![]() quick question, does meth chemically bond with the h20 when you mix it? Im using faucet (brita) water and 100% VP meth, will the methanol sink to the bottom of the tank because its a heavier mixture? Or do they bind together?
Thank you, Jeff

Researching, I have heard that the meth will absorb the water, or something to that effect over time. DP |

![]() once mixed the methanol will be inseparable from the h2o by anything short of distillation. the two will never stratify.

![]() It depends on how you tune for it. If you just use it as a knock preventative and don'ttune to the ragged edge you will be no worse off, and probably better off than you are now. Knock destroys moremotors than anything else, IMHO.

![]() Uhh I am sure there is no downloadable tunes for meth injection. You will need to get a custom tune.

![]() What could be causing the ecu to initially pull timing when the water/meth starts spraying? Wrong mixture? I'm running a 50/50 mix of Heet/distilled water. While tuning and logging, I've noticed the timing drop to as low as 12 degrees when is starts to spray.

What kind of controller are you using to control spray? What is the set point to start spraying? Do you have a log with (at least) RPM, Load, Boost, AFR, Total Timing, FBKC and FLKC? |

![]() I'm using the UTEC in SD mode. Prior to spray, my fuel and timing was perfect. I road tuned the car myself and got everything exactly where I wanted it. Here's a log of a run made with my 18psi SD map that was completely dialed in. I didn't make any changes to it when I added the meth into the equation just to see where I was at. This was with the gain set to 8 on my var-cool controller and I'm running a 500cc nozzle which is placed just after the BPV and before the TB on my cold side FMIC pipe.

![]() If your tune was dialed in and you made no changes except for spray, I'm stumped.
A question about the Vari Cool controller. From what I've read, you set the min and max boost pressure with the left and right dial. The center dial is the gain, which you set at 8. Just throwing random numbers, if you set the left (min) dial to 12psi and the right (max) to 18, what the center dial does is set the duty cycle of the pump at max flow? So in your case, it would be at 80% duty cycle at max flow? What are your min and max settings? Buck ETA: Which HEET are you using? Last edited by bucket7788; 01-19-2009 at 12:45 PM. ![]() I have the controller min @ 10psi and max @ 21psi. I'm using the yellow Heet, not the red Iso Heet. Here are some logs from last night w/ the gain @ 7. Seemed to improve a little bit.

![]() I think It's interesting to see in posts 97 & 98 that power on water/meth injection was lost initially around 4000 RPM (compared to peak on pump gas), then regained and increased above 5000 RPM. Why would there be a loss in power? Is the tune not right, is the amount of spray too much for the boost and AFR at that point?
Anyway, I would love to run water/meth injection but I am concerned about blowing my very expensive fresh built motor... What are the options out there for having my ECU switch to a conservative map automatically when the level in the water/meth tank run low for added protection? Will an Accessport be able to do this? What other ECU options are there for water/meth injection (hydra, motec, etc.) and what advantages does one have over another? If I run my car at a track all day where I would be in boost often, what is the ideal water/meth tank size to hold enough fluid to account for each tank of fuel if the fuel tank capacity is 15.9 gal.? What are my options for water/meth tanks, who makes them, and where can I buy them? Thanks in advance. |

You can run water meth on just about any engine management you can tune with. I run Accessport 2, and this the most stable tune I have had yet. I have ran meth on open source, and UTEC previous. Accessport was way better for quality of tune, and the same tuner tuned all the other types I have used. Most of the water/meth system makers produce some sort of tanks for their system. Mounting or finding space to mount becomes the issue. You can't mount a big system under the hood tank wise. I would say what would work best would be the STi spec C 13L tank, and say that if you go to the track, to bring extra juice already pre mixed. Get a 5 gallon race gas container (can be bought through summit, jegs etc.) and keep some mixed and ready to go for when you come in between sessions. As far as switching on the fly, I don't think accessport can do it without shutting the engine off. So you are kinda hosed on that. UTEC can swtich on the fly though. You just have to throw the clutch in let the RPMS drop below 1000, switch the map with the remote switch, and then let the clutch out. But you would also have to tune for that more consevative map. If I were going to do this I would make wire my meth system controller so I could power it off from a swtich, so it doesn's kick on while on that "conservative map" Hope all this helps. If you have more questions ask. -Andy |

![]() I've had a UTEC and was not happy with it. I have OpenECU now and was looking to go with something more feature-rich and advanced like an AP2 or Hydra, but want some sort of integrated safeguard in the ECU like Snow Performance's SafeInjection which drops boost pressure and cuts ignition timing advance:
http://www.snowperformance.net/product.php?pk=13 As far as tanks go, I have a wagon and would need to fab up a bracket for the Spec C tank. Since I'd need to make something anyway I am not restricted and can pretty much use anything I want. With a little searching I found the following companies making reservoirs: USPC: http://www.usplastic.com Alcohol Injection Systems: http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.com Devil's Own: http://www.alcohol-injection.com 5 Gallon Black Multi Purpose Tank (10-1/4" H x 15" W x 8-1/2" D) for $24.55: ![]() They have other containers as well ranging from standard washer tanks to petrol-safe containers for fuel and oil, like this 2.5 Gallon Tank (7.75" x 12.75" x 7.75") for $21.73: ![]() or even go for something more extreme like this 6 Gallon Fuel Tank with 1/4" Brass Fitting (18" L x 14" W x 12" H) for $72.09: ![]() ^^^ There is a 12 gallon option for a few bucks more as well, and both can come with or without the fitting. AIS makes this 6 Gallon Water Alcohol / Methanol Tank With Pump Mount (15" L x 12" W x 8" H) for $89.99: ![]() Here is a link to all of their tank options: http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.c...c39/index.html From what I can tell, Devil's own has the same tank options as AIS here: http://www.alcohol-injection.com/tan...7e558086a70785 I'm sure there are more but this is what Google came up with in a quick search. ![]() Note: the pictures are link to their associated pages on the sites. |

![]() Very nice info in here. This stuff is great to see coming from the VW / Audi community where W/M injection is seen as "new technology that no one understands".

![]() I ordered a Coolingmist CMGS kit yesterday and plan on running 50/50 (Denatured Alchohol/Distilled Water).
As far as this setup, except from the "steam cleaning" effect from the alchohol, what would be the pros of running methanol in leu of alchohol? |

![]() Please help. I have a SMC methanol injection system installed on my 2004 sti. Everything has always worked fine untill i took it to a mechanic to have a new ACT 6 puck clutch kit and new light weight flywhee installed. The garge i went to was recomended by a guy i know that has multiple high performance, highly modified cars.
I went for a ride after the install to break in the new clutch and found that the car felt under powered compaired to usual. The car makes 454 whp spraying meth. I noticed that the indicator light on the dash control module that let you know that the system is armed was lit as it should be but at 10 PSI the system should spray but does not. No spray at all. The mechanic said that all he did with the electrical system was pull the batery. I checked the ground wires for the meth pump, they were fine. I am really upset about this. I worked fine when i took it to this guy. I just noticed it today and the mechanics shop is closed so i havent had a chance to bring the car back to the shop. I reset my map with my access port to the 26 psi + meth map because the ECU had reset after they pulled the battary. Can anyone help me? I tried the spay test and got nothing. |

![]() Thanks for all the info.
Here in The Netherlands w/m injection is relativity 'new'. So I was forced to read all the info in English hihi. I myself am driving a Alfa Romeo 156 1.9JTDm 16v with massimo chiptuning from Squadra and I am experimenting with the standard set of Coolingmist for the small diesel. Again much thanks for all the info it was really helpfull. |
