Subaru Stars I Like Subarus // 2005 STi Revival

Long time listener, first time caller here.

I am back in another Subaru. This time, back into a proper GD STi. I picked up this OBP locally in DFW for a steal but it is a bit rough around the edges. I have plans to restore and build this car into everything I wanted back in the early aughts.

I have a parts delivery coming any minute now which will be the first step in sorting out this build. Nothing crazy is coming (except maybe the wheels...) so don't expect to see any flares, wide bodies, or anything of that nature.

First, a bit of history...

It all started in 2005 with this beautiful PSM that I should've never sold:

I sold this back in 2013 when I had the desire to move on to other platforms and get the mullet wagon experience.

Said mullet wagon:

Nostalgia struck and I purchased a brand new 2017 STi. Here she is right before I sold her:

Now, that car didn't last too long because the fuzzies wore off quickly. I knew I eventually wanted another Subaru but it had to be a GD chassis. A friend of a friend was selling his extremely clean bugeye, and I had to have it:

Then, one day, while minding my own business a friend text me a link to a FB posting with a cheap, clean-titled, OBP STi. I didn't mean to buy it... but it happened.

With the others:

More to come.

Nice looking parts list so far! Loved your red STi and yeah I can see why you miss your GD chassis PSM, also a beauty.

What's going to happen here? What's in some of the unmarked boxes? Asking for a friend?

It's not for everyone, but it gives me the 'feels'.

Ultimately, albeit relatively slowly, it's being brought back up to proper condition. A trip to the body shop is on the list sometime between now and summer. Til then, i'll be going through it mechanically to replace worn out items and adding modifications along the way.

Nice rides. You say its a little rough, but it still looks to be in better shape than most of the clapped-out GD chassis I see around here

Out of curiosity what didn't you like about the 2017? Just not visceral/raw-feeling enough like the GD was?

Yeah, it's rough around the edges. Fender trim is broken, front bumper splitters are scraped up really badly, side skirts are barely hanging on. All this will be fixed in due time. Though, for $7k I am fine with fixing it up along the way.

It was hard not to just order up the full voltex wide body aero package.

Yeah, the newer ones are a bit more refined. Don't get me wrong, they're nice, comfortable and upgraded over the GD chassis, but I wanted that raw experience again. Most of the cars I gravitate towards have that feeling. C6 Z06, 370, GD chassis are all more or less driver's cars.

Parts haul:

Some OE pieces: fog light covers, fender trim, splitters (not pictured), trunk badge for the wingless trunk, and floor mats. Couldn't find blue mats

Aaaaaaaand, the other stuff:
