Nothing can "void" your warrenty.

If an aftermarket part can be tied to a failed factory part, then SOA can decide that they do not need to cover the OEM part under warrenty.

For instance the aftermarket lower springs you installed on your stock struts causes your struts to start leaking oil. Since the springs cause the problem, your struts are not covered under warrenty.

But if you install aftermarket lower springs and your car blows a headgasket, they would still have to cover the engine failure, because there is no way supension can blow a headgasket.

Does that make sense?

If you need more information, try searching around www.sema.org

If the aftermarket item is somewhat related (and Subaru uses that word loosely "related") they will void your warranty!

As far as a BOV, there goes your turbo and maybe even your engine warranty! Or they will atleast give you a hard time if you ever need warranty work in that immediate area. Do a search on BOV = benefits, and then decide if you still WANT one.

Put it this way if they see it, they will make note of it and make something of it if need be. It's all about the Benjamins........

If you have aftermarket wheels and your wheel bearings go bad they probably won't warranty them. If you have a BOV and something happens with your engine maybe they'll blame it on that. Is it worth it just for the noise?

Hey, interesting topic. I wanted to upgrade the factory alarm, to a Viper alarm. Could this void the warranty on parts of the car? And what about if and when i put speakers and a deck in the car. That would totally suck if having a stereo in my car voids something.

I wouldn't worry to much about that.

And the bov, is very easy to change, like 15 minutes if you did it before, and can be changed before you go to the dealer, they would never know.

I can't see how an alarm or stereo could cause a problem (as long as its installed right and doesn't mess up the electrical system) If the stereo draws a huge amount of power you might need a better battery.

just for the record, the correct statment is "deny warranty coverage." "Void warranty" implies the warranty contract no longer exists. It ALWAYS exists (up until the mileage/age restrictions) - every repair should be a case-by-case judgment. For instance, if you put on lowering springs and your struts go, the dealership may deny warranty coverage. If you call one month later and say, "I think my head gasket is toasted," they can't reply that they voided your warranty on the springs issue so you're SOL. Every instance should get a fresh eye.

Typically. the only thing that will "Void the Warranty" is an accident that "totals" the car. In that situation SOA will void the warranty. If you wire in something electrical (Sec. Sys., stereo) and make a mess of the installation, you will be on your own if you develop electrical problems IN THAT AREA OF THE CAR.
