Default Popping off/Taking off STI 6spd Shifter Knob?

I’m just thinking outside the box
In the “olden days” we used to take off our grille emblems, sand the stock black paint off from the inside, then paint color you want.

Searched.......nothing fruitful

Has anyone taken off the “cap” of the shift knob?

Epoxied on there?
Would surely be destroyed if attempting
Lmk
Thanks

On the 06 I have it pops right off. There is a friction fit. Mine wobbled slightly and was ugly. If I don't know where my gear are I have bigger problems.Unless you mean separating the inner shift pattern from the outer plastic ring. In that case I don't think it would work.

I just did this to my 2015 WRX. After unscrewing (removing) the shift knob, the top can be popped off. I used to long skinny screw drivers to pinch the plastic "connector" from the inside of the knob and it popped right off. I was worried about ruining it, but it came off surprisingly easy.

mine popped off...glued it back on lol, i think a new knob would be more pliable so you dont have to worry about it breaking
