Default USDM STi as cool as the new EVO is depressing.

I remember seeing the specs of the new EVO and being a little let down. the numbers were all a little lower than everyone was expecting. not way lower, but just decreased enough from JDM to get the "USDM de-tuned" feel. and with the simple VCD for a center diff... well that really ended it for me.

When I just read up on the new STi specs, I was actually getting tingles up my spine. they found a way to really give us something special that the other countries don't get. just like they did with the RS. we might not have all the bells and whistles, but at least they gave us some extra displacement to tide us over . the 2.5l engine... the 300 hp.... it's all above and beyond what they had to do. and AVCS?! it's about time . and to top it all off, they give us the one thing who's lack thereof in the EVO was what really stole it's special touch... the variable center diff.

I'm really excited to see this car. and it's not some Subaru loyalism.. it's a damn fine car all on it's own. but as a Subaru owner and enthusist, I really do think that it's everything the USDM STi should be.

Maybe now the Lancer EVO will step it up to compete. I wonder if the reason we (North America) are getting the 2.5 is because we seem to love torque, we are the birth place of the big block V8, and man, I have to admit I love getting my head snapped back into the back seat. Finally we will have a piece of the action, and hopefully the EVO will now take aim and at least step up to the plate. Oh man I am all excited.....peace

Exactly. When I was reading the specs, I got all goose pimpled and every plan I had for my RS (already modded quite a bit) went right out the window. All development plans for my RS are off!

I doubt that Mitsubishi will be able to do much about the Evo VIII performance now that they're released it's specs & pricing.

You gotta figure that once they send out a press release, the gears of industry are already turning. There's probably 1,000 US-Spec Lancer's that were already built when that press release came out. What are they gonna do, junk em?

You figure they might be able to sqeeze a few more HP out with some ECU tuning but how would the EPA react if they approve a car and then the manufacturer changes it's engine output?

Also remember that no manufacturer is gonna go through the pain of exciting potential customers with features and performance specs if it ain't gonna be US road legal. I'm sure these cars needed to be built, emissions tested & crash tested months before these press releases came out. Otherwise they would have to be concept cars.

Of course, this is just logic. I could be wrong

There is a reason ralliart is opening up shop in the US. Expect to see dealer available Ralliart tuned EVO VIII's. Then expect to see dealer available Prodive STi's.

Evo Zero Fighter or RS450 vs STi equivalent anyone?? I know I'd like to see it!!!

They could always stick them on a boat and sink it in the English chanell. Thats what BMW just did with 3000 of their cars.

I'm with all of you guys...but how can Mitsu compete with the H-4 2.5l? Do they have a proven, reliable, low-center of gravity(balanced) engine that can compete? They've gone ace-backwards in the Eclipses for god's sakes! 1G most reliable esp. for crankwalk and other engine probs IMO. (displacement can't be totally taken out of the picture...imagine the possibilities of this new-bred STI!)

Oh yeah...when was the last time you guys saw the US get a better model than the J-spec? Will Japan be IMPORTING for the N.A. or U.S. spec? LOL

This is so exciting! never before (In my mind anyway) have we seen such a competition in such a class of car that most of us love.

What fun!

I think the EVO has been OWN3D even before it's first race.
