Default cleaning wheels: what to use to get brake dust off

hey guys, I replaced the brake pads on my 06 fxt exactly a month ago. Opted for hawk hp plus. The pads are great love them so far but the brake dust is intense. I did know about the added brake dust with these pads prior to purchasing them but today when I went to clean wheels, seems like they are caked in. Very difficult to remove the brake dust off my STI BBS wheels. I used Turtle Wax wheel cleaner product. Any advice? I want to keep these pads. Any other product I should be using? Stiffer brush, harsher chemical etc..

I will be cleaning the wheels more frequently now.

I like Griot's products. I would start with this before going to something more potent.

And this works well for the lug nuts.

IronX wheel cleaner is supposed to be very good, but it is pretty expensive.

At least that will give you an opportunity to monitor rotor wear. Let's just say that HP+ is a pretty damn abrasive pad in street driving and leave it at that.

I've used cheap stuff and I've used the "good stuff", and meguiars ultimate wheel cleaner that can be had for super cheap works great. After you clean them wax/seal/ceramic coat them to help keep the dust off longer. Any of the ceramic spray waxes work well, something you can apply quickly after a wash since the wheel cleaner will eat it.

I have used Sonax for years that stuff works great. I use it with a set wool wheel brushes and it is an effortless process...

Another vote for Sona wheel cleaner full effect. No need to scrub the wheels most of the time.

Wheels: 04-07 sti BBS wheels.

Just got my shipment of sonax wheel cleaner plus. This thing works great, just spray on dry wheels let sit for a minute or two, and finally rinse off with water. It cleaned up most of my wheel but in between the spokes, brake dust is still caked on. Again, i haven't scrubbed them down with some kind of abrasive pad yet just spray and rinse method. When i get some time ill use a scotch brite pad.

On my Toyota with normal oem pads the sonax wheels cleaner worked like a gem. Good product.

Maybe start with just a brush (even an old toothbrush) before jumping to scotch brite which will scratch the finish.

If you’re serious you should use the correct tools. Look up “wheel woolies”. Those and something like P&S break buster will go a long way.

If that doesn’t work, use a chemical designed to remove embedded iron particles but use it sparingly and not in the sun.
