Default Liz: 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX Limited Wagon Build Thread

I wanted to post this in project forum but I don't know how to get access to it. So I will post it in my region and maybe a moderator can move it.

Purpose: To keep a detailed record of Liz. Liz is a 2006 Subaru Impreza Limited WRX Wagon. She currently resides in Winchester, VA. This is more for me but I feel like someone may enjoy my OCD?

Bandwidth warning: I love taking pictures. I purchased a $1,500 Galaxy S20 5G Ultra because of this fact. It was supposed to be the top of the line camera phone with 108MP and 100x zoom. Little did I know, the camera hardware actually sucks. Close up pictures are very difficult and sometimes blurry. Please do not rub this in my face, I am pissed off enough. Hahaha

I don't post all of my pictures on this thread so if you'd like to see them here are my albums:

Did a few things today including starting the build thread I have been putting off!

Engine, transmission and diff oil changed
How to fill your differential:

Found a leaking power steering line:
Going to go to autozone Monday to make a new return line because I don't want to pay $50 for a whole new set. I've seen I can use a GM Fuel Line Flare tool to make the proper flare. We will see!

Somethings to come:

I used a power steering line from Autozone part # 80264. I cut it at the second bend and flared it. Seems to be working. I also flushed the power steering fluid with 3 quarts of Dextron III while I was at it.

Just an update:

I was having issues with an intermittent starting problem. (https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2925605) I solved it with replacing the fuel pressure regulator.

I also was shifting pretty hard and the snap ring on the bottom of the pivot bushing broke off. I used a snap ring from a variety pack from Autozone as a temporary fix till the correct OEM replacement (031524000) comes in from Subaru.

And I got this in:

Probably going to install it this weekend along with the STI intercooler.

Installed a BlackVue DR900S-2CH. One of those things I hope I never have to use.

Also painted my windshield wipers. They were driving me insane. I used full gloss single stage rattle paint. Honestly probably should have gone with semi gloss. Oh well.

Also installed interior LEDs. I used the Type - S hub from Autozone because it has Bluetooth and music sense. Most importantly, it saves previous settings when 12v is disconnected which none of the other modules I tried did. I have it wired using 2 relays. The 1st relay is triggered from A5 on the body integrated module which is the output for the cabin lights when door is opened. I just hope its not too much of an electrical draw to operate a micro relay. The second relay is triggered off the illumination fuse.

Demonstration Video

Music Sense

Finally car passed inspection today. Was kind of hoping it'd fail for tie rods and ball joints so I could have an excuse to buy whiteline center roll kit. Maybe another time. Definitely going to install the getadom and STI intercooler this week. Im interested to see how much my boost will drop going to a bigger intercooler. Highest I've seen yet was today at 15.95 on the AP. I average mid 15s.

Installed the GetADomTune Cylinder 4 Cooling Mod today. Also put in new coolant.

Also picked up a class 1 Curtis hitch. Going to grind it down, prime it, and paint it.

I was going to install my STI intercooler today but decided to order an elbow just in case I need it.

Ordered a set of yellow Hella Supertones too. Only for looks mostly. Going for all yellow accents if you can't tell!

Installed STI v. 7 intercooler. I don't like the fitment so I am going to adjust it once I get a new 90° silicon elbow. I cut mine too short.

Installed the Grimmspeed Hoodscoop splitter.

I am seeing about the same 16 PSI but my intake temps seems like they are higher than they used to be which surprised me.

Installed Hella Sharptones with the Grimmspeed Brotie today. Didn't use the relay just used the same wiring except I had to extend the wire a bit for the drivers side. I wasn't really impressed with the Brotie fitment. I had to bend the outside temperature sensor bracket to get it to fit properly. Also the Brotie is only held in by the one center bolt. IT looks good and is even which I would have had a difficult time doing by making my own bracket.

I also worked on getting the JDM v.7 STI intercooler mounted correctly and bolted up. I had to modify the brackets on both sides to get it to line up the way I wanted. The drivers side bracket I had to remove and install only using one bolt. I also had to cut the bracket a bit to make room for the brake booster vacuum line.

The passenger side I slotted the holes so I could move the backward towards the rear.

This is how it sits bolted up without the silicon installed

How I modified the silicon 90 to fit.

I had some issues with the AC compressor pulley this week. If you look over previous logs, the previous owner had issues with noise coming from the belts. Well, I found the issue. I think when Subaru did the timing belt, they forgot to tighten down the adjuster bolt and the 2 bolts to the tensioner bracket on the AC belt. Needless to say, I went to go turn on my AC and it didn't turn on. I found the belt off the crank pulley and wrapped around the tensioner pulley and compressor pulley. I ordered a new tenisoner adjuster and the bolt as the wobbling pulley rubbed through both of them. Also it did some damage to my front timing cover. I inspected what I can and it doesn't look like it rubbed through the cover and into the belt. However I am going to replace the cover soon and inspect the belt.

Finally a little teaser for my next project:

Fixed the A/C today. Purchased a new adjuster bolt, 2 nuts and the adjuster straight from Subaru.

Also replaced the coolant overflow because it was leaking.

Installed a 08-14 STI steering wheel today.

I used this tutorial: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=1963588

I couldn't find anything on using the bluetooth controls so I came up with my own idea. Look for my post in the tutorial for an explanation. I am going to use a Maestro SW to get the audio buttons to work with my headunit.

Installed a Kenwood Excelon DMX706S to work with my steering wheel better. Now all of the buttons have the correct function.

Thank you!!!

Went to install Stoptech Select Sport Axle Pack (Drilled/Slotted Rotors and Street Pads) on the front and rear along with Stoptech Stainless Steel Braided Lines and flush the brake fluid.

The rears went okay. But the front drivers side showed this. So I knew a headache was on its way.

I tried to unseize the piston to no avail. So I ordered refurbished OEM calipers for all 4 corners because they were all pretty rusted. Here's a teaser of what is to come.

Installed refurbished brake calipers that I painted with VHT Caliper Paint, installed Stoptech Select Sport Axle pack on front and rear, Stoptech stainless steel braided lines on front and rear, and flushed brake fluid.

Honestly not happy with the VHT paint. I am buying a wrecked STI soon so they are temporary still I swap the Brembos over. The VHT paint seemed to eat the decals a bit when I applied the clear coat.

Did quite a few things lately but first a few notes.

Pac SWI-CP2 didn't last a month. So now I bought a Metra Axxess ASWC-1 to try.

Like an idiot, I debadged the rear thinking all would be fine. Well, the emblems are ghosted in. Not sure how I am going to deal with that just yet.

I went to install the Perrin radiator support. The car has been in a front accident before as the radiator support it twisted. Explains why the front bumper doesn't line up with the hood. Going to take it to an autobody shop to see how much it will cost to fix.

I finished the JDM Folding mirror install. They came out great. Going to make a thread of the process.

I also installed 7 sheets of Kilmatt on the drivers side door. Used 3M Strip Caulk for the moisture barrier. Really satisfied with the results.

I also installed a Dual USB 3.0 flushmount in the center console. The top USB connects to the radio. The bottom connects to QC3.0 Fast charger. The charger has 2 ports and I have the other extended to the passenger side foot panel in case another passenger needs to charge their device.
