Default How-to: Install Outrigger Bushings

Outrigger bushing install...
1) Remove the two 12mm bolts and 17mm that hold the crossmember to the bottom of the car. (Its a triangular plate in front of each rear wheel. You dont even need to jack up the car to do it.)
2) Yank the crossmember down with your Viking strength. Remove the stopper plate that rests on top.
3) Grease up the thicker bushing, place the plate on it, and put it back on top of the cross member.
4) Grease up the smaller bushing and place it in the bottom of the crossmember.
5) Place the plate back on and thread the bolts in.
6) Torque the 12mm bolts to 24lbs/ft. Torque the 17mm to 74lbs/ft.
7) Repeat for the other side.

By smaller do you mean smaller diameter or thinner?

the outrigger set comes with 6 bushings and from every install I have seen it says to only use 4 total. The set comes with 2 large circles (one thick, one thin) and a small circle. He is probably asking if your referring to the large thin circle or the small diameter one.

EDIT: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...rigger+install this thread helps explain the 2 different ways to install this. One with the small one and one with the thin one.

Via the link on Turn in Concepts webpage. They have links to a lot of install instructions for a lot of the parts they sell.

I'll make a note for some folks who actually intend to swap out the bushings, i.e. replacing with a Group N part or similar. The outrigger bushing is a press-fit type bushing. It's metal sleeved pressed into a metal hole. It take a lot of effort to get it out, and you may find yourself aiding the process with a cutting torch, chisel, and hammer. Once you melt/smash/press/pound out the old one, the new one needs to be pounded/pressed back in. Because of the kind of effort you go through with the metal sleeved bushings, the Kartboy products become quite attractive alternatives.

i just installed some full bushing replacements from powerflex on my impreza. all i needed was to get the rear beam out of the car which took awhile but wasnt too hard, and then cut the old bushings out with a hacksaw, being careful not to cut past the sleeve of course. the difference between stock and the new poly ones is huge. no more clunky shifts, a smoother, quieter ride, and a better handling car. its awesome. i had the kartboy washers for 5 years, and while they were WAY better than nothing at all, nothing can compete to a full bushing swap. i feel that the washers will work as a bandaid fix but my car had 130k on it at the time of the swap so the stock bushings were probably kinda worn out.

Default Powerflex outrigger bushing help

I know this is a pretty old post, but I am doing the Powerflex outrigger bushings on my 04 WRX. I was wondering, were you able to reuse the circular plate with the three tabs that goes in between the bushing and the car underbody? I am trying to figure out if the little fingers go into the three openings on the Powerflex bushings but they don't line up at all and I am wondering if that OEM plate is reinstalled with these aftermarket bushings. Any information helps.

Thanks
