2021 STI - Factory Order
Anyone know what is the cutoff date to factory order a 2021 STI , before they cut over to the next gen?

I can tell you that my son ordered a 2020 STi in November of 2020. It came in during January.

Is there even a 2021 model year? I just got a 2020 last week.

I don't think there is any cut off, it totally depends how many of the previous year they have and how production went and is going.
Sometimes as early as June or July they start selling the next year, other times you can wait until December. I got my 16 in September of 15 |

Not really sure if there is going to be a 2021 model ( possible typo ). My plan was to wait to see the next gen and if I would like it. But also didn't want to wait too long to order a current gen STI before it is too late, if I do not like the next gen.

Fun fact, though, it appears that they are yet again offering the Kicker subwoofer option... |

I bought my 2020 STI on 12/31/2020 and the dealer had more 2020's on order. Now there are 2021's starting to hit the dealer lots. I figured the new model would probably be much more expensive and over loaded with useless technology so I went with the current version. It is easily the most "complete" vehicle I have ever owned. Not the fastest, not the prettiest, but definitely the most fun and most accessible.
BTW, what's up with the Kicker sub? The stock audio system is pathetic and I was considering the full Kicker upgrade, as I prefer OEM mods. Last edited by Marsalad; 03-13-2021 at 02:38 PM. Reason: Typo |

I'm in the process of ordering a 2021 right now, it doesn't get to the dealer until 4/10

I don:t think you are going to get an answer to that one as Subaru wants you to order now. The 2021 models were late getting out, the 2022 models may not be out until early 2022 for all I can tell. Normally you get the next years model in late summer or early fall but things look like they are behind. At some point Subaru will stop production but it could be fall, could be sooner. I doubt they are going to make it easy on you and let the information out though.

Yeah I agree with that. My plan was to wait until they release solid info about the next gen STI, and if I do not like it order a 2021 STI.

I have a similar thought but more in terms that if I did not like the 2022 models I would get a used 2015-2021 in a couple years.

I know that it is almost the same as the 2020, wasn't sure if they would officially call it 2021. Basically just wanna see how far out I can wait to see the next gen, and if it is not for me order a 2020 / 2021. |

The MY22 (all-new) has been seen in spy shots (check News and Rumors forum). That should come out end of the year, and the Press Releases and Pre-Orders should start Spring/Summer 2021. I'd just wait. |

I've noticed in my area many of my local dealers still have brand-new 2020 STI's on the lot. There is no difference between 2020 vs 2021.

With a new engine on the platform, I’d rather take my chances with something established. I ordered a 2021 at least knowing the devil with an EJ engine. I am on week 2 of waiting for the right car coming to Port. |

Plus, the FA24DIT exists in the Ascent, Legacy and Outback. Good luck with the wait, I remember watching RORO ships on the marine tracking website for a long time. |

The FA24 is pretty proven at this point. Rumor has it the STI will have an extra 100 horses on tap. I think it's worth at least waiting to see it.

Indeed the FA24 is in other cars as was variations of EJ prior to the STI. They made sure they put down good numbers And then they played with emissions ... and ringlands failed and spun bearings... I know firsthand and still own a wrx that failed at 16k. If you put the FA24 in a performance car you will see how it holds up better to mods and people pushing the limits. Legacies and ascents aren’t driven like an STI and so it’s hard to say how well it will do completely. FA as pointed out an extra 100 hp. That’s a lot of extra power... The new car intrigues me, and the power is enticing... but... brand new platform makes me nervous. And those wheel arches are awful. I’m sure the tech and amenities are better but if I cared about those I’d be buying a Luxary car. I plan to DD the STI and at least know the formula to avoid trouble. I’m not modding, I have my ‘12 wrx limited for that. I also hear rumors that the pistons are RA pistons and a better stock tune on 19+. I’m hopeful this is the right decision. It’s a great question, since I’m spending the money, I hope I am right. I don’t have the window to wait beyond next year for a car. I’ve thought about it and made my peace. Besides regardless it’s exciting to be getting a new STI whatever version it is... right? |

We will see what happens with power and final styling on the future model. So far it's rumors or spy shots. |

I'm considering trading from my current base '15 WRX to a new STi. I actually think I finally want to make the change before the 2022's come out.
I'm trying to figure out the differences between the 2020 and 2021 STi. What are the differences? (I'm personally interested in the base STi with Recaro seats) Only thing I've seen so far in my limited research is Car and Driver mentioned this:. "The 2021 WRX STI carries over with almost no changes. The base model does now come standard with passive hands-free entry and push-button start.". But I'm not sure that's the case. Appreciate any feedback or direction to another thread...thx. |

I'm just now starting to get in the swing of learning the exact differences between the different STi models, options and whatnot. |
