what's up guys,
so my mattress sucks, and... I mean it, it fckn sucks

I wanna buy a new mattress and through old one from the window rn.
My budget is around $500-600, and I'm looking for a queen size one.
Bumped into this article but I don't know any brand from the list. Anyway, it's probably some amazon bull**** that I'm not gonna purchase online. Still, I'd like to look for a good one first, and then go to the store and try it, so I save my time at the store.
Any good options for a Q-mattress $500-600 in 2021? Or should I look for those mentioned before?

Also, is it a good idea to look for a second-hand mattress?

a second-hand mattress is like a second-hand condom: full of joy others had with it

Walk all the stores. I paid about that at Macy's, upper floor furniture in the discount section, extra discount and free delivery for getting a Macy's card.

Last year we bought a Beauty Rest black King for over 3k for our bedroom.

We also bought a Serta midrange at Sams Club (Euro something, I think) for about $500. I actually sleep better in the Serta. I think it is worth a look.

Had the purple 3 for about a month. Love it. Wife complained a bit at the beginning about being cold but seems to have adapted. And my back has felt great.

Kinda mattress related...anyone have recommendations for cooling bedsheets? The GF and I both sleep hot and even with the AC on, we've still been waking up sweaty lately. Currently just using some cheap-o sheets from Target which probably isn't helping.

I prefer percale sheets for a cooler feeling experience (unless you have a bed like a Purple where it'll hinder the mattress working as it should)

The rayon (bamboo) sheets we use on our Purple also sleep pretty cool.

What's a good set of bamboo sheets? Looking through Amazon, and all off-brands, many claiming 100% bamboo, yet reviews claim they're not really.

edit: Just ordered some by Tafts.

I like the HotelSheetsDirect brand on amazon. They are nice and thick and cool, and super soft.

Look into this product. My friend got one and it was one of those “don’t know how I lived without one”

Interesting...but kinda ugly and unsightly. My bed frame has storage drawers underneath so I can't hide it under the bed. I'll keep it in mind though if I try some new sheets and still find myself too hot.

I just ordered a set of these last night. 100% bamboo (or so they claim) and the price is decent.

Does anyone have that "Select Number" bed?
Thinking we'd need something like that as the wife and I prefer different bed types.
Current bed was nice but seems worn down

They also make conventional mattresses that have two different sides.

Several people have Purple. Search this thread.

I'm probably going with a Sleep Number, as wife and I sleep quite differently.

I have a Purple 3 and love it. My back has been much better since. It does sleep cooler, which my wife initially complained about but seems to have gotten used to it.

I have one going on 5 years old and no sign of sagging, low spots, etc. Not sure if its an original or a 2. It's still very comfortable and I have not noticed any significant change in how it feels over the years. It's cooler temp than the two other foam matteress we have tried. The first one was a Serta sister brand something with gel foam and it felt cool enough but lost some shape/support after a couple years. The tuft&needle that we tried after that was way too hot, even after 20 minutes it started feeling hot.

Thread necromancy time.

My wife and I bought a new mattress and base about 2 years ago and we hate the mattress. It's way too soft and already has a hump in the middle. It also seems to take it's toll on our backs every morning. I may pursue a warranty claim, but I doubt that will go anywhere.

Anyway, another room in our house has Simmons mattress and box spring in it that is about 12 years old, and we have been sleeping on it the last couple of nights. Its firm, and it has made a world of difference in how we feel in the morning. We notice the same things when we travel. Much more comfortable and our backs feel much better in the morning.

As best I can tell since there is no tag on it, the Simmons is a hybrid with basic foam on top and springs in the middle. The closest I can find from Simmons now is a firm memory foam or the hybrid medium firmness mattress. Both are pretty cheap and have a 100 night return/exchange policy.

Turns out what I have is a Simmons NXG 100 Firm Mattress.

Does anyone here have a Simmons Firm Memory Foam or Simmons Medium Hybrid or foam? How do you like them?

The firm foam mattress I was looking at via Simmons are even less than that, $499, slightly more for the hybrid medium. We are done spending a fortune on mattresses. The one we have and hate was ~$2700. The one we love in the other room was $1300 and included the box spring. Just wish it was a king.

I did initiate a warranty claim for the current mattress. Apparently if there is 1.5" or more of sag, it will qualify for a warranty refund up to the full value.

We had the warranty claim eval last Thursday and should expect a decision this week. The guy who did the inspection said he found several low spots, but doubted it met the criteria to get a refund or replacement.

With that in mind we bought a Nectar Foam Mattress, but it's not specifically billed as firm. So we'll see. I did get it with the "CoolTechnology" because I am a hot sleeper. Our first night on it will be tonight. It was $1080 all in delivered and included some freebies with it. It comes with a 365 night trial period, and can't be returned until at least 30 days. Our plan is to sleep on the Nectar and see if we notice any difference in our sleep and back pains. If so, and if they say no on the warranty claim, we'll keep the Nectar, but if we see no difference, we'll send the Nectar back and go back to the old mattress. If they approve the warranty claim we'll pick a new mattress and send the Nectar back in 30 days.

We ditched our 4/5 year Purple 3 queen bed last week. It was replaced with a Purple 3 Premier split king with adjustable bases. We tried some other mattress types, but I have grown accustomed to the way the Purple beds feel and prefer it to any other type. We definitely had to make some changes to the furnishings in our small bedroom to accommodate the larger bed but, holy crap, it's been so worth it.
