Brake update:
Type RA calipers ordered! Thanks for the hook up Lancaster!
Going to be waiting for Black Friday sales to place my order for rotors. I’ll be running DBA 5000 series two piece front rotors. And DBA 4000 series rear rotors.
This complete setup is about $2k less than the Brembo GT kits front and rear, and will allow the use of dust shields without fitment issues of any dust boots or aftermarket tie rods. I’m pretty stoked. They’re definitely my favorite brakes that have ever come from the factory. Always nice to have an OEM+ option. The STI just keeps getting better and better from Subaru with every revision they do. It’s nice the upgrades like 18+ brakes and 15+ steering rack bolt right up.

I do love the Brembo Gran Turismo kit, but realistically for what I use my car for, I’ll never overdrive the Type RA brakes. This car will never see a track day. Just some fun spirited driving.

Hoping to hear from R/T Tuning this week that I can pick my car up. They’re just waiting on the revised intake pipe to come back from the powder coater.

if it will never see a track day why upgrade the brakes? the oem sti bbs will do plenty for street driving. even if extremely spirited.

My car will be due for rotors and pads to pass PA state inspection in February. And the brake lines are a recall item on these cars. So they’ll be swapped out too when I go in for inspection. I want to upgrade the rotors to two piece to save some weight where I can. I really don’t love the black Brembos since you can hardly see them in shadow. Albeit they’re worlds better than the gold Brembos IMO as far as flowing with my color theme. When I did the Brembo swap on my ‘09 WRX, I rebuilt the calipers I bought used and had them powder coated silver. Between the rebuild kit, the cost of powder coating and the fact that the black Brembo calipers on my car are in incredible shape and bring good money for those wanted to upgrade or replace their worn out calipers, it’s not a crazy amount more to pay the difference for the Type RA calipers.

Lol. I knew you were eyeing it yourself as well. Sorry to beat you to the punch homie. I love the silver. Only bummer is the front calipers are on backorder. ETA late December. Let the waiting game begin. Story of my life.

I overlaid my stock dyno plot overtop my rotated setup to get a sense of how the two compare:

First e85 fill up:

Definitely uses more fuel on e85. But the lower price breaks it even in cost. Just filling up more. Also, I learned as I was taking this pic last night that this super Wawa (super Wawa’s are Wawa convenient stores with gas stations) is a meeting spot for the “Philly races.” I had two younger guys come up and ask me about my car and build while I was taking this pic. We chatted for a bit. They asked me if I’m going down [to the races] tonight. I said I don’t go to the races. As I was leaving the gas station, I passed half a dozen to a dozen tuner cars that were backed into their spots like a car show in the side parking lot of Wawa. This was at 10pm on a Saturday. My understanding is the races go well into the night. I was torn with just going home or parking and checking out some of the cars. But I opted to just go home.

Matt,
Do you know what you are running for base fuel pressure? And what max IDC your seeing?

I ask because I'm planning to tune with an E70 blend in the summer, and I was on the fence about replacing my ID1300x with 1700s. But based on the performance of your setup, I might get close to my goals with the current injectors.

Agreed. I’ve missed every Cars & Coffee literally ever. Never been to one. But I think at 36, that’s more my speed. Not worth the risk even by association to be around the Philly racing crowd.

I’ll try and get you that info. Still need to play around with my AccessPORT to determine what I want to monitor now.

Leaning towards the ACT MOD-TWIN clutch that just came out last week. Lancaster has been waiting for the release of that thing for over a year. So I’m seeing it as a sign it just released last week.

Anyone else running something with stock like pedal pressure?

I loved the Southbend Stage 3 Daily and am kinda devastated it isn’t enough for this setup.

glad I didn't swap to that clutch then

I am running a Comp MPC that has stock like pedal and holds 750wtq. The downside is the 1st engagement is like a light switch, so it takes a bit to get used to.

ohhhhhhh that's nice. i may have to be looking into those act twin disc myself. I have an act currently. is the HD clutch iirc. supposedly holds something like 515ft lbs. it's definitley heavier than stock but is easily drive-able. i dont mind the heavyness of it. but i daily drove it for like 2 years and now have it on a built motor for another 3. so ACT as a brand i'm sold on.

also i didnt consider that with the brakes, but that does make sense.

NA STI was running the Southbend Stage 3 daily with this same setup and it help fine until he started launching at the 1/4mi track. He said it was his favorite of all the clutches he tried but couldn’t handle the launches. So I really thought I was gonna be fine with it since I don’t beat on my car.

Ah that does sound promising going with ACT.

I have R/T contacting Turn 14 to see if we can get our hands on this clutch to give it a try. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Here’s some engine bay shots. I loosely placed the Password JDM battery cover and fuse box cover on the car. The power steering/Abs cover is going to require the intake tube to be removed to put the cover on and then the intake tube can go back in. The cover miiiight need to be trimmed, but so be it if it comes down to that. All three pieces should be fully cured by December 10th and then they can be permanently installed.
