Medium bump from the dead.

Might be a dumb question, but is there a way to transfer just the tracks from the GD's base onto the GR base? Looking at those pictures, the "track" is where both seats are bolted to the bar. If it was possible to remove just the GD tracks and fit them to the GR seat bases, it seems like it'd be a LOT less work.

...that's assuming the base/tracks can be separated.

I picked up 08' STi seats, hoping that the 07' WRX rails will be the same!

I attempted this today on MY07' and looks like it cannot be done. The rails are designed completely different and even have different bends. I even tried to swap the rails, but the bolt holes did not line up.

I was able to complete the install and MY07' has the side air bags so this was a bit of a touchy/fun swap. No CEL! And my passenger detection system works fine. You are using the bottom/guts of your stock seat just swapping the materials over, so you shouldn't have to re-wire.

i don't think the body changed from 02-07 because people interchange those seats all the time, so i don't know how you weren't able to install the 08 sti seats by following the instructions in the OP

Because the attempt was just to swap the sliders/tracks, not the entire slider/rails etc.

I'm about to do this soon

Can you elaborate on this more? Are the fittings the same? GD STi seats have to be the most uncomfortable seats past 30 mins of driving.

are you asking about the air bags or the actual seats? for the actual seats, go to the first page of this DIY thread

Exactly as moss said, I attempted to do it by only swapping the sliders/tracks only and confirmed it does not line up. You need to swap the entire seat base as per your instructions in the OP.

You are swapping out the entire base. The high back/upper half bolts directly onto the seat base.

all i did to install 08 sti seats in my 00 rs is swap rear seat mounts. the parts riveted and welded to the seat rail, i used a spot weld remover drill bit, a pry bar and a hammer and a dremmel with a cut off wheel. I bolted the 00 RS rear mounts in the car, then placed the 08 seat in the car, to see where it lined up. once i was happy with the fit i welded the rs mounts to the 08 sti seat rails. I've had this in my car since decemeber with no problems.

+1

I'm also interested if the BRZ seats fit in the GD.

I sat in a BRZ last night and the seats are WAAAAY better than the GD WRX seats.

untill you get into an accident and a cheap ass weld breaks sending you into the windshield. If you like pizza face then "fab" away.

Because stock/manufacturer stuff never fails or has a defect resulting in same thing. Its a risk regardless, if somebody is willing to fab something in general its because their willing to do the work, willing to go a little over board for extra protection, etc. You don't need to go around saying because its custom fab its sucks and your going to die.

Unhappy

So I purchased some 2013 wrx seats to put in my bugeye, and when I took the trim price off the side like in the first pic but there aren't 2 12mm to remove the back Of the seat. So I'm guessing I cant use my bugeye rails notes gr seats.

Can you describe the problem a little more clearly? And you please post some pics of the 2013 seat rails and bracket? Are there welds instead of bolts, or what?

Bringing the thread back. I am in the process of the mod. The rail swap is easy enough but I'm wondering how people deal with the airbags and the heater plugs? I'm putting the seats into my 04 FXT.

My GR front seats are not heated, so no plug for that. And I cut the plug from my original seat and soldered it onto the GR seat plug/harness for the airbag.

You are using your original seat base, so no height difference...or not one that I noticed.

The back seat looks cramped is that cause the seats are moved back or are the seats just that big

honestly this looks like a very easy fab job...toss in a couple of gussets and and extra stitches and it'll be good to go

this seems like a reasonable option

Has anyone looked at the gap/distance between the side of the seat back and the B-pillar on a GD and then compared to that of the GR? I am wondering if there is enough room for the airbag to deploy correctly. If not, having the GR airbags active in a GD chassis could be bad.

I used to have a GR and still have a GD. If memory serves me correctly the GR has WAY more open space between the seat and the B-pillar. Another concern is that you are getting rid of your 04-07 seats then you no longer have head protection for side impact.

Side note: Supposedly the 02-03 seats only have side body air bags (no head protection)
