I stand by my statement that if they had regular fluid service intervals compared to this "lifetime fluid" bull**** that even new autos have, they would have more success. No mechanical device is lifetime maintenance free.

This forum is full of commies. First the guy that wants every container to match for his food storage and now this guy that wants people to use common sense. What is this place coming to?

I want to see the "car with automatic who's fluid has never been changed" mileage record is (yes I've seen older automatics last for quite a while with no service, but that's not the point). FFS, lubrication breaks down, and if the fluid cannot provide the requirements, then catastrophic failure ensues.

Totally agree. I will absolutely have the fluid changed at 40k(?) intervals. It's like Subaru is setting themselves up for disaster.

Just like those stupid lawnmowers now that say "just add oil, never change". Granted tolerances are much looser in those engines but the thought just makes me cringe!

Well, an update. We took the car in a couple months ago and they swapped the fluid hoping that would help. Nope, it's now almost violent when it bucks and "shifts" around 25mph and getting worse each day. We're headed for a vacation so hoping to drop it off when we leave and start the process to get a replacement transmission.

We're not ready to buy a new car and even if we were, the cost of the transmission will be less than the markups on cars right now (if we could even find one). So we'll wait until prices come down and we're in a better position to buy the car we really want. 104,000 miles on the car, so I know I can get another 100,000 out of the new transmission

They found metal in the fluid. $9,300 for the new one, and SOA is covering $6,500 of that. Thanks for the advice from you all, especially those of you that recommended calling SOA.

That's honestly not bad, but what I would expect as how a CVT works. I also think that if the CVT had a full fluid flush interval at 30-40k miles and some sort of filter, it would have a significantly longer life and better reputation.

I could've sworn Subaru was doing some CVT recall for 2011-2016's?
I know I brought my 2012 Legacy in and they changed the CVT for free a few years ago

Lifetime anything is never lifetime. Lifetime sealed bearings never last a life time. I can’t tell you how many people think a timing chain never needs changed. I wish they’d stop saying these things are lifetime.

I don't think so. They did extend the warranty to 100k miles.

There's also two different CVTs used by Subaru.

But hey, those lifetime parts work until they don't, which is their "lifetime".

Well over a decade ago I bought a lifetime Malwarebytes install. I just moved it to my 4th computer.
