are you sure it needs to be running and not in <ON> mode for the key? the car shouldn't see it as a big difference. if you've first hand verified this, i'll add it to the article.

^ You gotta do it 20 times in 30 seconds. Engine doesn't have to be running just key on.

Keep in mind the Seatbelt chime trick will be reset if you remove your battery to reset ECU.

Since Diggy (OP) bumped this, and because I've got an itching (or is it burning?) curiosity to know, does anybody know if this fix will work for the MY '15 WRX / STI (ie. the VAs)?

*disclaimer* All information I know (unless otherwise stated) is gathered from owning my '11 STi Sport-Tech Canadian Model. Please take extreme caution, and use any information at your own risk.

Problem:
It was that I was being annoyed at the A/C automatically turning on when I change my vent setting to defrost the front windshield. Sometimes I just want the windshield to have warm-ish air to defrost without the A/C on. In other cars I've owned, there was a certain button sequence to disable the auto A/C.

Solution:
- If you are on defrost vent position already (and unsure if the compressor is running):
press the A/C button to turn the A/C on, and then off. This will ensure the A/C compressor is off, and you will still be in defrost vent position, but without A/C on.

- If you are on any other vent position (and desire to be in defrost without A/C):
move selector to defrost vent position, the A/C light should come on, press A/C once to turn off the compressor.

Notes:
If you change the vent to any other selection, and back to full defrost, it will automatically turn on A/C again.
If you have climate control (Sport-Tech for MY11-13), and have HVAC set to AUTO control, you will be able to turn off A/C manually, but this will affect performance.
The setting will remain if you change the fan speed, AND if you turn off the car.

Tested Compatibility:
- MY09 STi
- MY10 STi
- MY11 STi w/ Sport-Tech
- MY12 STi w/ Sport-Tech

Problem:
A lot of people say the stock radio non nav unit sucks and does not have a good quality sound what so ever.

Solution:

TRICK 1: By having key on No.1 position (accessory only) turning on your radio. by pressing 1 and 6 together and by pressing the tune button you can switch the deck from LOUD OFF to LOUD ON. this will give you a little more bass from crappy radio quality.

TRICK 2: same thing key on no.1 position. turn radio unit off. BY pressing 1 and 4 together and double tap tune button you can change the deck setting to THROUGH MODE. which imo the best of them all. (1,2 double tap tune is SEDAN MODE; 1,3 double tap is WAGON MODE)

Notes:

-I didn't discover this hidden trick so all credit goes to the internet

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnYFs6OpGGs
check out this video if my instruction isn't very clear.

Tested Compatibility:
- 11-14 WRX, Sti

I should add that if anyone has tested any of these articles on other models than listed, please let me know so I can add it to the compatibility.

I just had a quick read-through on the VA thread in the General Community forum. Looks like there's no defeat for a/c (and possibly "Auto" mode on the climate control system?) on the VA's. Kinda sucks (and sucks fuel), because I'm the kind that likes to control what kind of air is flowing into the cabin, and how quickly it does so. You don't really need dehumidified air to keep condensation off the windshield (although I agree that it helps), you just need to keep the windshield above a certain temperature and ensure free-flowing air.

Diggy - could you please confirm the VA constraints with your friend?
