Question EJ253 longblock with EJ251 intake manifold

I have an 02 outback that I put my EJ253 long block into to use with its EJ251 intake manifold, engine wiring, and interior wiring, but am now getting the P0340 cel and will not let it start. I also had a crank sensor cel pop up before as well but hasn't come back after clearing it. I could crank it all day long, but I believe the cam sensor not being read correctly is disabling the ignition system. The sensor is totally fine as well. I already opened up the intake manifold harness to look into the ground wiring that connects the two with the knock sensor but seems to be fine as well.

This ones got me ridiculously stumped and I am begging for any help at all before I give up on it and lose a good amount money on the car.

How do the cam and crank position triggers on the new long block compare to the old long block?

what patrick has said, yes you tossed in the 253, but did you swap over the crank gear/sensor and the cam gears/cam sensors from the original 251? that will more than likely be the issue

I actually had some local guys say the exact same thing sooner and . . . yes, that was the issue! I didn't even think about how the crank sprocket had a different tooth pattern on the backside.
But now I've got a cooling issue from hell to deal with.

Were you ever able to figure this out? I've read multiple places that an EJ253 block will cause interference with EJ251 heads.

What year EJ253 did you use?
