Are we making an Android Oreo thread? Damn it's dead in here.

Would the 2014 Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet be able to handle Kodi 17.3?

Should be able to handle it no problem. If Kodi can run well on things like Fire Stick and some of the crap top boxes they sell on eBay, I don't see how the note 10.1 will have issues.

My favorite part is that it has a bigger screen, but smaller battery than the S8+

My favorite part is $930

It will be hard not to chuckle at anyone I see in public with one, knowing they burned that much on it.

I was hoping to get a new phone this year, but nothing is really hitting most of my checklist items. I hope the Galaxy S9 next year will have the fingerprint sensor fixed (in the front, underneath the screen).

So far having it on the back has not been a big deal. The only time it's a bit sucky is when its in the dash cradle. But my cradle allows me to easily reach around to activate it It seems you can pretty much rotate your finger to any angle and still get a successful read.

Also, paying $900 for a phone is completely ridiculous. Thanks for the trade-in deals Samsung. $425 is the right price.

That's the lowest price from T-Mobile. AT&T and Verizon are $950 and Sprint is $999

The last Note I bought was the Note 3 on contract for $300. I think retail was only 700. Crazy.

Even $578 (out the door) for my S8+ was a lot.

Edit: Samsung now says the unlocked variant is $929. All carriers other than T-Mobile are charging a premium to install their crapware.

I don't understand why anyone would pay more for bloatware. I admit I bought a Verizon S8+ for my wife but at the time it was cheaper than the unlocked one by a few dollars.

The only two things that don't work right on the unlocked phone are Visual Voicemail (which I've never used anyway) and WiFi calling. I can live without those. But the unlocked phone lets me tether away on my grandfathered UDP so I think that's a fair trade

I bought my S8+ at release. I did get the VR headset though for free... Which I've used a couple of times...

I prefer the fingerprint on the back. When I pay with Samsung Pay it's just so much easier to hold the phone and finger the back. : yeah: Trying to hold it one handed and thumb the bottom of the front side is awkward. Feels like I am balancing my phone while I try to thumb it.

Yep, thought I wouldn't like it but actually prefer it to my S7e. To be honest though I think the next gen of phones should do the in screen fingerprint reader and back. That way you have both covered for desk duty unlocking and all else.

I have 0 interest in O at this point. I'm reading the features and there's nothing noteworthy to me. Notification dots? Already have it on Nova launcher and they blend in to the icon they replicate. I still think a red badge count is the best. Most other changes are already available on custom ROMs and I already take them for granted. Or they're such pedantic font changes that they're hardly worth mentioning. Under the hood stuff is nice but with little visual features/updates, it once again feels like another minor update rather than version.

This is all based on my totally unprofessional and uneducated opinion, of course.

O is on my Pixel. It's almost entirely the same. Two things I've noticed off the bat. The phone boots up in about 5 seconds. It used to be about 30. I just got a phone call from a spammer and when the screen turned on, the whole background was red and it had a text warning saying the number was from a suspected spammer. So that was kinda cool.

I answered the call and it was a robocall that didn't even reply when I said Hello, so spammer confirmed.

The suspected spammer alert isn't new to O, my 6P does that on Nougat.

Same on my 5x. Suspected spam phone calls in red. I like it. Hasn't been wrong yet.

I know Google has parameters and whatnot as to what constitutes a #.X.X update versus a new version, but as end consumers, it feels like a whole lot of fanfare for next to nothing most of the time. Nougat introduced a few cool things like split screen, although I can't say I've ever used it beyond seeing that it worked. Now with Oreo, it seems like there's even less going on. Like I said, there's surely good stuff going on under the hood, but as a consumer, that doesn't really get me going.

Those of that that have been using Oreo, is it worth pushing the update at all? I'm really just curious to see what it does to battery life since Android OS has been my number one consumer of battery lately.

We're getting to a point where the OS does just about everything we'd need or want it to.

Some of the newer features I've seen grown that I think are improvements or innovative with smart phones aren't even OS related.

On my 6p the beta Android os uses little battery. I do still have some app compatability issues, though. The nasioc app, for example, has terrible memory problems and if I leave the app, even just to check a txt msg, I'll have to close and reopen the app and then find my way back to where I was.
