update:

ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE IN DFW THAT CAN REBUILD MY DAMPER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

SO these are pretty much my options....

1. my shop/tuner wasts $500 for swap all 4 corners with the old suspension.
2. overnight a new strut from tein in CA ($400) and have it installed ($300). id do it myself but its cold outside ppl....
3. screw it and drive 500miles back to school (jackson, MS) and figure something between now and May.

The answer is pretty easy

1: don't overnight strut, ship regular cheap method
1b: drive on blown damper for the time being, no big deal
2: wait for a warm afternoon
3: install in like 8.5 min

Keep in mind you dont need the whole strut, you should be able to buy the damper for a couple hundred somewhere....

There is a huge difference between a leaking strut and a blown strut. Most struts will leak slightly in various places, no matter how old/new they are. I no longer use Koni struts because they leaked severely in the 6 cars I used them on. BUT according to Koni the leak did not affect operation of the strut, and unless you are a chassis dynamics engineer or a great driver, you may not be able to really "tell" that a strut is blown. The only way to know is to remove it and put it on a shock dyno....costs $25-$50 each. Most major cities have a race shop that can perform this duty, you just need to search around.

Tein does their rebuilds in California (a friend of mine works there), they used to do it in Japan only. Unless the strut is clunking severely (after you have removed it from the car AND retightened all of the hardware), is dumping oil out of the shaft seal or a cannister puncture, or the rebound adjuster does not have any apparent change in performance (but you may not be able to see that unless it's on a shock dyno), then don't worry about a little leak. You do want a little bit of oil on the shaft for normal operation, you just don't want it dumping out the shaft seal or cap crimps.

PS-- I know what I'm talking about. hahaha
