Talking New PS2 game for all of you NESIC Trackwhores!

Picked up my copy of Codemaster's "Pro Race Driver" (yeah, I know, stupid name) today. I think this is the game to get for those of you trackwhores that have stayed home on Saturday and Sunday nights to watch all the Touring Car races on Speed.

Haven't driven too many cars yet, and the graphics is only so so, but there are close to 40 real-life race tracks from around the globe (mostly road courses, but a few ovals in the States). I believe it's the official, licensed, game for 3 series - the BTCC, DTM, and the Australian V8. Plenty of famous European tracks in the game. That aspect really makes it worth getting.

Been waiting for this to come out for the PC. It's two predecessors, TOCA and TOCA 2 were two of the most fun racing games I have played. Codemasters has a pretty good rep for racing games.

I saw that game and was thinking about it at one time. Maybe I can add that to my x-mas list and to my collection of GT 1, 2 & 3, SEGA GT, 2002 But, what I really want is this.

http://www.act-labs.com/race_combo3.htm

This is what I think every track whore needs when away from the track. Hopefully it's compatible w/ Sports Car GT, so I can race on LRP

I have this setup, it's very nice (especially after I got FF working on CMR2) Though I have heard that people in those *cough* nascar rings actully like the momo racing kit better, I forget who makes it, I am sure I could find out.

I am perfectly happy with the Act Labs

Are there any games out there that have NHIS on it with the full track not just the oval?

Not that I know of, I have been bugging some of my friends that are all into that 3d editing to make it for one of the nascar games or maybe TOCA/SCGT.

I guess if I wanted it done I would have to do it myself, but my max skills are pretty weak.

I wonder if any of the Bike games use it. One of these day I want to go and watche the bikes race there. I would love to watch them fly around the bowl.

Problem with NHIS or tracks like Summit Point is that they don't host a lot of professional races. Games are often licensed from those series, with the tracks associated with them.

hey Ray,

How does the game handle? Is it semi-realistic? I haven't really found a game that drives as well as GTA3.

I played the first series (Preparerd Diamond Star at Mexico City, Vancouver and Sears Point), and I think it feels too much like an arcade game than a real sim. I also just registered online to get a cheat code that supposedly makes the handling more realistic, but I haven't tried it yet.

I mentioned in the post in the OT forum that I was in full throttle all the way from Turn 7 at Sears Point to the hairpin. I've never been to that track, so maybe that's how it's run, but seems a little easy. (Or maybe I'm just GOOD! )

Another thing I don't like is that the brakes are super strong and super sensitive. I could outbrake every competitor, but the pedal (I'm using the Logitech GT wheel/pedal) is a bit hard to modulate.

Overall, I like the driving dynamics of GT3 much better, but this game has better AI competitors (and more of them - 8 cars on a track). But again, I think the tracks alone are worth it. I was driving A-1 Ring last night before watching the DTM race on Speed. Makes so much more sense! And the tracks are very realistic.

If your favorite TV shows of the week are on Sat, 9-11pm, this is YOUR GAME!

I've the Force RS and it's a nice wheel... only downside is that it only works with few PS2 games...
Anyone has the list of PS2 games that work w/ the wheel???

So Ray, this is what you do all day, huh? Probably a cool game, but I would have to get a PS2 first.

This game will work with the Logitech FF wheel on the PS2... sorta. Apparently if you pause the game mid-race the force-feedback effects go away for the remainder of the race, and lots of folks have been reporting problems with the wheel suddenly becoming woefully uncalibrated suddenly in the middle of the race.

In other words, don't buy this game just because it works with the wheel

Yeah, I've experienced some problem with the GT Force wheel too. Quickly unplug and replug the USB cable will get force feedback back; and I have some success re-centering the wheel by using the controller setup page. I hate bugs.

Yeah, I'm liking the game more and more. I got the "SIM" handling cheat code, and it helps a little bit. But what's nice about the handling is that it is quite sensitive to bumps on the road. The steering gets light (though a little too dramatic).

Also, there's racing in different condition, including rain, where you have to really increase the braking distance. Much more realistic than the "wet" circuits in GT3.
