Unhappy dccd failure ,help only400 miles

I was driving my sti(showing my dad new sti) put in manual mode(all the way to bottom setting) drove in first gear a little bit, stopped car put on hand brake.Got out of car,got back in car let brake off,put back in automatic mode but would not go.Restarted car it went into automode untill I get into 3 gear and goes write back to the mnual setting and can not switch it.The manual says this is a dccd falure take to subaru dealer for inspection.I am really upset,is all right to drive it like this,I drove it home thats it about 2 miles. It is suppose to reset when the hand break is used and will go back to the original manual setting. It only has 400 miles on it.Any help or advice thanks Matt the dealer is not open till monday and I need a car for work

My guesstimate is that the DCCD fails open --- you should be ok to drive it. Any other lights (like rear diff temp?)

Hi Glen, nice to meet you and thank you for the fast reply.I enjoy the website and your answers to questions. No the diff temp lite is not on.The only light is the failure system lite for the dvvd. When I start the car and drive all is ok till about 3rd gear ,then it goes out of automatic and to the last setting on the bottom(closest to the armrest) and flashes. After it does this it stays stuck there can not go to automatic or manuel.
Is this a seruos problem or just a sensor or reset type of thing? I never drove around in the manual mode or got on it at all, really babying it,except for jumping in traffic and doing 75 mph to mantain the flow of traffic going into New Jersy to work fromPA.It is a hour and half each way to work and I am affraid to drive it that far Matt!!

Yep, I recall reading somewhere in the owners manual that the diff will 'fail' to open upon any fault code. Its safe to drive.

I'd go straight to the dealership Monday and drop it off for a diag.
Your warranty will cover it fully, don't worry.

You could try disconnecting the battery to reset the computer and try it again. It may just be an electronic glitch...

Yeah, get the dealer to look at it. Possible problems: faulty G sensor, faulty solenoids in tranny, not getting good ABS tone signals from ABS system. (though I assume ABS light isn't on).

You weren't driving it hard at low speed on pavement with the diff locked were you?

Thanks again everybody for the help,
No the lock was never on ever and it was
never driven with lock on.It was driven once
at the dealership with the salesman with it in manual all the way open (least) at bottom of green display. Then I did it once with my dad on a dirt road drove slow in first gear thats it. I was thinking about disconnecting the battery too,but figure I might clear the fault codes for the mechanic to see also might look like I am trying to hide something!!
Thank you Matt kb3drf sti

Hey!

Was it you and your dad that picked up your car from Van Bortel about a month ago?

When I was there to pick-up my car one of the porters mentioned someone had come recnelty to pick-up and STI and that they were going to drive it home to "Dallas". I just noticed your location as "Dallas, PA".

Anyway, your Subaru warranty is good everywher ein the US at any dealer regardless of who you bought it from. Don't worry you'll be taken care of wherever you go.

Best of luck!
