GD/GG Strut tower repair w/ factory panels
I want to collect information about strut tower repair using Factory panels when applicable for GD and GG chassis as it is known they have some serious rot problems.
My wagon is ready for some much needed strut tower repair, and being the anal (ill be inexperienced) person i am, i am looking for replacement panels from the factory for an "easier" repair, or if i get sick of it i can give to a shop and have them fix up everything with factory parts because im a 9-5 turd that doesnt know how to weld lmao. Low and behold, strut tower rot is a known problem yet subaru has discontinued Rear Strut Tower/Assembly/Apron/etc. for 2002-2005 GD and GG chassis. Here are the Part numbers for the rear panel: 51625FE000 Apron Panel, Right Rear 51625FE010 Apron Panel, Left Rear The panels mentioned above are fitted for 02-05 GD and GG Chassis as well as some foresters. Also with discussing with various warehouses I was provided with different part numbers for my car, the inner wheel housing panel for 02-07 (also discontinued) 51650FE020 Inner Wheelhouse, Right Station wagon 51650FE030 Inner Wheelhouse, Left Station wagon HOW EVER THERE MAY BE HOPE The replacement Apron panel is still manufactured for the 2006-2007 model year 51625FE011 Apron Panel, Left Rear. 51625FE001 Apron Panel, Right Rear. My questions area as follows, 1) Has anyone replaced their strut towers with factory panels in the past few years that can provide clarification for me? 2) Is the Apron panel the reinforcement in the strut tower that retains all the moisture? 3) If that's the case can I use the Apron Panel for my 02 Wagon even though part number is different?

If I was going to repair rusted strut towers I wouldn't use factory panels. I would reinforce the strut towers with structural tubes back to solid metal in a few areas and then primer and anti-rust coat the heck out of the areas. Then I would seal off the areas with aluminum sheet metal and RVT silicone. A 2003 WRX isn't worth much anymore, might as well make any investment in it as cheap and functional as possible.
