VF58 (ST14411ZR010) ~$3,500+ "The ultimate iteration" and rarest IHI Subaru Turbocharger Used on the S206, S207, S208, Type RA-R Twin scroll turbine housing Revised, better performing & more durable ball bearing CHRA (in comparison to VF56) Compressor housing designed for DBW throttle body Larger, tapered 54.2mm turbo inlet (like all new gen IHIs) 6+6 blade compressor wheel w/ upgraded straight blade profile (VF56 has curved profile like the other VFs) 9 blade Titanium Aluminide (TiAl) turbine wheel & shaft for improved spool & response (same as VF56) Upgraded S" marked IWG actuator for holding more boost at lower WG duties. ~350+ whp - Safe to ~1.6 bar (23 psi) ASEL offers rebuilds and upgrades for these rare VF turbos. I'm in no way affiliated with them, but find their work very impressive. They own the only VF58 ever sold by IHI to the public. Some of their services: Ceramic dual ball bearing conversions (instead of normal steel) 6+6 straight blade billet compressor wheel (instead of curved, nickel) Inconel 713c turbine wheel & shaft (instead of nickel alloy oem on non-TiAl versions) Upgraded IWG actuator Reconditioning & balancing of whole CHRA assembly on Schenck machine w/ balancing certificate. I am certain with all the upgrades ASE does to the VF58 It will make 380 to 400whp on 93 on a Ej257. My current v48 setup made 350/380, I plan to install this and tell JR my tuner to shoot for those same numbers but have the power curve to be as broad as possible. I am still on the stock block and clutch. So for now, I would be happy with those numbers but instant like spool and more top end |

Impressive... for sure. thanks for the info.. sounds like a HolyGrail turbo.. you have the exhaust housings/uppipe for this??? Very nice Upgrade.. I did see where it was on alot of later model Stuff.. I like that its OEM and IHI... The S209 HKS turbo.. I don't think it is as desirable as this one.. IMO.. Pricey little thing isn't.. the Engraving is a super nice touch .. congrats again..

Yea the VF58 is definitely a killer turbo. If it can make 20psi by 3krpm on a 2.0 I cant wait to see what it can do on a Ej25 |

My VF58 upgraded by Advanced Sports Engineering out of Italy is on its way! I can not say enough at the customer support and knowledge ASE gives you. Very rarely anymore do you feel like your money goes further than the product you are buying.
As far as upgraded OEM Turbos go their VF58 is at the top IMO. The attention to detail is amazing. Overall Specs are: IHI VF58 Twin Scroll Turbocharger Ceramic Dual Ball Bearing CHRA 9 Blade Inconel 713c turbine wheel & shaft Forged Billet Aluminum 6+6 Compressor Wheel w/ Extended Tips Forge Motorsport Billet Aluminum IWG Actuator I think it may be wise to have the exhaust housing coated Cerakote at some point for thermal insulation. I plan to run my current setup this year on track, and over the winter install everything. Going to be using the OEM El header setup and up pipe, and probably modifying my Cobb Gesi Downpipe for the twin scroll flange. My power goals are pretty simple. I am completely happy with how the car drives with 350/380 right now. Its extremely quick for the canyons and track work I like to do. I just want INSTANT spool and a power curve that pulls to redline. That is where the VF58 Twin Scroll shines. On a EJ207 it has a brader power curve than an Ej257 with .5L less displacement. I cant imagine what that kind of power curve on an EJ257 is going to feel like. From the few people who have OEM sized Twin Scroll turbos on an EJ257 they have nothing but amazing things to say. ASE can do MANY different OEM turbo configurations. One such combination that almost had be sold was: P20 Exhaust Housing from a VF22 Turbo Ball Bearing Center Section VF48 Compressor Housing Billet Compressor Wheel Inconel Exhaust Wheel Comparable in price to a VF48 Hi-Flow but better performance. |

I was looking forward to seeing the results to see what that twinscroll does on the 2.5L STI motor vs JDM S207/208. I hope you get it sorted out Archer. |

Thanks for the condolences gentleman lol
First off, I wish the US had more companies run by people like Giorgio at ASE. When I first let him know what happened he was angrier than I was! I have no doubt after working with him for half a year that he will take care of me, and will stop at nothing to get whatever we thing we deserve from UPS. Also, the Subaru community, regardless of what people say about it, is absolutely freaking awesome. The amount of guys who work for UPS who reached out to me to provide any info they could on how UPS works has been astonishing. People loose car parts all the time. However, rare STi parts seem to still hold a high place in the hearts of many lol Anyway, there is hope. A few UPS guys who reached out to me told me how UPS deals with missing items and what I need to do to basically bypass UPS customer support. I went to my local UPS distribution center with all the paperwork they told me to take. An older gentlemen who listened to my entire story felt absolutely awful. He told me that he takes pride in his work and personally took offense that I had to deal with all this. He took my pictures, and my contact info, and did more investigation work than what his job requires. Because of legal stuff and what not all I will say is that he located it. He told me that he will personally make sure it gets back into my hands by then end of this week. Will he come through? God I hope so. But either way it has to go back to Italy for ASE to inspect it. Shipping it again scares me. I did have the idea that when it is done and ready to be sent to me, I would fly to Milan to pick it up personally and tour ASE and their shop. Hopefully this all makes for a great story one day. |

So your turbo was lost during shipping and now it's found? It's not clear in this thread what happened.

The situation isn't over yet, and I still don't have a turbo in my hands. So I wasn't really planning on posting full details about it until I actually had it, and any legal matters regarding UPS not accepting my large insurance policy was finalized Last edited by archer1.8; 05-12-2021 at 09:52 PM. |

Jeez, this is like a nightmare on Turbo Street. That too as the weather is getting warmer in the NE. So what does one do now to ensure another "insurance policy" is not nulled/voided/denied if this happens again with UPS?

In 2011, STi introduced the S206. All the online car reviews talked about the incredible throttle response down low and top end power on a 2.0L. That the new and exclusive revised twin scroll turbocharger was bespoke to the S206 only. I drooled over this press photo from the day I saw it, and 10 years later I finally have my own.......even though the Subaru Gods fought me the whole damn way!
I am so lucky to have this in my hands after UPS got done with it. I still have yet to get a straight answer as to what the hell happened to this turbo, why I was told it was damaged, lost, then stolen etc etc. There was no shortage of explanations. However, after doing my own investigating work by going to the distribution center and talking to people who actually remember seeing my turbo we were able to find it. It was on a plane to Missouri to the UPS unclaimed and damaged goods center for auction! Well, yesterday this showed up randomly on my door step. All of the packing material was gone! Someone attacked this thing with a razor blade and just threw it all back in without anything. Still don't understand how the turbo "fell" out of the box, but whatever. Anyway the turbo looks to be fine externally. Once I had it in my hands the disappointment finally subsided. This thing is beautiful. Hats of to ASE and Giorgio. I do want to get the exhaust housing coated before I install it. But hopefully internally it is fine. I can now get on with finding the rest of the parts for this setup and shoot for a tune this winter. Last edited by archer1.8; 05-16-2021 at 08:17 AM. |
