13 wrx misfire issue...strange fix
So in my 13 for the past month or so I have had a rough idle/misfire like issue. The weird thing about it was that it didn't happen all the time. It stopped doing it for awhile until this past Saturday when the engine light came on for a P0300. I cleared the code since the dealer was closed and drove. I ran the tank down low thinking it may have been a bad mix of gas. I filled up yesterday and the car felt fine. Consisten WOT pulls and everything. Until today..I get out of class, start my car and it is idling crappy as hell. Then as I'm pulling out, the engine light comes on. I thought perfect. So I went to the Subie dealership and let them check it out for the second time for this issue.
Tech scanned it and the miss was jumping between all 4 cylinders!! Weird huh? So he comes out and talks to me for a bit. He mentions that there is a ground wire that splits into 4 separate wires and there has been issues of the connection coming loose. I thought, well, an electrical issue would make sense since it doesn't do it all the time. He peeled back the wrapping and dropped some solder on the connection and what do you know...The miss is gone and it is smooth as hell. Just wanted to share this with anyone who may have the same odd miss issue with their 08+ WRX or STi.

Hey man....I've had the same thing happen to me recently! Where is the grounding wire? I guess I can have the tech take a look. Thanks for the report.

This literaly just happened to me. Sounded a little strange after getting 93 Octane from chevron, then engine started shaking and had a rough idle, then the lights came on. The code reader did say P0300... Any updates on this? Gonna be a PITA taking the DP off and taking to the dealer so seeing if there is any insight on this matter...

I've had the same thing in my '13 WRX although my code was P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire. My dealership told me I needed a new engine harness and now it makes sense. This must be a widespread issue because it took them a month to get the part!

Same issue, same fix as documented in the 11+ discussion thread. Didn't last for me.

FYI they replaced my intake manifold gasket while they were doing it. Is that normal?

This is ridiculous. These cars have too many issues compared to the GD cars.

99pgpgt,
Now that it's been a couple weeks, is the multiple-cylinder misfire issue still gone for good? |

I had this exact same issue a few months ago. I couldn't figure it out and tried reflashing my tune which seems to have worked so far. If it starts to happen again I'll get right on this. Thanks for the info.

Gonna bump this once in awhile so people can still find it semi easily if anyone else has this problem.

Just got this issue yesterday Luckily I'm still under warranty but I've had far too many small issues for a 2013 car with 23000 miles on it. Seems like P0300 can mean a lot of things.

Borrowed someone elses car for 3 days since I didn't want to push mine with the misfire. Dealer had the car for one day and they couldn't nail down the problem.
They hooked it up for diagnostics, went for a drive, more diagnostics. Said the misfire was random and they weren't sure why. They reset the computer and cleared the code. Did 60 miles after picking it up and it's running fine. Just wanted to get this out there in case someone else had a similar issue or if I should be running to a different mechanic in case my engine is a time bomb now (doubt this part). |

Im having similar issues
I have a 2014 wrx base model. The cylinder misfire code popped up on my dash at around 8k miles, and 2 dealership visits later, the engine wiring harness was replaced. This fix held up for a while, but just a few days ago, at 17k miles, the code returned. I have an appointment tomorrow to check it again. Has anyone had their problem return like this? When my car has this code , the car shifts hard unless i feather it. It is very annoying.

Mine hasn't returned since the dealership fixed it, and that has been about a year and a half ago. Keep us posted on what happens.

I think I might be having this issue on my 2014 wrx. I did some datalogging and have cylinder roughness bouncing around all 4 cylinders. I want to take it to the dealership but don't feel like taking off my cobb sf intake lol. Thanks for the post makes me feel better, thought something worse was going on.

The proper fix is to replace the harness. The new harnesses are available. I did this in 2011 to a wrx and it hasn't been back yet. He still comes in for his oil changes.

Yes it's stronger. I call it the wiring harness mod! Lol. Who knows. Originally we repaired them and then they said just replace the harness with a new one but there wasn't anything different Subaru I assume got with the company who made the harnesses and now they have an updated part. Who knows if it's a good thing or bad thing.

Is there a part number for the harness? Is this plug and play or do I need to take it to my shop or a dealer to handle?
This is driving me bonkers. Probably happens to me once a week. Car is running absolutely fine but this damn code gets thrown. Probably the most annoying thing about it is that I can't use cruise control and the dash looks like a damn christmas tree. The fix is to literally peel back the wire cover, and solder the connection
