Dad will ask sometimes if I'm planning to get another car soon or what it wold be if I had to. He laughed hearing an Accord or Camry are my top two now instead of something half interesting from a manufacture or bastardized something I put together, getting/got old. I haven't done anything more involving than oil changes in a while and haven't had to assure Mrs. Lag the amount of blood dripping through the kitchen isn't a concern so long she doesn't hear a loud thud and I don't answer after that. win/win. Understanding firsthand the other side of buying cars from people with "no time to put into the car" is pretty upsetting though.

also need to figure out why the hazards are doing that, switch wasnt on but yet they were blinking out of order, and shouldnt have been on at all.

From one end of the bug spectrum to another.

Got the main wiring harness pulled, installed a new coil.

Ran the rear light harness, but need to change a couple things. Could not find a clip in my pile of parts so drivers taillight is not yet assembled.

While I wait on parts started the interior sound deadening, but also short so I need to go pick up another roll.

I'll swap the front door panels in a day or two, I've had quite enough. Today was focused just on getting it back driveable.

I think my plan is to keep the front seats beige for a minute as my red ones aren't heated and have a couple of seams popping. Will get new red covers for my beige seats and do that in the spring while the red ones are in when I won't need the heaters.

I have a few more parts that I need to accumulate for the headliner portion of this project, then it'll be pulling that out and having it and my pillar trim covered in suede.

Less exciting but the valve cover is going back for re-painting. It got a new valve cover gasket and spark plug gaskets last time, this time I'm including a new PCV valve and grommet.

I need to see if anyone here wants to trade a stock cam cover for this clear one. I should take this opportunity to ditch the purple hardware from the prior owner as well, but I don't see where I'd get easy replacement bolts without online shopping. Bleh.

Keeping the volcanic ash out of the valvetrain. Ugly blueish/purplish paint stripped from the strut tower bar. There's still some on the engine/tranny mounts but they're mostly hidden. Future item to fix.

Oh, and I finally got a peek at the OEM wheels. Just a peek but they look to be in pretty good shape. I'm not sure if they'll even need a refurbish but I'll need a proper inspection. Glad they still have the original decals and center caps. The replacements I've found on eBay and the like are close and look legit at first glance but any side by side comparison and you can see differences in font and whatnot.

You must be getting really excited. That thing seems like it's getting really close.

For me, today is wet sand engine bay day. Yeah lots of "Ohhh, glorious sanding".

Nah it's got bit to go. I've pulled the harness, wired a bit of the engine. I just picked up the wheels and rather than risk them getting damaged had the tires mounted.

Yup the cars run, all controlled by an arduino. Hoping to finish the beauty panels and get it all buttoned up soon.

I need to get my Vanagon out of the garage. I keep adding upgrades without actually fixing the issues keeping it from running and driving properly. Tonight I installed something called the Big Shot shifter which replaces some of the shift linkage that's prone to breaking. Tomorrow I'll be installing the seats out of a Town & Country that are a massive upgrade, along with bleeding the brakes since the rears are all new and there's SS braided lines all around. As soon as I finish replacing all the old rubber fuel lines in the engine bay, I should be able to at least drive it around the block again. Then maybe I'll deal with the crunchy 1st and 3rd gear shifts.

I plan on doing a budget big brake install this weekend since my brakes are so visible now with the wheels that I got back in November. 330i calipers and brackets bolt right up and the rotors are much larger. Doing drilled/slotted rotors and braided lines too, along with a badly needed fluid flush that has been on my to-do list for several years. Will post pics after.

Sounds like the typical Subaru upgrade. Easy peasy so long as rust isn't involved.

Bimmer. OT don't Subaru.

This car is an AZ car, I dealt with the only rust on it when I had to replace the header to head pipe bolts a few years ago.

I've got the install pretty much done, stopped for something to eat before I go back out and flush and bleed the system.

Crusty tiny stock brakes. The rears look particularly pitiful.

Stock front and a test fit of the new stuff to make sure that there wouldn't be any problems.

Test fitting the rear revealed that the 325i backing plate wasn't going to work with the much larger rotors. Made quick work of that problem with a cutting wheel on the grinder though.

I guess that I neglected to take pictures of the finished product, just these from the test fit, hence the anti-rattle clips missing.

If you're paying attention, I apparently wasn't, you'll notice that those last two pictures are the same side of the car and the slots on the rotors are going in different directions. Yeah, I didn't notice that they were handed until I'd nearly finished bleeding the system and was pretty tired. I'll have to swap the rear rotors side to side later, but in the meantime I'm much happier with the looks!

I've never worked on a car that doesn't have lug nuts. Are those bolts a pain in the ass to thread in or does the hub hang the rims pretty well?

My VW has lug bolts on the front(and lug nuts/studs in the rear, oddly) and the wheel just slips on and is supported by the center bore. No more difficult than putting one on with studs.

Speaking of the van though, my seat brackets arrived today so I got those in and positioned the shifter adjusted for the new position. Way more comfortable than the old, stock seats. Seating surface is lower, fold down armrests are higher, and they fold flat.

Yeah, it's a German thing and you get used to it. It pretty much makes the rotor retaining screw mandatory whereas with other cars you pitch them the first time that you change rotors because they're useless.

Weird that your van has studs in the rear, were they maybe added by someone?

Nice! Swivel bases by chance?
