Thank you. The fronts are Bakemono plates, I think they stopped making them quite a while back though. I really like their design, not sure why they stopped making them or why no one has ripped off the design and made similar ones yet. The rears are just fortune auto ones that I took a grinder to.

Well if you ever have them off the car again and want to scan one with a 6" ruler next to it, I'll be happy to rip the design off.

I'm sure one day my 04 wagon would love a set.

Today I swapped out my whiteline offset poly front control arm lower inner rear bushings with some pillow ball ones.

In theory, I'll miss the little bit of anti lift that the whiteline's provided, but I'm liking the idea of even better feel and the pillow balls not adding any resistance to normal suspension travel like normal bushings do.

Default Don't gimme no lip

I picked up a front lip for cheap a while back, but then sort of forgot about it. I finally put it on, painfully easy install and looks better than I expected, not sure why I delayed putting it on.





The eventual plan is to put together a proper SM legal splitter and adjust the lip to fill in the gap.

Default Steering lock

The only slight post install complication that I've had thus far with the wisefab knuckles is that with the increased steering ratio my lock out is well beyond the point of rubbing. To avoid this, I threw in some simple steering rack lock limiting spacers. I have narrow winter wheels on right now, so took an educated guess as to where I wanted things to stop, might need to revisit this idea again later once things warm up and the 275s are back on.

They intentionally add ratio due to the distance of where the tie rod connects to the knuckle being closer to the center line of the knuckle than the connection on the stock knuckles was.

I didn't measure how much of a difference it made and all wisefab says is "Steering ratio is slightly quicker compared to OEM", but with my winter wheels on it went from not rubbing at all to rubbing the frame with roughly 1/4 of steering wheel turn away from the normal rack lock point.

Interesting, did it seem like it added weight to the steering as well with decreased leverage? Do you have the stock 16.1:1 rack or have you put something quicker in as well?

I'd like to pick up a set of these knuckles just for the roll center correction, but I'm not sure I want a much quicker ratio than my current 13:1, though with added weight it might be more manageable.

Yeah, I'm just on the stock 02 rack, it did add a little extra steering weight. I don't have a good way of quantifying it, it was noticeable but not substantial.

Default Tiny bit more camber

I've been itching for a bit more camber (was previously limited at 2.75 degrees). I was tempted to, but chickened out on hacking up my Bakemono camber plates, so I dug out some old fortune auto plates, and hit them with a drill and the old faithful die grinder:





I [for now] chickened out on cutting in to the top of the strut tower, partially because I'd rather be shifted back at least a cm for more caster before doing anything permanent:



They've got another cm or two of meat left so I might take things further later, or might go a completely different direction to try to get some caster back.

On a side note / observation, it was very clear just how much more freely the suspension travels now with the pillow ball lower inner rear bushings than with the old poly ones, the only noticeable resistance was from gravity.

Default Big pump / hydromat

I finally installed my Walbro 450LPH (F90000267) w/ hydromat, after sitting on it for about a year. As others have mentioned in various threads, the hanger needed a little modification to fit the 450, but it mostly went smoothly with the help of a few chemically stable ties.




While I was at it, I used a "Wire-Thru" bulkhead fitting to run 10ga tefzel wire all the way to the pump's connector.




Went a little more overkill on the service connector than I intended.




Luckily it's not quite too big to tuck in out of the way on the side.



Hopefully I can wrap up other project soon to put this all to use.

Awesome build. Do you have a link to get that wire thru bulkhead fitting for the fuel pump harness? Have u filled the tank to see if the fitting leaks in between where the wire passes through? Did you have to cut and shorten the metal pipe that the fuel line feeds from the fuel pump when installing the 450?

Summit and many other places carry them, the one I got is the "ATL CFD-504", google for that and you'll find many options.

Not yet, I'm in the middle of wiring in my standalone ECU and I have an issue with the fuel line connector, waiting for a new one to arrive. Hopefully I will this weekend.

People use these on fuel cells all the time though, so I'm not too worried about it.

Yes, I had to chop about half an inch off to make it fit, then carefully made sure that the edge was very smooth with no metal shavings were floating around anywhere.

Default Break out the duct tape...

In the process of modifying my fuel pump hanger and installing the walbro 450 last week, I clumsily tweaked the quick connector on the oem high pressure fuel line and then made things worse trying to force it on such that it wasn't fixable. I was going to replace it with another oem line, until I realized that doing so required dropping the tank, thanks to a series of unreachable clips on the top of the tank that hold all three fuel hoses. I'm just not in the mood to tear the rear end apart to drop the tank, so I didn’t.

As a quick fix, I grabbed some leftover fuel hose (e85 approved) from a previous project, some generic quick connectors and some crappy leftover hose clamps.





So far so good, no obvious leaks and no gas smell, but I don't really trust the unprotected loose hose to last forever. Long term, I've either got an AN bulkhead modification for the current hanger or a fancier hanger like the radium in my future. From there I'm torn between running steel braided shielded -6 AN from the tank all the way to the engine bay vs just to the hard line where this current duct tape fix ends currently.

I was surprised at how quiet the walbro 450 is compared to my old 255, at least at prime and idle levels. I expected it to be louder, but it's much quieter.

any info on how you ran the wiring for the walbro 450? I just picked up that same bulkhead fitting but also have the DW hardwire kit for the fuel pump and want to install both at the same time

I had it basically wired in like this: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...&postcount=393, just with the addition of the impact sensor and connectors for serviceability. Most of that all worked fine for years with the 255.

That said, don't listen to me. I didn't realize it at first, but I was never actually able to get the 450 to run through the controller at anything other than 100% duty cycle. It was shutting off when the controller was asking for 33% or 66% and the stock ecu was switching back to 100%, it probably would have eventually given a CEL, but I only went for a couple of very short drives. When I tried on the link ecu, the car would just die after start up. In the process of trying to debug that, I over-re-tightened the top of the bulkhead fitting and from then on I was blessed with gas smells in the cabin. I immediately got irritated with all that and ordered a used unaltered stock hanger and a little surge tank for the 450 to live in.

My duty cycle issue could have as simple as a less than ideal crimp, connection or something on those lines. Not saying not to try it, just saying to not count me as a success case of the 450 working on the stock controller.

thanks for the info! I have the bulkhead fitting here but very hesitant to install it and have it leak fumes into the cabin as well

Default Fuel redo part 1

I picked up a used 04 sti hanger because the little in tank siphon fed surge bucket thing should help keep the lift pump fed and it was only a couple buck more than a decent condition wrx hanger:



Even though it's not officially E85 safe, I'm just using my old trusty walbro 255 as a lift pump for now:



Got it installed and thankfully no more gas smell in the car.


The surge tank also arrived:



Walbro 450 fits like a glove:



I'm still a little undecided on where exactly to mount the surge tank.

I've been too busy to do much on the WRX lately, other than getting a Recaro Pole Position ABE driver seat (much more comfortable than my old Corbeau), she's just been tucked away in storage. Due to being short on time and space, I've recently been tempted to sell, but going out for a little spirited drive today helped calm those thoughts.
