2004 Car of the Year competitors?
Here's the list of cars that are new or are redesigned for 2004 with which the Impreza will compete for Car of the Year. How do you all think that we will fare? (list comes from Motor Trend future model forecast)
Acura TL Acura TSX (sport sedan based on Euro Accord) Audi A8 BMW 1 series BMW 5 series Cadillac XLR Chevrolet Malibu Chrysler Concorde Chrysler Crossfire Chrysler LX Chrysler 300N Chrysler Charger Dodge Neon (redesign based on Lancer) Jaguar XJ (2003 or 2004?) Lexus GS Lotus Elise Mazda RX-8 Mitsubishi Galant Mitsubishi Lancer EVO Nissan Maxima Pontiac Bonneville Pontiac Grand Prix Pontiac GTO Porsche 911 Scion cc SUBARU IMPREZA STI Volvo S40/V40 I don't know if there will be enough changes in the entire Impreza line to give it COY since there aren't enough STi's being produced for it to count on its own. I think the BMW 5 series gives me the most concern. Opinions?

Hopefully another car will take COY. The less press the STI gets, the better for us in terms of prices and availability, don't you think?

Car of the Year for which magazine? If we're talking Motor Trend, my vote goes to the GTO.

With more attention and awards, Subaru corporate sees that these are good moves in the US, so maybe SOA will get more good cars in the future. If there is the demand, SOA will sell them just like they sold more than were expected of the Impreza so far. The more they sell, the more profitable the company is to lower some prices (or at least not raise) and gives more $$$ for R&D. More sales means larger aftermarket and probably cheaper due to quantity being produced. win, win, win.

^^ I agree with PPower
As for COY... if Automobile magazine picked the WRX, it isn't a stretch to expect the STi to get many more accolades. |
