STi boost guage question.
First of all, I did a search and didn't find the info I was looking for so maybe someone can help me out.
I'm not to crazy about the STi boost guage because it reads in bar instead of psi. Now, here is my problem. I know I want a boost guage so I can keep an eye on whats going on with my engine. Is the factory boost guage a good one, like is it accurate, and worth the $$$? I would like a guage that reads psi, so I am considering an aftermarket guage, but I'm not sue I want to deal with installing it myself and the chance that I screw it up and get improper readings. Can anybody give me the prices of some of their aftermarket guages, and some idea of how difficult they are to install yourself. Thanks for the help.

Save your money for an Autometer or something. The factory gauge is not worth that kind of money.
Call Bill at Prestige 1-888-854-4293 they use all of their gauges in autox situations. So, he should know if they read right and he can give you a good price. |

Yeah, save your money on the factory guage. It looks so damn cheap and not worth close to $297! You can get a high quality liquid filled guage that reads in PSI so no need to break out the calculator to convert. I don't understand why they would do that since the official specs on boost pressure was noted in PSI.

Thanks for the info, guys.
I suppose one of my concerns is that I will never "get around" to getting a aftermarket boost guage. By the time I have my STi, I will probably be back at college, and then I won't have time to buy and install guages on my car. So then I'm faced with going at least a year without a boost guage. I know it wouldn't be the end of the world, and my car would probably be fine for that time, but it would be nice to be able to keep an eye on my car's vitals, so I can get a good feel for it, and what sort of preasure, speed that it builds, etc. durring and after break in. This being my first turbo'ed car, I'm more currious than anything, I guess. I'm not too worried about the conversions, but I assume it would be important to make sure my boost readings are consistant, which is why I want some sort of indicator. I guess the biggest question is, is the boost guage accurate. I know its a ripoff on the price, but will it serve its function adaquately untill I can get a nicer one? While dropping nearly 300 on it, (or more i guess, with instalation) after I get a nice aftermarket one, I can sell it and recover some of the cost. Another thing is that while I'm not mechanicly retarded, I'm not exaclty the kind of person who enjoys spending much time under their hood, like some others do. Basicly: So with cost not being a huge issue, and saving myself some time, does the stock boost guage make an adequate temporary fix? Can anyone give me any idea of how long one miht take to install myself? Again thanks for the help, and sorry for my disorganized questions and ramblings. |

The factory boost guage does work.
And I do know that some have installed aftermarket boost guages only to end up with issues regarding whether the car was making the right amount of boost, or whether the guage was installed/reading incorrectly. so...... |
