makes me wonder, I mean, I know 2 years is a fairly good cycle for phone refresh, but you'd think they'd just upgrade you to the latest.
maybe they'll roll out a premium pixel pass next year where you get the 1 year upgrades.

Checking out of curiosity, all the 6 Pro preorders at my local Best Buy are gone. The 6 is still available in all colors and sizes.

The 6s come with an optical (this being important) fingerprint reader, it should work with tempered glass. |

I'll believe it when I see it. The under-glass Samsung sensor is not compatible with my fingers.

My point is, my wife is annoyed that her Pixel 3 will no longer be getting updates after less than 3 years (she didn't buy it right at launch). I makes her not want to buy another phone from Google. We'll see.. the lack of call/txt screening with Apple will really annoy her. |

Samsung and such I believe still ship their own launchers/etc - I know I'm not even able to help my mom with her phone a lot of the time since she has a Samsung and it's so alien an interface I can't navigate it. I've actually never owned any non-Nexus/Pixel Android devices because of it. They just never make any sense to me even when they have fantastic designs/hardware. |

And I've now discovered the call screening features of Pixels are second to none. My phone hardly ever rings due to spam calls. So nice!

Just cancelled the base 6 order. Was reviewing order history. Was a little shocked then started remembering
Original Pixel: Pre-ordered Refurb #1 sent exactly 1 year later Refurb #2 sent 6 months later Pixel 4 XL: Pre-ordered two years ago exactly. This thing has been sitting at 1% battery for the last month. I started trying to get a battery repair replacement two months ago, been unable. They were telling me to go to ubreakifix, who have not been able to get batteries. RMA to Google would mean two weeks without phone. |

Yep, which I would be okay with. They said it was out of warranty or something despite having preferred care. They cross shipped the Pixel. Super frustrating.

5 years of security updates is great but will the phone even last 5 years?? Important for those like my parents who don't need to upgrade every 1-2 years anymore. See: Pixel 2-4 with cameras failing. Pixel 3 bricking themselves by going into EDL mode this year (most likely a hardware issue). Nexus 5x and 6P are notorious. Multiple with battery issues. Knock on wood, I've been lucky to this point. My oldest is a Nexus 6 (~7 years), still in use as a navi setup on my motorcycle. My Pixel 3 did have horrible screen tint and black crush but never bothered to rma it. |

Current Pixel3 I bought used. Only issue it has is the speakers/speakerphone is distorted at higher volumes. Calls are fine.

Been using my old 3xl for a couple weeks after bending my 4a in a bike crash. It's been kind of nice to have the big screen, but one hand use is not manageable and I have fairly large hands. Anyway, the reason I retired it was because the charge port is inconsistent and unreliable. Sometimes it will charge when plugged in, sometimes I have to play with it, sometimes it just won't charge.

Pulled the trigger on a Pixel 6 Pro -- should be here within the next 10 days.
This better be good, or I'm going to cry. |

I went to Best Buy yesterday to check the phones out in person. Some thoughts...
-The bezels on the regular 6 are definitely thicker than the 6P. It still looks way better than having a huge forehead (Pixel 4/4XL) or a notch (iPhone) IMO and isn't a dealbreaker for me. -6P screen is noticeably brighter than the 6. -The curve on the 6P screen is noticeable but also not terrible. Definitely not Samsung-level of curvature where they expect you to read notifications on the curved portion. -Both screens are buttery smooth. The difference in 90hz and 120hz is really only noticeable if you are focused on spotting the difference. However the 6P screen having LTPO should help with battery life quite a bit. -I actually prefer the finish of the side rails on the regular 6 more than the 6P. The 6 has a matte finish whereas the 6P is polished (I believe it's stainless steel). IMO a brushed stainless steel finish would have looked and felt nicer. -Both phones are practically identical in width. The 6P is a few millimetres taller. 6P feels/looks thicker but just barely. -Magic eraser is cool, although not perfect. In some shots you can tell that something was edited out if you zoom in enough. But then again, nobody said it'd be perfect, it's still going to be very cool and useful for people who just want a quick edit and don't care about professional-level editing. -I didn't snap that many pics with it, but the ones I did take seem like a vast improvement over my 4XL. Portrait mode in particular seems vastly improved, as it does a better job of capturing hair and making sure it's not blurred out. My 4XL struggled with that. My biggest gripe is that whoever put the damn security clamp on the back of the phones did them at different spots on the phone (one was right in the middle and the other one was about 3/4 of the way to the bottom of the phone). Because of that it was hard to get a sense of which one felt more comfortable because I couldn't get a natural grip on the phone. I'll have to go back to another store to try them out again, but so far I am leaning towards the Pro for the nicer screen, bigger battery, and telephoto lens. |

got our 5a phones. took a couple days and a phone call to net10 to get our numbers ported to google fi. got that squared away- holey heck the 5g is pretty quick too.
it's taking some getting used to. I had a TCL 10L which is slightly larger. the 5a feels a little less good in the hand compared to tcl. happy to be back to a pixel with the better camera quality and the speakers sound better as well. the screen quality is good but the screen on the tcl10l was actually pretty good. I liked the face unlock on the tcl as well. oh well different phones, just gotta get used to it. |

First review is out. They mention finicky FP sensor as the only bad. Welp.

The sensor that Samsung had on the back of the phone (S9+) worked 100% of the time and was in an much better position in my opinion. Just hold the phone as if you were going to make a call and your index finger was in the right spot. I guess this is when phones were used as phones. |

The optical sensor on my OnePlus wasn't great at first but got better with updates, now it's pretty instant in unlocking. Being able to unlock the phone while it's on a surface is so much better than the .25 seconds less to unlock that the rear one takes.

I ****ing HATE the screen fingerprint reader on my OnePlus 6T.
I've redone my fingerprints so many times and it still works only occasionally. Sometimes it will take 5-6 tries or as many as the phone just requiring you to put in the pin code. If your finger is too dry or too oily; the outside temp too hot or too cold; the barometric pressure just slightly off, it just won't ****ing work. In comparison, my wife's S9 with its reader on the back of the phone is instantaneous every goddamn time. The whole placement under the screen was, and still is, so gimmicky and unnecessary. The old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" certainly applies to this trend. |

I'll just be glad to have another fingerprint sensor at all. ****ing facial recognition was a disaster.

I see a theme with the fingerprint sensor in most of the reviews. Couple mentions of lens flare issue with the camera under certain circumstances. FYI I'm only checking 6 reviews.
