Nuff said here. The new Toyota Corolla SE looks a-lot like what the new WRX could look like.

We would be lucky if the new wrx looked as good as the Corolla

Well...….if you're going to use that kind of "similarity", then there are many cars that look like each other.

I have certainly liked the current Corolla look.

sure you guys aren't thinking of the Camry?
Nobody can genuingly possibly like the look of the Corolla lol
Camrys on the other hand, look very sleek.
That's more the size/performance the WRX will be like in Toyota's lineup.

A Corolla-sized STI would be a hoot.

The Legacy is the Camry competitor. Let's stop with this nonsense of the WRX competing with the Camry, unless you don't mind not being taken seriously.

you're right about the "current" size, I could've sworn the WRX and STI were the size of the Camry as opposed to the Corolla. But we'll see what the dimensions for the new WRX/STI will be.

Performance wise, the new WRX is supposed to be or close to 300hp (certinaly more than current #s) which would then be TRD Camry comparable. Therefore, with that in mind, other than size , not sure what Corolla would be close to competing?

It looks HUGE....thats a lot bigger than a corrola...its longer and wider, so its going to be camry size. I just dont get too excited about rebadged toyota's with body kits for styling for the iconic WRX and STI though, they better be a LOT more aggressive looking at least.

I dont doubt these will be fast, and faster than the current gen WRX and STI respectively, I just want to see a REALLY fast production stock STI....the GD's are as fast and faster than the new STI's for cryin' out loud. And ya ya...blah blah blah..dont want to upset the balance with too much power etc....but even the current gen chassis is good enough for 500 horsepower...they left a TON of potential of the current gen out of the box performance potential off the table by keeping the horsepower within 10 horsepower of the GD era. The all new engined STI has to be ground breaking.

400HP STI would be ground breaking out the ballpark for me.
500HP is not even remotely realistic c'mon.
Truth is, it'll probably be 350 or little more.
I could see 365 something like that just to say they went above the RS.

as for power figures, how much power will the newer cvt allow. it won't allow more than 295ft lbs of torque. but it doesn't need that much to have serious pull off the line anyway. the legacy xt is only 277ft lbs and yet it launches nicely on regular fuel. obviously the new wrx will run on premium and possibly will have more power instead of torque since the cvt will be configured for towing. it is very possible for the wrx to put out around 300hp, with the torque being between 280-290 ft lbs of torque. it may finally allow for stage 2 tunes but we don't know if anyone tested those waters yet

The STI will have much more power than the wrx, and I would guess it has to make more than the S209 did. the 6-speed manual will be substantially upgraded to handle the new power figures and higher torque pull at lower revs due to the direct injection. if it is getting an automatic to allow it have eyesight for safety rating as well as better fuel efficiency, it won't be a cvt. it wont be able to handle the torque at all. will they borrow the zf8 automatic from toyota. supposedly that tranny is being used for the brz as well. it will allow for interesting tunes that cvt wrx owners can only dream of

Length x Width x Height x Wheelbase (mm)

Levorg:
4.755 x 1.795 x 1.500 x 2.670

Camry:
4.895 x 1.839 x 1.445 x 2.825

Corolla Wagon:
4.650 x 1.790 x 1.435 x 2.700

So, it's shorter than the Camry, and about the same width as the Corolla. And you say it's competing with Camry. Just get over it.

Note: Corolla wagon is 20mm longer than the sedan, so WRX (aka Levorg Sedan) should be smaller than Levorg.

For people that use 'murican units:

Car LxWxH-wheelbase
2020 WRX 181 x 71 x 58 - 104.3
Old Levorg 184.5 x 70 x 58.5 - 104.3
New Levorg 187.2 x 70.6 x 58.2 - 105.1

New WRX 184 x 71.5 X 58 - 105.1 (my estimate)

Camry 192 x 72 x 56 - 111.2

I think we can see where this is going. You've convinced yourself that the new WRX is a rebadged Camry now. OK. You've shared this thought in several posts now, you can stop there.

Without fail, you double down on all of your most inflammatory opinions as they draw ridicule and it significantly reduces the quality of this forum. You draw so much fire that ignoring is useless. Since I do not think you are a deliberate troll, I will say: please stop that.

Subaru's have a longitudinal FRONT ENGINE layout, which means vehicle length will be longer than a competitor in the same class for a given body style with a transverse layout. The entirety of a Subaru engine is FORWARD of the front axle; so to accommodate frontal crash regulations, they need a longer nose.
AS USUAL the number to compare is the wheelbase.

Corolla & levorg have a similar wheelbase, which means on the inside (where passenger volume is concerned) they will be similar.

It will save you guys some headaches if you just put derphawk on your ignore list.

I think total length matters way more than wheelbase. A short wheelbase car with a huge nose isn't a small car. It's a medium sized car with **** interior space.

That is your opinion, not the way vehicle class is determined.

Car class size is determined by interior volume, hence wheelbase being a comparison that will yield accurate comparisons within a class.

Until Subaru changes their AWD layout, they will have a longer nose than the competition.

You can continue to compare an impreza/levorg/wrx to a Camry, you will be comparing cars from different classes.

You will not be correct stating that the impreza/levorg/wrx are in the same vehicle size class as the Camry, they are not; that is Legacy territory.

I get that:
Impreza=Corolla
Legacy=Camry

but other than size, how is the WRX/STI comparable to the Corolla?
Specially with this new gen getting a bump in performance + judging by the pics on that mule, it does look like a bigger car.

Why would I, or anyone, compare an almost 10 inch longer Camry to an Impreza?

The non-SGP Impreza sedan was 181" long. The SGP Impreza sedan is 182" long.

The current non-SGP WRX is 181" long. The non-SGP Levorg was 184" long. The SGP Levorg is 187" long.

The non-SGP Legacy sedan was 189" long. The SGP Legacy sedan is 191" long.

Toyota Camry V6 is 193" long.

I have to admit this current Corolla is the nicest looking I can remember especially from the front end. Maybe the best looking compact car. Toyota's current models are much more daring than Subaru's conservative designs.
