CO emissions isn’t Subaru’s problem as much as NO emissions. Until they can get the NO straightened out they are a no-show in Europe. I am surprised NO is not a problem in Japan. Maybe the tunning around NO in Japan is why our tunes are crap

Peace,

Greg

levorg would be here by now if they really wanted to market it in the U.S. They already have a selection of hatches in the lineup. Impreza, Forester, Crosstrek, Outback(off road), etc....why would they bring another hatch? Is the entire lineup supposed to be hatch designs? LOL

Sport hatches in general are still a tiny part of the performance market..especially so in the U.S. High performance Sedans and Coupes are where the demand is.

I could however see an electric levorg coming here in 2024-2025 assuming it hasnt gotten old in the tooth by then and dropped.

The STI and WRX are Subaru's bread and butter high demand performance offerings. I think the trend will be that they continue evolving the sedan platform for these models well into the 2020's.

if the STI is indeed being delayed a year, does that year delay give subaru the time they need to add an automatic to the STI. and I remember that article. it talked the possibility of adding an automatic to the STI when they hybridize it. that makes sense since a hybrid manual would be very complicated for subaru to pull off

So is derphawk still going on about a DCT mild hybrid in the next gen, or is he assuming we’ve all forgotten how he wouldn’t let up on that?

I don't see it getting a dct, a 6 or 7 speed auto is more viable. but subaru is trying hard to keep the STI going in the lineup, but most of subarus AWD lineup hurts the overall fuel efficiency of the brand as a whole. they are in a corner but we are able to sell cars like the wrx and brz here thanks to the plugin hybrid. the new solterra will allow us to sell the STI in the states. they don't want to stop being able to sell their sports cars and they are holding on to their manuals for as long as possible. at least they are trying

Agree with all of this. I think they will offer the manual 6 speed for 3-4 more years. This transmission never came anywhere near close to its durability limits from 2004 to 2021 in the STI, I think the engineers want to keep this transmission because it can handle literally ANY power level they want to bring to the STI platform over the next 3-4 years. 395 horsepower is an easy target for the 2.4 FA when reworked for it. If it gets better mileage than the current STI and maybe even the smaller engined WRX out right now..even if its marginally better, it is a step in the right direction and will allow them to offer the all ICE engine version of these cars just a little longer before the rest of the industry is going electric in 2025 and increasing their mileage capabilities across their fleets. I think after that though the STI is going to be electric hybrid making close to 500 horsepower or more. They could also most likely keep the 6 speed by converting it to Sequential manual hydraulic electronic automatic modes.

How about $40k for a CVT WRX hybrid that's maybe slightly faster and gets +2 MPG? No, not that either? Probably why we won't see anything.

It's not like Subaru is unable to tune their gee wiz super special S209 to run on CA gas. With a track record like that, what could go wrong?

It sounds like it may be coming soon. I may be interested in a Subaru again.

Possibly the most thorough review of the final VA STI?

EJ25 era is over. It had a good run. Time to move on, make way for the FA24.

I left the Subaru brand after my stock GR STi had a ringland failure at 135k after a life on Shell 93oct, but I do miss the "analog" visceral experience of that car.

Ugly wheel cladding and big plastic butt aside, I find myself interested in what the FA24 STi will be like. A solid motor and old school visceral experience might be a winner in this age of numb digital everything.

Man I really do miss the sound of this old EJ25. Not a model of efficiency but damn if that exhaust note is not immediately recognizable. I miss driving my hawk-eye STI. Car will always have a place in my heart.

Ha. We can dream, right?
That being said I've been more and more curious about the reality of this awd GR Corolla on the horizon for the states running the GR Yaris drivetrain..
