This guide is assuming you have already installed and wired your AEM Ugeo wideband and mounting already.

I did a lot of searching around while I was trying to tune out my stage 2 XPT map and I did not fine a suffiecent guide to wiring a ugeo wideband, while getting romraider to interpret it so I created this guide in hopes of saving people time and not re posting about the topic. If you have additional information you'd like to see in this thread please PM me and I'd be happy to add it. I do apologize for the low quality pictures they were all taken with my phone.

Why won't a direct USB work?

The USB protocol is much much more advance than the RS232 protocol.
For more information on why this won't work, refer here:
http://www.beyondlogic.org/usbnutshell/usb1.htm

You will need the following parts to hook up your serial/usb to your AEM ugeo wideband(some parts are not required)

All of the following were purchased at RadioShack, @ a total of $59.73, not including a solder iron. I did over budget the project but the serial to usb converter I purchased was well worth it, high quality material. If you plan to go the cheaper route I've seen these cables for around $5-6 dollars on Ebay, just make sure driver software is included.
  • DB-9(rs-232 9pin female serial port) - $2.49
  • Serial Connector hood - $1.99
  • 3 Pack of colored 20 gauge wire $7.99
  • .25oz .032 lead free solder - $3.89
  • Gigaware 6ft Cable USB to Serial Cable - $39.99
  • Terminal Lug for ground
  • Conjoiner for connecting the data output to serial wire
  • Wire crimps & splicers

Recommended but not required:
  • Old ethernet or similar gauge wire cover
  • Shrink Wrap

Quoted from the AEM Manual:
Quote:
*WHITE <Analog Output>
Connects to any auxiliary unit that accepts a 0-5 volt input.
*BLUE <Serial Output>
Connects to a RS-232 com port for hyper-terminal data logging.

Serial Output
The serial output can be used for data logging when an EFI system is not accessible.
To run the data stream, a RS-232 (DB-9) Female Receptacle shall be purchased.

Quote:
Two wires need to be connected to a RS-232 serial port. The BLUE wire from the AEM
UEGO Gauge shall be connected to Pin #2 (RX) on the serial port for receiving data.
Page 7
Pin # 5 (GND) on the serial port shall be grounded. If a standard 9-pin serial cable is to
be cut instead, the (RX) wire is typically RED and the (GND) wire is typically GREEN.
However, this should be confirmed with a continuity tester before attempting. (Figure 5)
Use HyperTerminal for testing the data stream. This software is found on most PCs. To
find HyperTerminal go to: Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications |
HyperTerminal. Name the New Connection and click OK. Set the COM port to the one
being used and click OK.
Bits Per Second = 9600
Data Bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1
Flow Control = Hardware
Step 1.
Splice two 3-4ft length wires for the two required serial ports that the AEM manual recommends.

Start by soldering one wire to pin # 2 on the back of the serial port, they are almost always labeled with small numbers both on the front and backside.

Step 2.
Solder the ground wire to pin #5 on the serial port, its recommended to use shrink wrap on these, however I did not.

Step 3.

This step is not required but from the vague tutorials i've seen I wanted to "pretty" mine up and make it last when it comes time to messing around in your dashboard. I work @ Intel and I get a crap load of this ethernet wire all the time that they just throw out for scraps, you more than likely should have some old wiring laying around that would work. I'm almost certain the same gauge for extension cords would work even. I cut the two ends of the ethernet ports off and yanked the inner wires out leaving the wire cover hollow.

Trim the wire cover a few inches shorter than your regular wires going to the serial.

Step 4.
Feed the wires into the hollow wire cover, it takes some time and patience, it's best to try to keep the wire cover as straight as possible.

Step 5.
Again not required but if you purchased a connector hood use one of the small mounting brackets to keep the wire and cover in place to prevent it from getting yanked out.

Next secure the upper cover with the remainder of the mounting screws.

Step 6.
If your going to splice into a ground discard this step but I used a terminal lug and bolted it to the chassis of the car. I used one of the locations just below the shifter on one of the center cluster screws.

Step 7.
You will have two wires left from your Ugeo installation, a blue and white wire. The Blue wire is a Serial Output that will connect to a RS-232 com port for hyperterminal data logging or in romraider. The white Wire is a 0-5v analog output wire that is used for an EMS system, it is not required.

I did something in particular for putting the serial and usb in my glovebox, I sacrificed one of the screws on the inner side of the glove box on the top left.

Step 8.
Run the serial wire threw the small left screw hole and into the center head unit cluster.

Step 8.
Re-assemble the radio head-unit and glove box back together.

I will be adding more screen shots for comm port configuring for romraider AEM Ugeo to work within the next week or so.

Enjoy.

You need to invest in atleast a 25watt solder iron, there 9.99 at radio shack, and even come with solder and some tools.

Is it possible to just get a USB cable and connect 2 leads of the USB cable to the AEM gauge ? I read your post and i was just wondering since there is a DB9-USB in between the gauge and the USB port on computer.

The serial line you made just connects to serial to usb connector anyways right. ???? SO is it possible just connect two wires to the serial end of the [serial to USB] cable. Of course providing they are shielded and insulated

Just wonderin if i can smplify getting so many connections

Do you remove the factory O2 sensor or weld additional bung pre hi flow cat

Please forgive noob here on USB and serial cable
