I found out the problem. During several ECU connecting and disconnecting procedures I've managed to smash one of the pins quite badly, so 12v pin was in conastant contact with ground pin.
Lucily nothing got permanently broken, I straightened the pin, deleted ecu error codes and the car started nicely.
So the ecu unbrick process was a success!

I used a standard USB-TTL interface and it worked great with Renesas Development Toolkit Basic

But for a long time I had 2 major things wrong:

1) The DIY timer was a mess, so I bought a simple NE555 generator for 4 dollars and used multimeter to finetune frequency to 135mz and duty cycle to 50%

2) At first I didn't notice to connect USB ground, P413 and ECU ground all together.

Thank you for all the help!

Hi yall. I have a 07 usdm sti and I'm struggling to build the board for the bench flash. Is there anyone here who can help a guy out. I can compensate you for the help.
My cars been like this now for 4 days. I got all the parts to build it I've just never done anything like this so it all seems very foreign to me. Or if you anyone in the orange co. area who can help I can come to you and still pay for your service.

Someone help!

Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago I brick my ecu, I was flashing and my connection with ecuflash was broken

I'm trying to use the Renesas mode, and I have an error:

I have connection, and one time it works the system and I download the image, when I connect the Ecu to my car, the FAN and Fuel pump go ON/OFF flashing!!

So I disconnect again my ecu, and now when I'm trying to download the rom, I have always the same fault..

Hi Mickonewell, earlier in this thread (Post #195 by mknight002 - see page 4), user mknight002 had created and shared (via link) a VERY comprehensive PDF and PowerPoint that goes through building the board step-by-step. If you are unable to access the linked file, feel free to PM me and I'll email you a copy I downloaded.

Would this work for an 06 wrx and/or 2010 Forester (NA)? Both are 32 bit, first is SH7055 and second is SH7058. If so, how much are you looking to get for it?

I had an arduino board laying around, so I tried to use it instead of building the board described here. I was able to connect to the ECU, but kept getting communication timeouts and checksum errors at different parts of the flash process. I thought the arduino processor might not be keeping up, so I offloaded just the communication to a Teensy 4.1 board. To my surprise it actually worked! The arduino provided 5V, ground, and WDT signal, which was actually around 220Hz, instead of 125Hz. The teensy just handled relaying the USB to TTL communication. I'm sure it can all be done with just a teensy, for those that are less electronically experienced, like myself.

@nuni_sti I was getting the same error when USB to TTL was not functioning properly.

Do you have a picture showing your wiring setup with this USB TTL? Resistor still needed on output of timer?

Default I used that same setup

first I tried following the diagram but it kept pulling to much power from my usb port.. i ended up not having to do anything, ground to p413 & cap, vcc to p405, tx p409, rx p411 wd to 407 timer was powered direct from power supply not usb.. i have 7058 chip in 2008 sti. it said programing successful however when i put back i could not communicate with ecuflash, just goes straight to kernel get error interface closed when i try to flash a drivable tune, tried to recover with stock file.

Crap, I didn't even know you COULD brick an ECU. I was thinking about getting a tuner to fix all the stock issues, but now I'm not so sure.

Where did you get the stock ROM file from? Does it match the ECU code on the sticker?

Needing help on a 2015 sti ecu. I found my 5 pads but the previous ecus I have unbricked had the cap listed as 426 or 427 they were 04 ecu. This 15 I can’t find a cap listed there. I have one at 424 but not sure if that’s correct or if that step is even needed.
Thanks,
Randy

I did end up using ground on the cap in the picture. EcuFlash wrote stock map and said it was successful. Will find out tomorrow for sure. I had to use the bench and don’t have access to car today.
Thanks,
Randy

Not sure about the Legacy GT ECUs, but is it possible it has a SH/7058 (CANBUS) chip instead? I know the later ECUs used it, but can't remember which years it started.

Are you powering the ECU from the car or on a separate power supply?
