Ok so I'm new to this forum, and to the subie life. I just bought a 2009 Subaru impreza 2.5i 4 door 5 speed manual. It has a rod knock. So my options are, from what I've found this far, get the original 2.5i(EJ25) $1799or the 2.0L(EJ20) $750 because it's a direct fit and $1k cheaper.<not sure how true this is.
So what I need to know, because I'll be swapping this weekend, is if the EJ20 is actually a direct fit? And since I'm taking the motor out if changing the clutch kit would be a good idea and would I only have to remove the engine to do so?
I need help guys, I'm very mechanically inclined but never worked on a Subaru. PLEASE HELP! ASAP

Has anyone done any engine swaps? Or can someone point me in the right direction? Please

Thanks.

I wonder the same thing! My headlights are positioned horribly in the vertical position (to my own doing). I don't know if you can adjust them horizontally.

Default 09 OBS Muffler Swap

Looking to get a new muffler installed on my 09 OBS. Got my eye on magnaflow 11255 and 12255. Only real difference is size..does anyone think the larger one would be too quiet? stock muffler is rather big even compared to it and thinking 11255 would be too loud

It's hard to know what is "too quiet" or "too loud" for you. Best bet would be to try youtube and see what/if others have done, though the audio is usually ****. I have a Borla CBE and love it. It's very mellow with no raspiness or drone.

Did you find out? I bought a car from copart that has a bad head gasket and so I just pulled it out over the weekend.

A couple of you had ask for a link on a lip and sideskirt kit I had purchased awhile back. Unfortunately I don't have a link for it or can find it. I had ordered from a shop in Japan. Here is a link on a different lip.

I had an ‘08 Legacy with the NA 2.5 (EJ253) my favorite car I owned. Paid $600 becuase it had a very minor bead gasket problem. I ended up buying a crate short block from Subaru and put the Subaru MLS head gaskets in it and fixed anything else while I was there. Cost $5,500. I put 3,000 miles on the new engine and fell asleep and totaled the car in a ditch (luckily the engine was in perfect condition).
So I found a base model ‘09 Impreza with the same EJ253 and the same 5MT and I’m in the process on swapping it, and on upgrading some still, like a lightweight crank pulley, a pitch stop mount, alternator pulley, oil fill cap, it already has adjustable coilovers, thinking about some sway bars, gonna get a pulley cover and a rediator shroud a tow hook and a short throw shifter and shift knob, a rad hose kit, and maybe a lightweight battery tiedown. All are from Perrin except the red hoses and battery tiedown with are Grimm, and all colors are red. Considering getting a stage 2 full faced clutch, just not sure what brand. Already has exhaust and CAI. Was wondering if they’re any other affordable upgrades I should try for before I put the brand new engine in the Impreza. I REALLY was sole UEL headers but they seem to be around $700. Once the blown exgine comes out of the Impreza it’s going on my engine stand and getting town down and I’m going to upgrade internals on that one and make it boost ready. But I’d like a fun car in the meantime

Default Looking at a 2008 Impreza 2.5i hatch

Hello,

I'm new here. Looking at a 2008 Impreza 2.5i hatchback with 5 speed manual, 130k miles. The dealer wants $6000.

I have never owned a Subaru before, and I'm curious if this is a good model / price? It is AWD, which might be handy as I live in South Dakota. Does the engine have problems?

How about the timing belt? Does this need replacing every 60k miles? Is it DIY friendly, or is it a $1,300 deal like on my wife's pilot?

Not sure if anyone still reads this.. I still have my '09 5 speed sedan.

Was wondering if anyone has ever run 215-55-16 tires.

I have 17x8 Bremmer kraft BR05 wheels with 225-45-17 tires and no issues.

Want to go to a 16x7 Sparco Terra with 215-55-16 for some more sidewall and much lower weight and higher quality wheels. Stock is 205-55-16 but want some more sidewall than that.

17" wheel height now is 25". With the 215-55-16 is would be about 25.4".
Stock is 23.9" apparently. Seems like it'll work but wondered if anyone has run 215-55-16. I searched but it's hard to come up with search terms that work.

Thinking of getting the dark bronze color. Gray looks cool too.I don't know how to post pics here anymore but I'll try.

Bronze might be pretty cool. Gonna just go with stock tire size on the 16x7 Terras I think. 212-55-16 will probably be too much tire and might feel squirmy. Maybe Subaru knew what they were doing with the tire size after all.

A few more years and this car will be a classic.

They weigh exactly the same. Thought the smaller Sparcos would weigh a lot less. These ride so much nicer, will be better in the snow too.
