Default GC8 STi Gearsets $1414 shipped

This Group Buy is Officially Closed. No Takers Price per gearset back to $1450 shipped [/b]

Mods can delete this if necessary.

This thread is to find out if anyone would be interested in a group buy for a new GC8 STi RA Syncromesh Close Ratio Gearset. If interested price will be $1414 shipped to anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States. Alaska, Hawaii, or other countrys will be more. E-mail for quotes. As soon as 5 people are signed up allow at least 2 weeks for shipments to arrive at your door step.

These gearsets are factory Ver.6 STi RA 5-speed close ratio gearsets with special cryogenic stress relieving treatment. Improved strength and durability over stock WRX and RS components. Excellent for mildly tuned street and group N competition vehicles with power outputs up to around 300hp. These can be installed in place of the stock WRX or RS gearsets with no modifications needed.

Gearset includes main shaft and all gears as well as all necessary parts for proper installation including locknuts, gaskets, and seals.

STi RA ratios:
3.083 (1st)
2.062 (2nd)
1.545 (3rd)
1.151 (4th)
0.825(5th)
Stock WRX Ratios
3.454:1 (1st)
1.947:1 (2nd)
1.366:1 (3rd)
0.972:1 (4th)
0.738:1 (5th)

As you can see, 1st + 2nd gear are much longer in the RA gearset, but 3rd, 4th, and 5th are a bit shorter. RPM's while cruising will be a few hundred rpm's higher, so the tradeoff will be one or two miles per gallon while cruising and loads of power ready to go in the lower gears.

Any Subaru guys and gals interested please post up and I'll get you on the list. All we need is a 50% deposit since these will be coming directly from Japan. In order to receive the $1414 shipped price I need at least 5 people to get started.

Absolutely nothing. It comes with everything you need. Unless you have broken parts in your tranny like a shift fork.

Thanks for your interest.

You should be fine with this gearset for up to 300whp. I have other customers using this same gearset with more than that.

As for GC8 fitment, I can't be 100% sure. I would assume that they would fit fine due to the similar characteristics of the tranny case, but I have not sold them to anyone with a 2001 GC8. The final drive ratio still remains the same so chances are that it does fit.

Nice to see there is an affordable option out there. I don't currently need this gear set but do you always stock them, in case I ever do need to replace the gears.

We typically sell about 2-4 sets per month. They are almost always easily obtainable within 1-2 weeks.

MauroMotorsports,

If you can be sure if this will fit a 2001 rs box I will be very interested since my tranny is broken at this moment.

I'm having my tranny built right now with this gearset at RalliSpec. Just an FYI to everyone that buys this set. If you are having any type of grinding probs or put your stock tranny through a lot of abuse, you will want to replace all your baulk rings and synchro hubs. That runs another $500-$600. Found out the hard way.

I've read that there was some issue with using the correct shift fork for the 3-4 gears, or the shifter wouldn't stay in gear? Do you have any information on this?

Yes, this is what actually happened to my tranny. There are 3 different shift forks that could be in our tranny depending on how things were lined up at the factory. It just so happened that my tranny had the weird fork that threw everything out of alignment for the STi gears. This is usually not a problem, because most trannys have the correct fork, but mine had the one that wouldn’t work.

What is the production date for your vehicle. For our own reference. This is interesting because we haven't heard this problem. Only problems have been broken forks and other misc. parts in the tranny.

Anthony

I still don't have my car back, so I'm unsure of what the production date is. I purchased it November 2001 if that helps. Call up RalliSpec, talk to Dave or Greg, they are working on my tranny now, I'm sure they can provide more info on this.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Unfortunately no way to get these on your OEM 5th gear, but they are brand new gearsets.

I might be interested. Are you planning on a group discount buy on the baulk rings and shift fork stuff too?
