitted information regarding the site? What email has gone unanswered? I try to do my best when answering emails. What do you want to do??? Better yet what does the Arizona Subaru community want to do? |

work with azscooby. back east we tried to start a national subaru club, twice (SECA). it flopped, twice.
azscooby is pretty big and is recognized, work with it and we can relaly expand it |

I'm new to the Subaru community, but not Valley car clubs. Seems that members AGE will play a major factor in your planning. Some don't care about tearing up/down Yarnell hill, others can't afford overnight trips to great driving areas. The "can't please em all" really comes into play. Will always be a battle my friend. Do your best and those that matter "will know."

It seems every few months we have these discussions, but then interest dies off rapidly...like the valley is a black hole for Subaru fans...
I know I suck ass at updating the site and replying to emails. After working on computers all day long I hate coming and home and doing it ;-) I am not making excuses, but that is the truth on why it doesn't get updated as much as it should... I will try harder... This forum is far better than any other website forum for planning events and such, as the userbase in the SWIC is much larger than a club site would be. As Bud said that is why we went this route back in the day. bugnuts seemed to have nailed it as well. Subaru's are a little different than other cars. Not to pick on Hondas, but the honda club scene on average has younger people involved than the Subaru scene. Different people are looking for different things, some people will never show up to a drive, some will never show up to a BBQ, etc. If you look around the SWIC there seems to be events quite frequently. In the last month or so Vivid had a big bash, their was an AMP track day, an Auto-X, Trucking nationals, the prescott drive, etc. I think that is a pretty good month. While the "club" didn't plan any of them I think there was a lot of things to do for Subaru guys and girls. I think a monthly get together would be a good idea. As fun as they are, it is hard to talk to other Subaru fans at race meets and drives. It would be great if we could just pick a day/night every month to have a meet. I know the local DSM guys have a SSS (Second Saturday Sonic meet I think) every month. It would be cool to have something similiar. Always open to suggestions. Regards, Aaron http://AzScooby.com |

so back to my thread, we need everybodies input on time and places for a monthly meet preferably someplace bigger than sonic. we can all meet up at one of the in and outs or meet at a park or something. i dont want the meets to be mandatory but we need to get a cultish following to show the country that the phx car scene doesnt suck. like when we where on bell headed out to speed world we had about 15 cars and we got a shat load of attention think if we had 30 plus cars in a parking lot then went and cruised some where. im as dedicated to this as anybody, i just want to meet some other owners and create a bond with my fellow subaru owners young and old.

My only problem is that i tried to become a member and never got a membership card or sticker. Ryan im thinking the site would work better as a Southwest Subaru Club Site not just AZ.

Aaron,
Maybe you could let DUBLURX help you out with the site. Personally I would like to see more drives, maybe weekend trips every couple months. I know that realistically it probably won't happen because everyone can't afford it or has to work... I appreciate the time the newer wrx guys are trying to put into this and getting things going. Especially since half of them don't even live in Phoenix. |

I think we should at least try it. I have to agree the attention we had crusing Bell on our way to speedworld was fun. Attention like that and I have a good time. What days are people available? I'm available tuesday + wednesday. Let's just get an idea

The frame work is in place, now what are we going to build? This needs to be a group effort, not just one or two people planning all the events. What does everyone want? What needs to be on the web site? Lets get the process flowing.
Next HUGE event is SEMA - West Coast Subaru Meet in November . Who's going?? http://www.imprezawrx.org/meet6.pdf Last edited by nick dickitt; 10-15-2003 at 11:01 AM. |

SEMA
Hey dust12
Try Hotels.com or vegas.com for rooms for SEMA.. Be prepared to pay a bit more than normal. The SEMA/WCSM is also the same weekend as the pro rodeo finals in Vegas. |

new club
ok well it seems there are mixed feelings on the subject and more and more of them lean towards azscooby. while the poll leans towards giving it a try. i would be willing to help with the azscooby site. i am new to subaru and car clubs in general. i understand aaron, that you are busy and cant keep everyone happy. that is not my point. i was just willing to start a new or maybe a different style of club that kinda keeps close with its members. i dont care if there is 3 or 30 members, im not going for size just a tight, close nit following. i dont even live in phx, i live in prescott and i am willing to make weekly trips to phx or flag to have fun in my subaru. i know that not everyone can do that and that is just fine, you can only do so much and i am not even asking anyone to make 100 percent of the events. i dont want to step on anyones toes or cause some weirdness between myself and the owners/webmasters/anyone involved with azscooby. i know i can keep the site updated and keep new pics and videos on the site. i have just finished editing the yarnell vid and will post it soon. i have salt river canyon film that needs to be edited. i work for an ambulance company and i have lots of down time. im on my laptop at work right now using the internet. i have built a few websites just sitting here in a recliner over the last 6 months. i have nothing better to do at work than keep a close nit subaru family going. but it kinda sounds like it might be a waste of time. the polls say one thing and the replys say another. maybe i should just set one up and see what everyone does, if they come over and visit the site cool and if not maybe ill see them on swic. but i do know that the 10 or so guys that i meet last weekend were really cool and i would love to hangout and drive and bbq and shoot the **** with them and others. someone needs to take charge and set this stuff up and i would love to set it up and keep it organized and that is my proposal. (damn i sound like im trying to sell something to you guys, like im running for office
so sorry about the novel and please keep the comments coming, i need your two or three cents on the issue. thanks for the help guys, ryan |

I voted "Yes sounds great" but I doubt it'll ever come to fruition... We've tried this, many times. Hopefully we can actually get this to work one of these times.

AzScooby definitely needs someone young and zealous to take over...There are too many married, family or business oriented people right now to get it going. DUBLURX good luck!
