Today I installed JDM power folding mirrors on my 2015 WRX Limited.

Good news for those of you that were thinking of doing this mod, both doors are wired for this mod.

Bad news: You have to swap (re-pin) the harness and you have to dremel a hole for the power fold switch.

Not a big deal for either but I'll explain.

I purchased the "POWER FOLDING MIRROR SET PAINTED VERSION" from Japanparts. I have a Galaxy Blue Pearl WRX but I went with Galaxy Blue Silica.

You also need the "83061 SWITCH, REMOTE CONTROL MIRROR" from japanparts.

I also bought the "DOOR MIRROR AUTO SYSTEM" but didn't install this as I haven't found instructions for it. It appears you connect it inline to the switch but I'm not sure of the other connections. Here's a pic:

First, remove the door panel from the driver's side and remove the factory USDM mirror.

For a good tutorial on this, see this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp9YxVGqbi0

The JDM mirrors come with a 12 pin harness. The USDM mirrors (at least on my limited) have a 10 pin harness. Inside the door where the harness connects is of course for a 10 pin harness. So you need to remove the pins from both harnesses and re-pin the JDM mirror to the 10 pin harness.

Here is the JDM harness:

The new JDM mirror will add turn signals and power folding so there will be a total of 9 wires.

To remove a pin from the harness, release the locking tabs from the top and bottom and then I just used a safety pin as follows:

Push the safety pin under the pin in the harness and pull out.

You will be re-pinning the 10 pin harness just as it was wired for the 12 pin JDM harness. The last 2 pins on the 12 pin harness were blank (no wires were attached).

I took comparison pictures so you can see where the wires are supposed to go and in what order:

Top of driver's side mirror harness JDM vs USDM:

Bottom of driver's side mirror harness:

Once it has been re-pinned to the 10 pin harness, hook the mirror up to the driver's side and connect the switch (leave the door panel off for now). The switch folding functions and the mirror adjustments should work. Also test the turn signal.

Now do the passenger's side the same way.

Top of passenger side mirror harness JDM vs USDM:

And bottom of passenger side harnesses:

Once re-pinned, test the mirror as before. One quick note, before testing I would make sure the other mirror is in the same position (folded or unfolded). I'm not sure it matters but just to be safe. So if you want to test your passenger mirror and it's folded currently, before connecting it, connect the switch and driver mirror and make sure the driver's side mirror is folded. Then connect the passenger side and test unfolding both mirrors at once. Just a recommendation.

Once tested, bolt both mirrors back up and route and connect the harness in the door. Reattach the door panel on the passenger side (make sure you attach the door handle and door lock cables along with the power window and lock switches).

On the driver side door panel, we now have to cut a hole for the folding switch to pop through. You can remove the whole switch panel from the door panel. There are 2 screws holding it in place in the back of the door panel. Then release the locking tabs and push it up through. You can now remove the USDM mirror switch by releasing the locking tabs.

Using the JDM folding switch as a template, mark off where you will be cutting the hole. Measure twice, cut once:

Push the new JDM switch in to lock it into place. Now lock the entire switch panel back into the

Admittedly I did a terrible job cutting the hole and will probably take a dremel buffer wheel or something to it. There may be better options here (European market switch panel?) so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Now connect all the wiring to the door panel and reconnect the lock cable and door handle cable. Reattach the door panel and you're all set.

Any questions for me, please let me know. Also, if you know how to wire the auto close module, that would be greatly appreciated.

Outside shot:

Here's the mirror in action:

That's awesome man! What did this cost you all in? How long for the install?

Where do you find the wiring for that connector? I'm interested in figuring out the wiring for adding an auto headlight stalk to a base/premium, but don't know how to determine the wiring scheme.

For the wiring research, did you ever see wires designated for the JDM puddle lights? Perhaps these folding mirrors have the JDM puddle lights?

Thanks! It took a couple hours. Hardest part was removing pins from the harness. Once I get the hang of it, it was fine. As for cost...gulp. It was a lot. Add these up:

I'm just happy it worked out.

I just looked at the two connectors. If you look at the driver's side top of the harness comparison pic, you'll see the stock connections went black then blue left to right. JDM side went black, blue, brown, green. So I knew when I had to re-pin the JDM mirrors with the USDM harness it had to go black, blue, brown, green. Unfortunately I won't be able to help you with the auto stalk. Maybe someone with a limited has taken it apart and can snap a pic?

I ran out of daylight yesterday since I started late but will add some shots to the main post in a bit.

I think that's why the JDM harness has 12 pin slots. But if you'll notice in the first shot of the JDM harness the left 2 slots aren't pinned. That's probably where the puddle/welcome light wiring goes. However, where the harness plugs into the door, it only fits the 10 pin harness. So it's not wired for it. The 9 wires are: 2xblack for heating, 1xblue for power, 1xgreen and 1xwhite for turn signal, 1xbrown and 1xgray for folding, and 1xpurple, 1xpink driver side for adjustment motor, 1xred, 1xpurple passenger side for adjustment motor. That's all 9 wires, one pin is blank on the harness.

Maybe if someone has a limited with keyless entry they could check to see if it's a 10 pin harness or 12 pin in the door?

I wish that the 2016 would come with an option that is auto folding, auto dimming, heated and welcome lighting enabled. I hope it won't cost as much as this.

Do you really need new mirrors? I can't imagine there is any difference in the mirror itself.

I think you have to buy them as an assembly and not just individual part numbers. Could be wrong though. I think the JDM mirrors give a wider view so they are better than USDM.

That is correct, you have to buy them as one assembly as far as I could tell. Otherwise, the other poster was correct, I did not NEED the housing. The wide angle mirror lense is included.

It would be a good idea to swap out the housings with the USDM one for best viewing angles. The JDM housings work for me because I'm short but it may not work for everyone.

So as another step besides swapping the harness, I recommend swapping the housing too.

Nice job bud! As has always been the case you can go used on the parts to save some money. I have a set of '12 JDM Impreza mirrors with no takers on buying them, perhaps anyone here might be inspired to do this if the price were right...you would be able to do this mod way cheaper, just PM me.

dibbage I'll just reply here to your PM it might help others:

Auto-close module - the accessory JDM Subaru one is a bit of a mystery. I know how the aftermarket ones work as they will usually have a wiring diagram. Did you look in the door to see if there is a place for all those plugs to go hopefully it would match the JDM stuff if you are lucky!

OEM Trim panel - this is a problem too as the door trim is specific to LHD you would need to find a country that has LHD and the folding mirrors on the Impreza/WRX and get the trim part from a dealer in that country. Typically Europe will be the source but not many parts sources in the LHD countries for Subarus there that can help. Its a bit of a challenge.

I meant the mirror glass itself, not the housing. I know the housing has motors and whatnot that means you need the entire housing. I was questioning why you needed the JDM mirror glass. I know they'll be a wider angle but the USDM mirror glass should fit and work until someone chooses the swap to the JDM mirror glass, if at all, correct?

All of Europe is left hand drive. I'm sure some place like Germany has power-folding mirrors. Everything in Germany has power-folding mirrors.

Just to close the loop on this, DSOmegaX found the part number for the power folding switch door trim. It's: 94263VA170VH

I would love to get a LHD version of this with the cutout for the power folding mirror switch: https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/47926

For something that has absolutely nothing to do with smog regulations, I wonder why they just do not come standard...?

I was able to order that piece from my local dealer in Canada, so it should be available in US dealers as well.

If not I can order it for you, just pay for the shipping/part.
