Yeah, sounds like pressure plate isn't getting fully disengaged. If you're sure the slave cylinder has full travel, then it's something with the fork, throw out bearing or pressure plate itself. Did you go all OEM for those?

I didnt replace the fork, as I didnt feel it was needed. As for the tob, it came with the clutch kit (x clutch stage 2, 6 puck street clutch)

I've always been told to replace the fork as they can crack, get a new spring too. Maybe the new pressure plate was too much for it. I know it sucks, but you're probably going to have to check it, they're only about $35 together.

On a side note, where did you get your ej20x from?

Default It runs!

I had my 2012 hatch blow twice in one year and after the second one the dealership wouldn’t have the cost of the repairs so I saw this thread and I based the whole build on this guys information, I have no experience in any of this but I did it back in May 2020 and I haven’t had a single issue it runs great and I’ve put 6k miles on the swap and it’s still running strong. Highly recommend this swap. Also Pacific imports (PIA) here in Washington will tell you anything you need to know and sells a tune specifically for it for 100$ I believe.

As long as you have a cat and is tuned, you'll be fine. Washington doesn't do smog testing anymore so we just renew our tabs every year without inspection anymore.

Not really. 05-12 (I think) can go in without much trouble. Our ej20x/y shortblocks are open deck so we cant really build up to 350 hp without spending a **** ton of money. It'll be better in the long run if you start with a semi-closed blocks, 255,257, 205 (Some), & 207 (Some). Infront in Auburn, WA & Drive Auto in Everett, WA advises to use the semi-closed deck motors if you want to go the performance route. My ej20x currently probably has 300-310hp and I'm not going to test the limits on the open deck.

So i am trying to do the swab and I found the engines that come from japan that replace the EJ25 Turbo but I was just wondering if this link for this engine on sale is the one you guys are swabbing into your wrx turbo.

That's an EJ20X with a twin scroll turbo so you'll either need a compatible downpipe or weld on a compatible flange. The turbo>intercooler connection won't fit up and the intake might need to be swapped as well. You also should consider swapping out the exhaust cams.

I swapped one of these exact motors into a 2009 WRX, but I had donor parts from a blown EJ255 so I just swapped the exhaust, up-pipe, turbo and intake and basically converted the EJ20X to a EJ255.

Have a Nice Day? 2010 WRX JDM Swap??

I have a 2010 WRX Wagon. Bought it as a project for my son. I am looking to also do the jdm engine swap; from iwire, mine has a single AVCS and it seems like all the JDM imports EJ20x are all dual AVCS's. I have done some reseach and it seems most people just dont use the exhaust side hookup when they do the swap. Saw some YOUTUBE videos as well, some of those show the swap done somewhat quickly, maybe 8 hrs. while just replacing some of the parts but not all of them. Currently on the fence about which direction, rebuild or replace.

I would stick with the EJ25 that the car came with. You can rebuild or get a new OEM one for a reasonable price. Really depends on what direction you want to take the car. But there is no, zero, zilch advantage to getting an EJ20x/y to replace the OEM engine with.

I recently completed this swap on a 2009 WRX. I bought an ej20x with about 40k miles on it for $1300 and I was able to sell off the old long block and twin scroll stuff that came with it. Way cheaper than a used ej255, a rebuild, or a new shortblock swapped in. Used my VF52 and stock downpipe. Tune will cost $400.

The first time you do this swap it can take a while, but it's all pretty straight forward and there is a lot of documentation online on how to do it. Just take it slow and think it through.

Agree that you don't want to really push these beyond 300hp but that's enough for me and my daily driver.

^^^ agreed, I have a 11 WRX with a ej20 and she’s run fine as a daily for me the past year with little minor problems like a thermostat replacement and some tie rods.

Why did you need a tune? Others above saying they didn't?
