Out of the whole job that was the only pain in the ass part for me. The having to reinstall the bumper 3 times I'll blame on the beer I was consuming during the install. LOL

That's great - yeah, lining up the corners of the bumpers was a pain for me until I figured out the proper ordering.

It gets easier if you've done it a few dozen times***128514;***128514; One trick I've found is if you push up from the bottom with your foot the clips pop in a heck of a lot easier.

Hey Andrew,

As you're aware the base/premium has different headlights than limited/STIs.
The new cars dont have swappable headlights as the connectors on the back of the headlights are different. But, my thought is, could that harness be traced back further to see if at some point they have a compatible connector? Perhaps at the firewall?

I'm only bringing this up because you seem to be the guy that has the most resources available to you (cars in different trims) to potentially find a solution, and perhaps you already know from the digging you've already done. Don't mean to derail this thread. As a premium with PP owner and future owner of the front view monitor, i appreciate it.

Hey man! The plan for the Base/Premium trim cars is to T-off behind the MFD display and run the camera wires through the firewall. I just haven't been able to locate a car near me to prototype on yet. As soon as I can test it I will have a writeup and install pics up. If you happen to be in or around Ohio shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out.

Not derailing at all, any discussion related to the front camera is welcome here!

Having had this installed for several weeks now I can say its about as useless as I expected in the winter. One car in front of you on a wet road once sand/dirt is applied and its coated.

Yeah I never really got intrigued when I saw this feature. I get frustrated enough with an unprotected rear camera that gets filthy, a front facing one would drive me nuts.

I've been thinking about installing this on my 18 limited. My main purpose would be for making sure I don't curb my front bumper onto parking blocks if I decide to put on lowering springs. Would this prevent that from happening or would that still be hard to gauge the distance?

That's exactly what I use mine for. When I come up to the parking space, I press the button and it switches to the camera so I no longer have to worry about hitting the curb. It's money!

Hey everyone! I'm finally back after some hectic times at work and dealing with the headache of my transmission going out. Working on responding to all of your PMs now, my apologies for the delay.

Interested as well. 18 Limited STi if that matters. Is the knockout for the front camera included for all current US models?

Can anyone tell me how many wires the oem Subaru front camera has? From what I can tell it's 4 wires. I'm thinking of trying this with an off the shelf backup camera but they only come with 2 wires, what could the other 2 wires be used for?

All 2018+ grilles have the camera knockout, take a close look at yours and you'll see it. The did a pretty good job disguising it though.

The OEM camera uses 4 wires. Two are for the video signal (V+ and V-), the other two are for power (+6v and ground). Any universal cam will work, but most use 12v which requires you to power it externally as the display only puts out 6v. You'll also need to ground the camera power ground wire as the display uses it to detect the presence of a camera.
